Dodge
Perhaps I can ask a word from staff here, regarding the skill dodge. It seems to me that it makes a difference in melee combat if you have it how ever to train it seems difficult in way that makes sense.
It seems to raise if you fight flys with no armor on, then it doesnt raise very high at all. Then apparently it rises higher if you dont fight back against flys.
The other way i found on old sever was to have an archer fire arrows are your character.
Seems it is a very hard skill to train in a way that is not power gameing, as i tend to view the term PGING acting a way that your character would not purely for skill gain.
Now we have a skill cap, so why not make it fighting in no armor raises dodge and fighting armor raises parry ?
I think it should have an affect in any armor when in combat as i think dodge is an important skill for melee fighters.
Perhaps there is a realistic way to train it i am missing ?
I am curiouse as it would nice to have a character more skilled in dodge than parry and I have heard and seen that a high dodge skill will allow one to compete with heavy weapon users, useing light weapons.
This again would be great for some of my characters....
At base lets have a way to train it that makes sense eg: fighting with no armor or when useing a bow.
Or lets do away with a skill that is trained in questionable ways any way.
Over to you our beloved devs....how is dodge meant to be learnt?

Parry and dodge are two seperate fighting skills.
There is no way to train dodge that isn't powergaming at the moment. I agree with Pendar that powergaming is really just training out of character. training out of character is fighting flies without armour to learn dodge, as no person in their right mind would let flies bite at them just to get a bit quicker.
Pendar wants to know if there is a legitimate way to train Dodge, and I would like to know as well as I would like Stephen to learn this skill, but I don't want to learn it in an abusive way; it just sacrifices my character's intrigrity and is not worth it.

It is possible to gain skill in dodge with heavy armor on. I have done it, its just very very slow. I agree, training with ooc methods is simply powergaming, because they have no rp reason to do it. Carrying out an action repeatedly (that does not fit your role) and for an extended time to raise your skill, is called Power gaming, and is forbidden. Gathering thousands of thread for a character who labels himself a thread supplier over months realtime, and really accidentally gaining it isn't. I don't see how any heavy armor wearing warrior would find it IC to be very good at dogde. I say, make it so heavy armor reduces your chance to dodge per item. Heavy legs aren't available yet, but they would easily be the most movement inhibiting.

ive also heard that you cant raise parry and dodge easily at the saem time? that if you raise dodge to a certain point that your parry doesnt get any higher or is just much harder to get higher.
if dodge is a good way to avoid people with axes and hammers and such i think it would be good for people who rely more on speed and light armour for fighting. say a person in chainmail only with a rapier? or leather and other small weapons. sort of leveling out the playing field?

I would think it was essentially for archers since, to my knowlage, bows and arrows have no defensive capability. At least with throwing stars or spears you could use a shield. Maximum blue color of a skill is 250.Talaena Landessi wrote:ive also heard that you cant raise parry and dodge easily at the saem time? that if you raise dodge to a certain point that your parry doesnt get any higher or is just much harder to get higher.

Yet still no information on how it was designed to be trained. People will PG it anyway I do not understand the need for secrets from players. This allows some of us OOC to take full advantage. Basically if i go crawl through my msn list and ask around i will find a few methods.
Seems to me to be a little like a clique that we wont make information like this public.
Also seems equally silly to walk around in game asking people how i would train dodgeing. I suppose I could get an archer to fire arrows at me with out points. Thats solid......

To be more clear as some one pointed out i wasnt, by keeping the basics of how a skill is trained like dodge. We create a clique of people able to make use of it. We also encourage questionable power gameing to get the skill. Perhaps if it is that obscurely difficult to train we need to look at ways to make it more "plausable"?Seems to me to be a little like a clique that we wont make information like this public
