ZIP-Drive - must illarion start from c:?

Post by Zoraroth »

I have more than one Computer (har, har :)) and so i thought about, whether it is possible to install illarion on ZIP or not. I copied my Illarion-Folder to ZIP, i could start the Module, but the screen became black, the display-resolution changed - but no Illarion appearded!
I am no computer-expert, so i have not a glimpse of suspicion what the reason might be.
Can anyone help me?
BTW: in the university, they have computers with ZIP, but there i get a direct-draw error...
Thanx in advance...

You should be able to load and save from a zip disk, as I did when I first started the game.
The only thing was, that after each session, it asked me if I wanted to save the changes that had been made. As long as I sait yes, all was fine. Just make sure that you have direct X 7 or higher on whichever system you are using.

Load? Save? I never loaded or saved anything in Illarion. I start the module, log in as Zoraroth, and here i go! If I leave Illarion I press escape and when I come back I automatically find myself exactly there where i left. I never was asked to load or to save changes. Or are there hidden Options for saving or loading? But the game doesn't really begin, if started from ZIP.
So my problem remains a mystery.
It works, if started from C:\ but not from E:\
Are there any Data outside the Illarion directory (any win-Temp's or places like that)?
If i copy (and not install) Illarion from one Drive to the other, is that the Point?
Well, the fault in the university is quite shure the lack of any DirectX installation, and i really do not wonder why they didn't have it ;)
Alas, so I have to play from home with my fantastic 56k Modem, and so I can visit Illarion only once the week and people meeting me will still wonder why I have so problems to follow them anywhere...
But even with a laggin' connection i can say: this game rocks! So please do not make it unplayable for modem-users!
If the Zip-Problem could be solved i could log in with my notebook at the university, and so I would have megabit-connexion!
*deep sigh*

Illarion doesn't care, from which directory it is started, if you keep the directory structure below the Illarion directory (i.e. C:\Illarion, d:\games\Illarion, e:\Illarion - all should be fine).
I don't know about ZIP drives and if they are fast enough. If this is something like a large diskette it might be too slow to show the graphics.

Yea, this might be the reason.
ZIP's on the Parallel Interface are not very quick (SCSI or USB should be better)
So it is my hardware problem
But right now, it works well with my modem, so it is only temporarily laggin.
Thanx to everybody
