The Illarion Language Guide - List of Words frequetly used i
Ich mag Khanors Idee einer Liste mit Illarionspezifischen Wörtern oder Phrasen auf Deutsch und Englisch. Das kann für Leute die die jeweilige Sprache nicht beherrschen wirklich hilfreich sein. Ich denke um einen Anfang zu machen wäre es ja schon mal fein wenn wir hier Vorschläge sammeln was alles in die Liste rein soll.
I like Khanors idea of a list with words or phrases in german and english that could be useful in Illarion. It could really help people who can't speak english or german. To make a start it would be good to collect ideas for this list here.
Etwa so: / Like this:
... hat mich umgebracht! - ... has killed me!
... ist ein PK/Powergamer/Cheater! - ... is a PK/powergamer/cheater!
Axt - axe
Schwert - sword
Monster - monster
Frieden - peace
angreifen - to attack
Lebt wohl! - Fare thee well!
Seid gegrüßt! - Greetings!
Warte! - Wait!
Gilde - guild
Ok, ich warte auf eure Idee. / Ok, I'm waiting for your ideas.

Out of character and real life? Hmm, are you saying I am confusing real life with out of character? Thank you, I did not realize that...

there are some minor mistakes in ishans translations:
Never mind | Vergiss es ("forget it")
fool/coward | Angsthase (somethg. like scarry rabbit
), Idiot (quite natural, same use as in english
).
@erdrick: you're quite good!
but there's a little mistake (i just found one):
it is "Danke schön" (ö=oe, so you could say "schoen").
"schoen" means "nice", but i wouldn't consider it more RPish, it's just polite, but for my feeling it doesn't fit into a fantasy world.
"Habt Dank" sounds much more RPish for me, and it means something like "be thanked".
"Ich danke euch" is "i thank you".
maybe we should start collecting those things together and provide it as downloadable pdf or something.

ouch, ok my englisch is not very well my German is much better (sometimes)
But I ever thougt never mind mean the same like forgett it! or don think longer over this -
Aber ich dachte immer Never Mind bedeutet das selbe wie Vergess es oder denk nicht weiter drüber nach.
But there are still a few words we must translate
hurr = ?
demon cave = Dämonen Höle
spider cave = Spinnen Höle
priest = Priester/in
Dont cast in Town = Zauber nicht in der Stadt
please dont kill me = bitte Töte mich nicht
peace/ freedom = frieden
angry = wütend
stupid = dumm
Beer = Bier
wine = Wein
mistake = fehler
i dont understand = verstehe ich nicht
merchant = Händler
silver star = Silber Stern
god/s = Gott/Götter
follower = Anhänger (nicht der für den Hals *g*)
necklace = Kette
diamond = Diamant
marriage = Hochzeit
appel = Apfel
cheerys = Kirschen
shadow = Schatten
sheep = Schaf
cheap = billig
expensiv = teuer
damn = verdammt
trash = Müll
swine = Schwein
(Rot)worm = (Faul)wurm
enjoy a chilled beer at the taveren = genies ein küles Bier in der Taverne
ham = Schinken
Leather = Leder
Oh, and by the way Ishans Schatten mean Ishan his shadow, or better "the Shadow of Ishan"
so my name is Ishan and not Ishans ( und schon gar nicht Ische oder Ishi = and not Ische or Ishi)
the pdf file is a good idea, or as an item like a book that you can read in game

vergessen,
ich vergesse, du vergisst, er/sie/es vergisst, wir vergessen, ihr vergesst, sie vergessen
vergiss!
darum gings mir. der imperativ von vergessen ist vergIss (mit i)!
ausserdem sind da ein paar weitere fehler in deiner (lobenswerten) uebersetzung, hab zu wenig zeit, die auszubessern.
(i just wanted to point out, that not everything ishan wrote is perfectly correct, so take care if you want to pass the next german-exam, there might be some errors
; however, i don't have enough time to correct everything)

Hey, theres an idea, a book-item for the game! We could start off with it, it can't be sold, and you can write more in it if you want. Martin, do you or Galadriel or Damien (Or Emhyr, boy theres a lot of GfX artists) have a book pic. that isn't intended for magic?
Shouldn't look too much like magic books either, that would be confusing.

@erdrick: i don't know if this is possible in near future...
translations:
greetings | Gruesse
how are you today? | Wie geht es dir heute?
where is the nearest shop? | Wo ist das naechste Geschaeft?
please dont cast in town | Bitte zaubere nicht in der Stadt.
cease or die | Hoer auf oder stirb!
good morning | Guten Morgen.
good afternoon | there's no german analogon for that which is used. "Guten Tag" maybe.
good evening | Guten Abend.
in general, i think it would be much more effective to learn words and a little bit grammar instead of whole phrases. on http://www.pons.de/ there's a nice translator for single words (on the bottom of the site you can enter it...).

Thanks to everyone who has supported this project so far. At the moment I'm working on a nifty little webpage with the translations sorted by category. If you think that there's something missing feel free to write it down here.

Aha! I remebered the thing I used to be obsessed with a long time ago:
OpferDolch = Victim Dagger
Opfer = Victim
Dolch = Dagger
Just thought I'd mention that (Don't know if any of you remember that word
)

nononoNO Erdrick
Victim = Opfer is true, but only in the sense of a murder-victim
a Opferdolch is a ceremonial dagger or also a sacrificial dagger
sacrifice = Opfer in the sense of religious ceremonies.

The Illarion Language Guide
however, erdricks "opferdolch"-idea wasn't that bad. that's because "opfer" means victim (as galdriel pointed out) in the sense of a murder or something like that (but also, *sometimes*, in the context of sacrifice), but "opfern" rather means sacrifice. therefore, you use a "opferdolch" to sacrifice someone or something for the gods.
german is sometimes a little bit strange when it comes to the meaning of special words and combinations. thats e.g. the case because in german you can put together nouns (Opfer+Dolch=Opferdolch, 1 word, not 2) and sometimes a new meaning emerges from that combination which doesn't have to be a simple combination of the two seperated words meanings. in most languages, two or more nouns can't be put together and therefore the corresponding word has to be described by several words.

Quite a few words are quite similar, I think I can trace just about all the english words to their similar words in other languages (English compares most to French, but also just about every other European language)
It's good to have a little section to find these small phrases, only problem is all us english people must change our computer's language to German so we can get all those fancy letters like the o with two dots and so on. In german, if you miss one of those special letters and use a normal letter, does it completely change the meaning of the word? Heh, that's why I cant learn second language easily, english is too simplified!

these fency little dots can be avoided by writing an e after the letter.
Ö=Oe
Ä=Ae
Ü=Ue
maybe you noticed, that i never use ä, ü and ö but always use ae, ue and oe instead (i got used to it in my early times in the internet when things were much more complicated and one had to assume that nobody's computer is able to display these letters correctly
). i think, people understand words even if you "forget" about the dots. it of course can happen that it means something else. (it's like a substitution of certain a's by e's in english, i think you'd understand what it's all about except for some special cases)
