Equipment chart for each race

Post by Chak' Ysshirr »

I think it would be interesting if each race had its own equipment chart with differences between them. Like, lizards could equip a tail armour, elves could use earrings, and such.
What do you think? :)

What prevents Humans, Halfling and Dwarfs to use or wear rings ?

In other words, the races of Illarion are all humanoid, thier body shape isnt much different from each other, so how do you justify "special" slots, that other races do not have ?

I makes more sense to ask for racial equipment then for special inventory slots.

I have and still do like the racial armors idea, although it has been proposed before a few times I think. For lizards, I would say just make "lizard leggings" a unique leg armors that armors the tail as well. I think adding an extra slot to the character would be too time consuming. I do not think they could be plated though, since it seems illarionites will be stuck with leather.

Oh, sorry about the "ring". I wanted to write "earring". I edited now.
Well, that was just an idea.

As I said, just an idea.
The proposal intention was to give the idea of different chartsfor each race, not to tell which differences it would be. I used the tail armour and earring just as an example.
Different charts with different draws on the background, one for each race, and not only that... uh... man. So, for each different race draw, could be squares positioned in the special unique place for each race.

Now we are slowly getting into the part of making a propsal rather then throwing in two words and closeing the sentence with "Just an Idea.".

So you are proposing (now) that each race has another background representing thier race.

Now the next step you have to take is to give the pro's and the con's of your idea.

Pro:
  • It would give each race a little unique feeling for the player.
Con:
  • It might be confusing because you do not know where to put an item cause you lack an unified interface.
  • Somebody has to make the drawings. (You ?)
  • Is there a greater use other then a changed interface ? (Affort<->Effect - Relation)
Please, not directly to you Chak, work out your proposals more.
"Just an idea" doesnt cut it in the end.

Maybe we should make this a sticky? I mean the post of Darlok, presenting a sort of structure into proposing things.

I can make them, I don't really have anything to work on right now for Illa so, one down. Shoots the quote *ping* I think you mean the armors right Darlok?

I know, I know. I got it.
I already lost the feeling that it was a good idea, but I'll answer anyway. Never knows what can come out of this. :)

- I think every newbie experiences problems on where equip this or where equip that;
- I couldn't. But I have a friend that would be glad to help (and he draws very good);
- Well, the special squares for each races.

And though I hope my english is ok and that I understood everything you wrote, I still think that the changing of the background is a good idea.

Seems there are two volunteers for the drawing.

Now the questions remains:
Is its good to move the slot squares according to the pictures, or should it be done another way?
Here are more opinions need weather is better to have the item slots above the representing body part or have them in fixed positons and maybe draw lines to the corresponding parts of the avatar.

Another big problem you could face is, that nobody of us has any idea how the new client will look like, especialy the interface.
Shivoc would have to show up and give you a raw idea.

Special slots for each race are hard to explain.
Granted, a Tail-Slot is easy to come up with, but what are reasonable slots for other races.
They dont differ in thier general body shape, only in thier height and weight. People wouldnt find it fair that other races have body parts to use, that thier characters logicaly could use too.

So Grobul mentioned it already, its easier to explain when you just give them special items for thier races.
Lizard Legarmor with Tailextension or Halflingsized Leatherarmor for example.

Yeah, I got your point.
I think this end this topic.
BUT... I will talk with my friend about the drawing (I said we never knew whatcould come of this :) ).

All the graphics for Illarion are rendered or created in 2d, none are literally drawn on paper.

Yes, I know that.
I was talking about the picture of the man in the middle of the equipment chart to the right.
