Spell Improvements - making better use of some spells

Post by Dyluck »

There are many spells in the game but half of them seem to be rather useless in practical situations and one has hit the trash can for me lately, so here are few suggestions to make a few rarely used spells a bit more useful:

-For explosive looking spells like ra pen or ra luk, they could affect more than 1 tile of where it was cast. For example when the spell is cast on a certain tile, the spell hits that tile and all surrounding tiles 1 tile away as well. Or perhaps only 1 tile in each of the 4 compass directions. These spells could then be used by a mage while fighting multiple monsters if used strategically. Then they also wouldn't be able to cast such explosive spells right in front of themselves or else they would hit themselves too which makes it a little more realistic.

Spell casted on O:     [  ][  ][  ][  ]        Spell hits X spots:        [  ][  ][X][  ]
                              [  ][  ][O][  ]                                        [  ][X][X][X]
                              [  ][  ][  ][  ]                                        [  ][  ][X][  ]

-For cun jus the water soaks your clothing and weighs you down so it could have an additional effect of a small chance to lower the target's agility temporarily, but the effect does not layer if cast again.

-For tah sav the vines can tangle up the person so it could have an additional effect of a small chance to lower the target's dexterity temporarily, but the effect does not layer if cast again.

-Maybe something similar could be done with strength, but since it affects carrying capacity there might be some problems.

-Then of course there's elemental alignment, but I'm sure somebody must've thought of that already and there must be a good reason why it isn't implemented yet.

Doesn't Ra Kel Qwan do that already?  I remember that it did...

lately, when i cast a ra kel qwan if sometimes makes a fire as well. Now since it seemed to just start happening(i'd never seen until about a week ago) was it just put into the game now or does your skill have to be good enough with the runes to do it?

About the ra-kel-qwan: I e-mailed the gods and they told me that my spell was so hot )or someting like that) it made the earth light on fire (on that tile).  I think that the ideas Dyluck suggested are good and fire maybe ra-pen will burn the person's trousers or cloak.  (it may be a dumb idea but I thought I should suggest it).

I don't think we need to discuss whether those fires require a high skill with the runes or not. Knowing if it does will only cause people to powergame.

MAKE SOME OF THE OTHER SPELLS USEFUL TOO!

Ra sij is now USELESS because of ra kel qwan, for ra kel qwan takes less mana and has the additional spell's damage.

Yes I was hinting that on my first post, but I didn't want to give away the new effect of ra kel qwan so people could discover it themselves, but you people come and......   #me grumbles ;)

Well then again ra sij isn't that useless yet since you still have a better chance at creating a fire with it than ra kel qwan. Plus its slightly quicker since you only click 2 runes. Hopefully a few tweaks of the other spell will be fixed soon so that it doesn't eliminate the need for some of the other ones.
