No such skill cap here. Where did you get informations about a skill cap from?

Do you want to get rid of the skills? No problem, they are not in use. I can delete them with two mouse clicks.

I heard a rumour...

If you feel like... delete them... [languages> US]

What is that?a bug?

OK, since I feel like it, I will describe how all this learning cap-stuff works. I did this before, here is a summary:

Every action that could raise a skill adds some so called "MC-points".
If your char has alot of those MC-points, skill growth stops.
MC-points decrease constantly while you are ingame (fast) or not (slower).

I was more talking about the skill cap... ie -> total amount of experience you may have... example [1 blue skill and 5 black] <<<=== just an example, not based on fact...

Not the learning, "You cant concentrate on learning right now" thing...

PS: the skill US... what exactly was that?

As far as I am aware there is no upper limit to the number of skills you can have in total. You can, with time, max all your skills. The only limit is the learning cap which regulates how fast you can improve skills.

Do attributes play any part in how fast we can learn certain skills?

For instance, my character can spend hours learning in the library but only 5 minutes learning a fighting skill. Is this because he has a high intelligence and low physical attributes, or merly because of the skills he is learning?

There are different skill caps for different sorts of skills. Combat has one of the lowest cap points, of course, because it is more of a means of inbalance. (You can't pWnz3r someone with your library research, no matter how hard you read. =D)

So being skill capped with fighting skills means you can still read up in the library? Or reading in the library uses less MC points then fighting does in turn letting you read for a long time?

In fact, fighting creates less MC-points than reading or crafting. But it is one pool, you cannot craft an hour, fight an hour, craft an hour,... Of course you can, but your char won't learn more this way.

The reason why fighting seems to create many MC-points is that when you fight, you a) attack b) parry c) dodge. So, you do many actions in short time.

Ah. My bad. Thanks, Estralis.

However, once again, good thing: can't pwnz0r someone with library research, and believe me I've tried. =)

P.S. Being the forum grammarian, it is spelled encyclopedia. I love being an arse about it. :)

And just since you're both in a small correcting to-and-fro toss, I'll just add in that the sentence, Pendar, is:
Pendar wrote:Some one has never had the encyclopedia Brit dropped on there toe.
Correctification wrote:Someone has never had the encyclopedia Brit. dropped on their toe.
Which, technically, should actually be:
De'am's Grammar Check II wrote:Someone has never had the encyclopedia Brit. dropped on his or her toe.
Ah, the royal bitch, English Grammar  .

And this topic has some very interesting information about skills and skill development.

im a bit confused, i keep reading over your posts to see if i can understand but im confused about one this... is there one big skil cap? or sepereate skill caps for everything?

Neither. No skill cap in Illarion.

Just a learning cap. If you do too many actions in a given time, your char does not learn more than he'd do less actions. Just rest some time (online or offline, please RP in this resting time!).

When you hit the learning cap you will learn no more until you rest, (dont use any skills) for a short time. If you stay ingame the rest period is shorter than if you log out. So it is best to stay IG and rolplay a bit while your character is 'resting'. The longer you rest the more you will be able to learn after. A short rest will mean you will hit the learning cap again very quickly.

Think of your learning cap as a bucket of water. When fully rested the bucket is full. You use a skill and some water is moved to that skills pool. (so the skill improves). If you use skills a lot in a short space of time the bucket is soon empty. At this point you cannot learn anymore until you rest. When you stop using skills the bucket begins to fill up again, slowly. The longer you dont use skills the fuller the bucket gets and so the more you can learn.
