Warhammers and maces were made almost specifically to punch through armor.

Notice the large spike.

Notice how the flanges come to a pickaxe like point. These were the anti-armor weapons of the time, just use google.

I am confused
We are speaking about different things here. I know a mace as being a large ball attached to a chain which you swing around; not a derivative of a club.
Edit > That isn't really a warhammer, that is a derivative of a halberd; it was meant to knock knights off horses, and the spike used to stab them through small holes in the platemail

Flail > Thingy used to toss grain [what?]
Mace> I think that mace is a range of weapons, so we ARE speaking about the same thing. A club is a mace, as is a morning star ect... [Hope i'm right here]
Warhammer > Lots of different opinions, but i am referring to the kind which is used to break people's bones who are footsoldiers ((anyone ever played golden axe?)), a warhammer with a spike on an end is basically a stabbing weapon. The hammer itself isn't really used, because you dont have the time to get the momentum; the only reason the hammer was there was to knock the knight down and pacify him for a few seconds while you finish him off.

Maces came in a variety of shapes and sizes. Either single or double handed with a solid ball, spiked ball, flanged or similar head attached directly to the handle. Used for pounding your opponent and his armour to scrap. Spikes, sharp flanges, etc, were there to inflict more damage to man and armour or to mince up unarmoured/lightly armoured foes.
Flails were similar but had a jointed head. Harder to use, but generally inflicted more damage.
The morningstar was a variant of the flail using a longer chain joint. This meant it could be used to wrap around weapons/limbs to disarm or disable. It also did greater damage due to the momentum built up by swinging or spinning. Some, most notably the 'holy water sprinkler', had 2 or 3 individually jointed heads.
Warhammers again came in a wide variety. Single and double handed. Most had a hammer head backed by a spike or 'pick'. The hammer was used to batter an opponent to the ground. You then reversed the hammer and used the pick to punch through the armour.
Heavy plate armours made these weapons popular. Most swords, axes and spears were of little use against a fully armoured knight. However, knock them to the ground and they often couldnt get up again. So a heavy, blunt weapon was the preferred means of dealing with them. Once down you could stab them virtually at will. They weren't going very far. Infact a great many knights died because they simply couldnt get back up. Trampled, suffocated, drowned. Heavy armour is not always a good thing.

Peoples you forget something. We don't should speak of the way of damage the weapon mades, more of the way to use it. for me concussion means to swing something heavy against someone. like a warhammer, or whatever. slashing means to use something sharp. not just two swing, but also to cut. you handle a warhammer or morning star completly different than a sword or an axe. because of its hsape, not of the damage it does. even when a morning star has spikes, it get swing the same way like a morningstar without spikes and just a round metalobject.
Slashing means to use something with whom you have to cut and slash.
concussion means to swing something heavy and bulk against others to cause the damage more through the heavy object, not through the shape of the weapon.

This is of course referring to their use in real life not silly video games where you can weild metal objects that weight 30 times more than your character.

Just look at the pictures of the items IG. We shoulding be talking about stuff from other games or real life weapons as they arent what were using in this game.
____________________________________________________________
Club= Wooden stick used to bash(concussion)
Mace=Metal ball with spikes on a wooden stick.(Concussion&Piercing)
Morning Star=Metal ball iwth spikes connected to a chain which is connected to a stick(Concussion&Piercing)
War Hammer=Metal Brick on a wooden pole(concussion)
____________________________________________________________
Something blunt is going to do Concussion damage.
A spike(like on maces and morning stars) is going to do piercing damage

All of the weapons IG are based off of a real life counterpart, not to mention some of these graphics just might change on you.Talaena Landessi wrote:Just look at the pictures of the items IG. *shrug* Go off what you have. Its a game. THe grafics show you what you have and what it is along with the little words that float around it when you click on it. when i see a metal ball with spikes on a stick, im expecting it to work like that or else i wouldnt use it. If i wanted a war hammer that stabbed people off the non existant horses i would get one with that image, which we dont have. Soooooo I use a war hammer that just bashes the hell outta people. And if the graffics change i will stop using the weapons if its apearance and use isnt that same as before.

To get back to the original point of the topic.
What sort of damage the weapons do is irrelevant to the skill required to use them.
IG the mace and morninstar should increase your concussion skill because that is how they are used. You bash with them therefore increase your concussion skill. Thumping people with a blunt weapon will not make you a better fencer.
