Direct addressing in #me moves
Example:
A. #me gives John a cold look. A bit of sadness is present in it.
B. #me gives you a cold look. You notice a bit of sadness in it.
Do you think that B is undesirable? Especially when there is a croud of characters, and everyone reads the move. So it looks like the player applies his look to everyone personally.
I am brining it up because I have seen this among some newer players.
Not a criticism, just something to point out. Because sometimes it confused me, who is doing what to whom.

I use the "you" sometimes to type faster, but that's only when two characters are alone.
Edit: And I just remembered I've also used it to give the situation of two people alone a touch of persuasion.
I actually do not prefer the name being used in the #me-action. And you know why? Because people start suddenly "noticing", "Oh, look, it's John"; because some people still have trouble sorting OOC and IC. After all, I didn't speak John's name - if he's wearing a knight's armor and a helmet covering his face, you can't recognize it's John because I write:
#me gives John a cold look. A bit of sadness is present in it.
The me-action only describes what the character I'm playing is doing, not who the character John is. Other people use this though for !nameing and other little tricks in the game.
So instead of A, I'd use C, actually:
A. #me gives John a cold look. A bit of sadness is present in it.
C. #me gives the man in front of himself a cold look. A bit of sadness is present in it.
I refer more to characters with expressions like "the man to his left", "the lady opposite of him at the table", "the boy by the riverside", etc., because it keeps anonymous characters anonymous. It takes more time to type, but it looks a bit more elegant than using names one million times, and as mentioned, it prevents from everybody having Perception18 all the time.

If we wanted to get really picky, it's forced RP as much as anything else. I had some halfling... I don't know her name, but she said
#me you notice the pretty young woman.
Well I didn't like this, first off Malvita doesn't really like halflings, and why would he be looking at her in the first place. So what am I to do now?
#me does NOT notice the halfling, and thinks the player behind her is a horrible Rp-er.
I think not, that would get me a big "BAN!" so it's more of a
#me nods
which would be out of character for Malvita because he wouldn't speak to a lower race ANYWAY!
I think it's an offence that should be punished like any other. ("You" is often used on the RP boards by the way...) but most probably don't feel that it's that bad.
I agree, though about not putting names in #me actions. It kills RP because the player might not want to have his character interact with the other, named, character. Of course the character would have no way to KNOW that this person is infact the named person.
Am I just ranting or did you get all that?

I didn't really understand this part, but that's not quite your fault.Malvita Rynal wrote:but she said

That must be the downright dumbest use of #me I've ever seen.
Why? Because if I understood it right, it's the most blatant example of forced RP. It's dictating that someone else notices your character. You simply can't do that. The idea is to use the #me function to do something to draw attention, not force it via the #me. The attention drawn to oneself is the reaction to the action, and you're not allowed to dictate that reaction, that's up to the other player.
Now to the problem of using
#me nods
when it's ooc for the character to do that, like in given example, you could try for something like this:
#me fixes his gaze on the exit and tries to avoid looking at the halfling
or even something like this:
#me cocks his chin up a bit and obviously ignores the halfling
If a char of mine is not ignoring someone by simply not facing them while I have them talk with someone else, and they don't draw attention, I don't underline that the char is ignoring them. But in other situations, like two characters simply passing, I'm a bit more eloquent in the descriptions as to give cues for the RP.
As it is, you can't tell by the graphics if someone is walking, or running, sneaking or casually hiking around. You can't see head, hand or eye movements, which would tell alot of a characters nature and demeanor. You can't discern if people are variably tall, dressed differently, or even of different ages.
That's where the #me function comes into play.

I had never noticed before how little #me functions I used on a daily basis until I got Malvita, with whom I use a ton. Even when I'm by myself (or being watched by all you crazy people!) I use them. It's really useful to keep me on topic (I have NOOO attention span) and helps me stay in the persona of the character. Granted I only give #me's about... well... ME! Because I'm the only character I have any control over.
