Spell Improvements - making better use of some spells

There are many spells in the game but half of them seem to be rather useless in practical situations and one has hit the trash can for me lately, so here are few suggestions to make a few rarely used spells a bit more useful:
-For explosive looking spells like ra pen or ra luk, they could affect more than 1 tile of where it was cast. For example when the spell is cast on a certain tile, the spell hits that tile and all surrounding tiles 1 tile away as well. Or perhaps only 1 tile in each of the 4 compass directions. These spells could then be used by a mage while fighting multiple monsters if used strategically. Then they also wouldn't be able to cast such explosive spells right in front of themselves or else they would hit themselves too which makes it a little more realistic.
Spell casted on O: [ ][ ][ ][ ] Spell hits X spots: [ ][ ][X][ ]
[ ][ ][O][ ] [ ][X][X][X]
[ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][X][ ]
-For cun jus the water soaks your clothing and weighs you down so it could have an additional effect of a small chance to lower the target's agility temporarily, but the effect does not layer if cast again.
-For tah sav the vines can tangle up the person so it could have an additional effect of a small chance to lower the target's dexterity temporarily, but the effect does not layer if cast again.
-Maybe something similar could be done with strength, but since it affects carrying capacity there might be some problems.
-Then of course there's elemental alignment, but I'm sure somebody must've thought of that already and there must be a good reason why it isn't implemented yet.
