A few suggestions - in point form

Post by Josphe »

1. A new chat system where you can talk to your friends when your not within shouting range.
2. An easier to understand Manual for the newbies (me) :D !
3. A life bar on the side of the character (when in BATTLE) to tell if the oppent is weak.
4. An easier to understand (Skills/Stats bar) so you can see you next levels etc...
5. Moveable view/perspective.
6. A site where no-one can player kill or attack anything. Also where all newbies begin.
7. A better PK system where you can't run away from the attack until he;s hit you 2 times. (This I don't like that much, but I'm throwing it in).

Please comment,
Joseph. :)

Some of those have been suggested in different forms...
Some of those may increase server lag (unneeded things...)
And for levels, the GM's (specifically Bror and co.) want meters instead.
Moveable View/Perpective: A LOT of work for Martin (each tile would need at least 4 other images, and then increase server lag w/ everyone's different perspective)
And for chat system: That's not realistic.

I like the idea of the manual, some things in there aren't needed, and the text is REAL small. Although it does already cover the basic needs of a newbie.
(More than half of the newbies don't even see it)

oh no another one,
basicly the only good thing was the moveable camera and manual, but as erdrick said about the other ones,  Everything else takes realism away and replaces it with fakeness and cornyness that helped drive me away from other games. not to mention LAG!

@1: Not implemented for reality reasons. If implemented would most likely be used totaly OOC.
@2: Any suggestions? Which parts are too hard to understand, which parts are not needed? Are you talking about the HTML or the PDF version?
@3: Maybe something like this will be added, but it will increase lag.
@4: You don't know such things in RL either.
@5: Would quadruple the work for the graphic artists and quadruple the download (also it will slow down the client)
@6: From my experiences places like this would be used to spam, cuss, insult and steal without taking the risk of beeing punished quickly.
@7: What means "running away from the attack"? Obviously persons like mages have no chance in a close combat situation. If they move away two meters from the foe to cast a spell - is this running away? It will be prohibited to log out in a fight in one of the next versions.

Erdrick did mention lag before....

The "private message" has been suggested alot before, and Bror has not accepted that idea because he knows that it will just be used for OOC chats with friends.  It will also be used to organize mass battles and have some people with an extreme and unfair advantage.

I dont think it is realistic to have some people who can see certain places and those who cant just because they have it set to a different perspective.  Some perspectives may turn out to be more effective in combat, etc.

I guess it would be realistic to see how badly an opponent is wounded, but it would just be a rough guess, in real life you would not see "bob has 24 hit points remaining", that is why they used coloured bars to show health and mana.  In Tibia this is a problem, they use hitpoints for your character, but others are only a rough guess.  If this is introduced sometime, there should be a new skill that allows you to deceive others, like to fake being hurt badly.  Perhaps a small bar that comes under the coloured bar in white or something....

Well...
At the nr. 3 about the lifebar, instead of that there could be a text over the char you have targeted like "he seems healthy", "he is hurt" or "he is dying"..
And it would ofcourse would change to better or worse, regarding do you take more hit or a potion.

I was thinking that if someone is under attack, and is not paying attention to their health bar (dont laugh, it happens), it can become quite hard to notice your health going down until it is too late.  I thought that if one is being attacked, then why not have the screen flash a sort of red color? (not bright, just a light shade)  So this way, it is impossible to not know of an attacker (except if you leave your comp, but then that person deserves it ;) ).  Or just have something more in the normal area of view that flashes red, like perhaps to enlarge the little X's that appear, because it is also quite hard to see those when you are doing something like typing.  Or maybe make the X's outlined in bright green to make sure that they are visible.

I dont know, just a little suggestion, if you really dont think it is hard to overlook, then dont change it.

I guess this was a pretty good result. I wasn't looking for a 100% sucess rate in votes, at least 1% is better than nothing.

Thanks for the contribution, and may this game live forever (or run forever)!
