A lizards Path

Post by Sylathen »

Sylathen walks out the left gate of Trollsbane kicking the pebbels along on the ground. looking up at the Sky he watches the clouds roll by. As he starts to walk forward again he looks to his left and sees a cave. Remembering something his eyes get a hint of worry.

Why...Why must i fail so many. I am not so weak, I plan to be a Knight.

I failed the spirit..that Aldriaa, i still have not found Guider.

Sylathen Slams his axe into the ground and sits in the grass staring at the cave

Looks at his left arm and looks at the cave again
I tryed Aldriaa..i did, i took on monsters i couldnt win against and got hurt plenty. But all is in vain, I have protected Arynne, but i still haven't fullfilled my other promise..

Stands up and turns back towards town. He grabs his axe out of the dirt and runs for town

Clashes can be heard, steel on steel. Sylathen is kneeling on the ground looking up at his captian, unable to move.
"Sylathen" his captian says,"You will Duel Grutar, and i must teach you things before you do so."
Stephen tells his Page about Grutars life, ambitions, and even past ambitions, so that his page can respect him, and also learn how to kill him.
after a few moments Sylathen stands, swaying a bit, ready to duel his captian again. They side step eachother, slashing, smiling, and dodging the other blow, allthough sylathen was not as good as his captian, he still tryied, with all he could, to learn the fighting style in which his captian was trying to teach him. He again kneels to the ground, immobilized, and his captian resumes his story of Grutar.
A few moments later Sylathen stands up for one last duel, severly staggering, but all in all, standing on his own demeanour. They clash swords again, moving their feet to counter the others movement, it is a Sight to see, they dance swinging the the swords in circles hitting swords, slashing at eachother, it is a Harmonous scene. But once again Sylathen falls to his knees, but not long after this, Stephen smiles looking at his page.
"You are ready, You will fight Grutar, you have been in it longer than me or Pendar, You are the one Aldriaa's ghost picked. you have the right Sylathen, prepare for your duel will come. Now use what you have learned in my preperations and go, to try them, and be sure to master them. I know this is a heavy task, Even for a Knight this would be a huge undertaking, and Monsterous for a Page"
Sylathen merely smiles and looks up at his captian, "i would not like it any other way sir."

It is now said that sylathen can be seen, In his armor and Black cloak, looking at the cave entrance, not speaking, nor moving, just looking. As though he is preparing himself, for that in which he does not want to do.

Sylathen, with his flank of fellow Knights, walk towards the arena, meeting Grutar along the way, they move to the arena.
Sylathen, while warming up in the fighters room, hears claps and cheers.

As Sylathen steps out of the room Grutar charges him, just as Stephen said he would. Dodging and throwing grutar off balance, he hits him dead in the side under his arm with a fire axe. He then starts to parry and attack in ration in a defensive pose. Striking hard, Random, and few, kept grutar guessing, allowing Sylathen the upperhand. Finnaly Grutar falls to his Knees. Sylathen deals the final blow, Nearly, but not throughly decapitating grutar.

Sylathen and His fellow Knights now pick up Grutars body, carry him to the river in silence. At first only the Knights of Kallahorn were present to dig his grave. But then one other showed up, Culandria. Giving Grutar blessings in different tounges and gods, the left him. To be, at that mouth of the river. To be what he came to be, Not an Orc.

Sylathen walks over to Aldriaas Mine, and Stands, Looking then smiles and gives a loud Shout, he nods, feeling the ground and leaves a small token, his thank you, in no material form, but it is left in his own matter, a claw print in the dirt.

Sylathen smiles and mutters to himself. "a squire.."

((so Ends this part of Aldriaa's quest. it is not over for me..for we still have Guider and Cassandra to find..but you get the point))

A spectral light lingers in the back of the mine, and a resonating whisper, like a mere wind in the leaves, traverses the land

"Thank you, Sylathen"

On a rock, next to where the ghost is usually sighted, a single tick mark appears in blood.

As they buried Grutar in silence Stephen couldn't help but feel he had somehow failed Grutar. Of course he had wanted Sylathen to win, but Grutar was not evil. Grutar had confided in Stephen, telling him everything about himself and what he did and why he felt he had too. Stephen had told Grutar he could help him. He had helped Grutar get back his honor, but the price was Grutar's life. Stephen was sure Grutar didn't think Stephen ment for him to die.
Perhaps it was because Stephen and Grutar shared similar pasts that cause Stephen to care so much abour Grutar. They had both been outcasts, and maybe if Stephen hadn't met Thaseus Gaedose that fateful day they founded the Knighthood, maybe Stephen would have gone down the path of Grutar.

Sylathen sits at the lighthouse in which he had onced lived with Stephen and Nialandria. But this time it was different. His mentor gone, not before giving Sylathen a huge undertaking. He sits against the ruins. He does not wear his normal armour, nor does he have his exquisite sword, The Sword of Paladins. For these he gave to his Neice, Emily. But he wore one thing other than his cloths. A Ruby ring, that Stephen had given him as a Present for dueling grutar with pride.

As he leans against the ruined Lighthouse, he watches the clouds roll by and the sunset emerge. He watches Slzar fly above him. From his demeanour, it would seem he was as calm as can be, but this was infact, the oppisite of how he was feeling.

His mind is filled with questions, thoughts, and worries of His brothers and Sisters. He knew what he must do, but not the way in which he would do it. He looked at the way Stephen lead them, how he had mentored Sylathen and the Knights, the way he held his emotions, and the way he treated all of those around him.

Sylathen did not realise why Stephen had entrusted him to lead the Knights at first. Threw his days at the lighthouse, not sleeping nor eating. He knew finnaly why it must be him. He smiled as the Sunset had almost reached it's end.

"It is not why you handed me this task my father, it is why you did not hand it to anyone else.." says Sylathen.

Sylathen stands up and looks at The Knights of Kallahorns camp and smiles.

"Lets get started" he says
