A Catastrophe

Post by Moirear Sian »

A parchment is nailed to the door of the shop, flapping in the wind:

Dear fellow inhabitants of this island,
A monster is on the loose. It is not a monster like you may think at first, it is not a troll, nor an ogre, nor is it undead. No - it's a creature with hands. This being must be capable of using an ax and a shovel, because a massive amount of trees is missing.
This "being" is ruining all the woods in and around Troll's Bane.
This "being" was frivolous enough to cut at the Circle of Trees, and even deroot them.
It has already gone too far, but this pushes farther beyond any thinkable limits.
These heinous crimes must be stopped. Keep a sharp look-out for this criminal.
Whoever you, the culprit, may be; beware.
You will pay for cutting at the Circle of Trees.
May the Gods' wrath come upon ye.

---

Ah my nameless friend, but there are much more harsh punishments than death. For such a crime as this fiend of a person has committed, death would be a gift. The criminal must be caught on spot with some evidence, and brought to justice.

As for guarding the woods, you are not alone.

I will be closely monitoring the north gate of Troll's Bane. I've been told that a felon will return to the scene of crime - and not yet has the entire Circle of Trees been cut down. I suspect this vile crook will actually return to finish his dirty deed.

I'll be waiting for it.

However, if this monster is able to read these parchments here, he might turn to the southern forest to continue his dirty work there. If someone could closely watch over the southern forest, I would be relieved, as I cannot be everywhere at the same time, either.

I have hopes that if enough people cooperate, we will be able to stop this imbecile in proper time.

Some words for extra heeding, though. There is a lumberjack working in the forests to the east, right near the desert. His work is apparently legitimate, and should not be interfered with. Rand is his name, and I know pretty much for sure that he would not commit such an vicious act.

One person per direction in which a forest is located, each.
It's a good start. I hope for more to assist in this.
I repeat: this is not a manhunt, but the case of catching a dangerous criminal. I implore everybody participating to carry rope with you, and to not act with brute violence against this maniac, unless out of necessity of self defense. But if he's not willing to cooperate and turn himself into the Guards for further inspection, he or she must be immediately stopped.

All help is warmly welcomed.

The more we have up by the North gate for now, the better. The Northern forest - large parts of it have been devastated, not only the Circle of Trees.

I will be meeting you there, Jorge.

The trees are gone, this interferes with my plans i had this day. If i come across the one who did this act, they shall face myself. As for guarding it, i imagine those who offered to guard, are those responsible.

I feel pretty sure that nobody who has volounteered to guard the forests is involved in these crimes. I have a main suspect as to who's behind it, but I will not give out the name here on these walls yet, until the suspicion has solid proof to go along with it.
I beg you to not accuse anybody yet Kaja, until evidence has been found. The last thing we need now is that someone starts hunting down someone else because of a personal conviction, rather than keeping the eyes open for the actual criminal and nailing the fool with evidence as to turn him in - I believe the elves of the northern forests might be interested, however it strikes me funny that none of them except for Elowan has offered any help in these matters.
My investigations have shown the following, and the noble Belegi has confirmed and added greatly to them:
The trails from the Circle of Trees appear to be of human feet, more precisely, boots or shoes. But it's hard to tell, because people seem to have been wandering around aimlessly at the scene of crime. The number of culprits is unknown as of yet, because the forest grounds were so severely trampled over and overturned by digging; and the trails of dirt and mud lose themselves into the northern gate. The culprit(s) are of average or higher physical prowess, as large portions of the Northern forest went missing in a surprisingly short time. So it is thinkable that there was more than one person to commit the crime.

Fedaykin reads the new board messages as he comes to this message he slowly shakes his head and writes a notice

Will they ever learn?

After that he continues his way to the forest to plant some of trees again

This is madness. Maybe the three headed swine of greed collected the wood for his own selfish profit. Beware of him.

Nonsense!
It was the Prancing Magenta Troll with the powers of the fiery hellstorm! He plans framing a poor innocent little halfling while he vanquishes the forests with his hellstorms of hell.

I pondered the same thing, but I decided on the that the three headed swine of greed would be more logical. He seems to wander in the northen forests more often than any other place. Do not forget about the Prancing Mganta Troll of Madness, though, he could be another target.

The trees have been restored to a big part, as far as I can see. Even Cross Garden is returning to its former glory.

Ceigan, dear self-proclaimed Master Tree Remover, I sincerely hope that you are not behind these doings.

Moirear,
I am in no way part of these terrible crimes. I remove trees when they are a threat or blocking a path. I am stunned you would consider me. Nor am I the Three Headed Swine of Greed, or the Prancing Magenta Troll of Madness.

Signed,
The surprised Ceigan

Ceigan,
I am glad to read that.
Considerations were made, and you will understand that some of the evidence would point to you, or a man of your unique talent. This is and was, however, no accusation.
