Name Change

Post by Diarmhid Liioness »

Due to recent events (Devrah Windslasher's marriage breaking up) I wonder if her name could be changed on the server back to "Devrah Liioness"? I don't know if this is possible or not, I am wondering if it is, or if I will have to recreate AGAIN? :(

Back in my days "character_requests@illarion.org" was the place to go for these kind of things.

Guess sending your request there wont hurt.

She already has a "Devrah Liioness" forum account. She was actually using that one first.

There's a first time for everything.

Back in those days, people usually didn't have last names embedded into their server character names either, so I guess marital name change requests were extremely rare and it figured that email addy was just for display purposes.

Since "back in my days" these emails landed on my desk I can safely say that they got read.

Marriages still arn't that common amog our chars, and we had some even back then.
This was by the way the reason for a name change that usualy never got rejected.

But we also had some strange requests, like different avatars for your character, even total racial changes (human > lizard) to the common question for beefed up stats.

wow.

couldn't this whole thing be easily fixed by that !suffix command thing? then you could change your name easily without needing a gm's help.

The character's second name is literally a name in the database. Using !suffix would only lead to further confusion as the character would be named Devrah Windslasher Liioness.

I thought if you used it twice, it would erase the first second name.

like this:

Devrah

!suffix windslasher

Devrah windslasher

!suffix Liioness

Devrah Liioness

No! Devrah Windslasher was the name of the character as recognised by the database. No matter what she added with !suffix, the login name would not change. As far as the database was concerned, the character name was Devrah Windslasher and nothing short of changing it in the database could change that.

I mean make you name devrah and that's it, to avoid future confusion. instead of changinf it to devrah lioness, just make it devrah. that way she can marry as many men as she wants by just using !suffix. and then reccomend to noobs that they don't make a last name, just use !suffix

Although I've seen cases of people using !suffix for their last name, and it rarely gets punished, using !suffix in such a way is an abuse of the command.

Last name is not a title, !prefix and !suffix are for "Sir James the Knight".

The !suffix command is used to place titles, and not last names. Afterall, there is a part of the account system where you submit your name to GM approval.

but it would make this entire problem so much easier. I'm sure Devrah won't make her last name a cuss word or anything inapropriate (sp). less work for you, more fun for us, everybody wins!

My question has already been asnwered a long time ago, and Aegohl has resolved the !suffix argument, too. Since the topic seems finished to me, perhaps it should be locked now? Thanks.

It's actually easier for me to change your name than it is for you to name your character in the first. I don't consider this work.

Besides, while I might not make my last name a swear, who's to say no one will? I mean, we did have an orc that pulled a Brokeback Mountain on Dravish, remember?
