A Large Silver Plaque Hung on the Wall

Post by Domitrio »

A large silver plaque sits here hung on the wall. Wellmade, almost elven looking commontongue script is carved into the metal. Under the plaque hangs a roll of fine parchment, blank and inviting. To the side, off a nail, hangs a quill and bottle of ink, both on strings.

Most wonderful and gracious citizens of Troll's Bane, I, Domitrio, Wish to be the third member of the Triumvirate proposed by a great man, and future leader, John Irenicus. First I would like to say how proud and delighted I am to once again be amongst you all. I have recently been meditating in the monastary, but feel it necessary to help Troll's Bane by being a leader with a collective mind, rational thought, and silk tongue. I am a friend of the Bloodskulls, our islands most fierce warriors, Greenbriare, the home of peaceful halflings, and am known to many members of the town of Silverbrand. I ask for all of you to come together and help elect me to the third seat of the Triumvirate.
As many of you know, I am young, 21 by human years. My elven blood, given to me only by my mother, will allow me to live much longer than the normal human. It also allows me the use of magic, which I have studied greatly, under great mages and warlocks, and through which I have gained great wisdom, and found wonderous personal gain.
I am not new to politics, or debate. My father was a Merchant Trader on a Trade Ship. I learned to buy sell and trade to make end's meat, and wish to use what I know to help Troll's Bane's slumping economy. Many things other than this must be handled. Such as the usage of lands around us for cultivation, and farming. We don't want another shortage of food or resources do we? But also, forrest conservation weighs heavily on my heart. I have made my way as a carpenter somewhat, and know that a lack of wood would affect me as much as anyone. We must be smart in our handlings of resources as well as our diplomatic relationships with the neighboring towns.
I have a knowledge of ships and sailing, as stated before, and lived on a large ship most of my life. I would love to one day explore past our shores and discover new, exciting things to help boost the economy and luxery status of our town. Troll's Bane could be a trade CAPITAL in the future. The potenial to bring in new goods, people, and business is great, but untapped. We must not let this happen. With a Guard, John Irenicus, a great knight of the Grey Rose, Earl Lennier, and a Jack-of-all-trades as myself, Troll's Bane could prosper quickly and easily.
Many things in the mean time need to be dealt with before great progress can be achieved. Such as crime, and the building tension between ourselves and the natural, and unnatural beings around us. This is something that weighs heavily on my heart, and should be a very important factor in the election.
I want nothing but the best for Troll's Bane, as you can ask anyone who knows me. There are many things though, I'm sure, you would like to ask me. That is very easily done, just write upon the parchment under this plaque. I will check it often, and reply as best I can. I also answer doves, and find it great to meet around a campfire to talk. If there is anything you with to know, please feel free to ask. I'm sure I could be a great asset to this Triumvirate, and a blessing from Elara herself to the Town, as I've always sought to be. Please allow me to cater to you in any way you ask, as I had said before. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I wish all of you the blessings of all the gods you choose, and from Elara herself, may your path be straight, and your load light.

I paused my reading in the beginning.
Trained by warlocks.

A good thing to tell us Domitrio.

Domitrio passes by his plaque, and upon seeing Kasume's handwriting says with a chuckle "I should have known."

Kasume,
It's great to hear from you Kasume, I am glad to see you are well. You were missed on your recent trip, Arcia sends his regards, I'm sure.
You say "warlock" as if it means "necromancer", which is sorely wrong. A "warlock" is a user of the arcane arts who relies not only on his magic, but is also a good swordsman, axewielder, bludgeon fighter and such. Many of the mages in Troll's Bane are warlocks Kasume, you yourself are if I remember correctly. That is, if you did finally unlock the powers of the Rune of Transportation. As I said, many in town, including the Priest Galim, a good friend of mine, Nilo of the Farmer's Union, Athian, who helped me in many ways in my quest, and I believe even Kaja the Shaman of the Bloodskulls. Of course few call themselves warlocks, even I shy from the term, but it is a loose term that can be used this way. It does not in any way mean "Follower of Moshran" or "Denizen of Evil". I am glad, though, that you would bring this to the attention of the people. I have learned much over my time of meditation, and studied many books of ancient lore. Elara has blessed me with a great amount of knowledge, as she does all her priests. I'm sure there is much you could learn, Kasume my friend. Care to meet and discuss things soon? There is much I want to catch up on. Also, if there are any more questions about my past, or my opinions on recent happening, or the future, feel free to do just as Kasume did. Fear not for insulting me, I know the populous has all but forgotten about me, and I feel Elara wouldn't mind me refreshing the memories, or enlarging the knowledge of the people. It would bring her the honor and glory she deserves.

Thank you once again,
~Domitrio~

You were not trained by warlocks.
No warlock to my knowledge still walks on this island.

Would you rather I use the Term "swordfighting mage"? If so I will gladly change it. Also Kasume is this relevant? I explained what I meant as Warlock, and I named names also, what else am I to do? I was taken in on the Arts by Nilo himself, helped by Alora, a great swordswoman and guard, and a great holder of knowledge. Also Athian, SELF PROCLAIMED WARLOCK, helped me much, in the skills of concentration, meditation, and raising my pain threashold. Does that suffice Kasume?

A warlock.

A warlock trains himself in the art of black magic. A conjurerer. One that lets himself corrupt.

To my knowledge, few walk that are known. I surely hope you mis - understood the meaning, of Warlock.

There are many quirks in the common tongue, many words that mean different things to different people. Though if this is supposed to be an attack on my character, saying that I was trained by the forces of evil I am SURE that I can get character witnesses to tell you that this is not the case. That would be helpful actually, if any read this, to tell Kasume, personally, that I am not an evil corrupt conjurer. This word was used by my trainers, I feel free to use it in the way it was defined to me, use it the way you want. BUT this means little to the topic I wished to discuss. This parchment was meant for getting to know the candidate, me. Kasume, do you have a constructive question you would like to ask, or do you just wish to waste paper, that is sorely scarce since the trees have begun growing strangely? People, please let us get this back on topic, is there anything you would like to know?

Neon walks toward the black board and starts reading the newly added papers. As he ran over Domitrios and Kasumes discussion, he started to smile, looked down to his sword, then to his staff, murmuring some words ...

I know a warlock. Yes, I do.

Still grinning he continues reading other papers.
