The off topic board.

Post by The Returner »

This isent a proposal or someodd like Darlok made, this is just to give my take on the Off-topic forum.

The forum is offtopic, this *should* mean that anything, within normal illarion rules, should apply (ALL ooc rules)

But no where, does it say that people need to stay on-topic. Of course, it is the off topic forum, and its "nice" if they stayed on topic, but face it, look whose on the off topic forum, and compare them to "nice"

If you dont like what people are saying on the off-topic board. Do not read the off-topic board. If its your thread, contact one of illarions ever helpfull moderators, don't go lone ranger, or else your making more trouble seeHere

Don't whine about spamming, theres no rule against off-topic posts in the off topic board. And if there was, well, then its pointless and lost most of its appeal. see Here

As for this chatroom thing, illarion does have an IRC channel, but its rarely used. Also, not many members of the forum have IRC, so maybe if someone put a java-chat on their webspace, it would stop the bitching.

No offense ment.

I'm sure you have good intentions, but I believe Off-Topic pertains to meaning 'not concerning Illarion.' But other than that, On-Topicness is required in my opinion.

The concept of the "Off-Topic" Board is:

To talk about things not related to Illarion.

Not:
"How to change the original topic of this thread as fast as possible."

Illarion rules apply on the boards, and with that also on the Off-Topic board, just read them more carefuly.

Edit:
Bloodhearte was a bit faster.
Just some notes to add:

The Off-Topic Board should have a niveau after all and should not be clustered with Fast-Food-Topics. (Dont take this literally, think about it.)

Concept, yes.

There is no rule that clearly states "Stay on topic in the off topic board."

You are not allowed to spam.

I consider all posts, straying away from the starters intention, as Spam.

If the thread works its way into a different topic. Then it's staying on topic as long as it used the basis of the beginning. Somehow working from the beginning of the topic. To the end result, in my opinion, is not going off topic. And isn't a bad thing.

Does there have be a rule about it?

There's no rule saying I can't swear like a sailor, and drop 100 spam PMs into your inbox. But I don't do it, simply, because it's rude, annoys people, and doesn't make anything better.

Rules are basic. Manners are required.

If a thread developes then its perfectly fine.

Currently I see more.

"Lets talk about literature."
-"I like the color pink"
-"My cat is cute."
-"I hate beans."

Edit:
Seany, I am active on 6 Boards.
I know the drill.

But it is, when people type senseless, random one-liners that I have no care in reading. It's a waste of board space.

You know what it's like to crave for one of Hagen's posts, the ones that were paragraphs long and pumped with good opinions?

And instead, get "right whatever lol!!!"

Why not? Does your average day consist of making people angry over little, tedious things like internet boards?

Generally, My average "Day" Consists of arguing with my campaign players over how I should run internet boards.

So, in short, yes.

A mod and admin who defends spam-o-topia.
I consider myself lucky that I dont visity any of these forums.
Forums that I visit are neat, organized and upkeep a friendly atmosphere, with one exeption the offical Söldner Board, but sometimes you have to swallow a bitter pill.

Being active on such a larger number of boards dooms you to only scratch on the sureface of each and not being able to get deeper involved with the local community.
(Unless these formus you mean have less then 10 members.)

So, there are an abundance of people who disagree with you, on more than one board.

And every single one of them are wrong?

Interesting.

I don't intend to turn this subject into a flame war, but there are some things people should follow just out of politeness. Not every single thing should be a written rule. It makes everybody's day, including yours, much easier.

16 is quite a few. I'd advise you to take a break.

But then again, most internet boards are chalk full of people who are spammers in any case. I don't think getting experience from outside influences would help you around here.

Edit: Responding to your other post.

You don't have to use manners only for getting friends. It's just a nice thing to have around. And on internet boards, trustworthy individuals don't try to cut corners to everything they do, unless there is some strict rule about it.

My point here is, If its not against the rules, then ask a rule be made. Otherwise, stop trying to turn people into the perfect board member, I tried that approach once, and I ended up with more spam, and more unhappy members then my "shut up and listen" approach surprisingly.

If theres spam, the mods will deal with it. Not you.

Nobody is trying to turn anybody into "the perfect board member."

You have your opinion, that's fine. You prefer to be more aggressive with your postings, that's fine. But it seems as if you're supporting spam.

I dont support spam, I do find posts like "I like your pink hat11111" To be annoying, however, it is all in fun, and that IS why illarion exists, need i remind.

"Fun" be careful with that word Sean.

Fun for you is something completly different from the fun I have in mind.

You can have fun as long you dont destroy the fun of others.
Yes some really enjoy a nice discussion about deep topics.
The easiest way would be sperate corners for each kind of fun, and everybody would stay out of the other corner.

So pack your things and move to the test board. :P

I present to you Sean, the smackdown, Darlok style.

The thing is, there are already about 1,000,000 other places to do the stuff spammers do for fun. It's rare to find any places that don't.

But these should be one of the places that doesn't tolerate it, because I feel like staying some more.

Nah. At least that stuff is deleted in a matter of days, not that I'd see much use of the test board anyway.

Taken from the first page.
Spend a little more time for reading Nilo. ;)

Or, if you like it more official, the discription of the board you mentioned.
(Which you should also have read many times.)
Here you can post Illarion off-topic things. / Hier kannst Du Themen schreiben, die nichts mit Illarion zu tun haben.

I didn't read the whole thread, just a few postings, but let me tell what I think:

Changing topics can be interesting sometimes. That happens and there is no problem.
However, this has nothing to do with *destroying* topics. Change and destruction are different words.

Although I don't post that often, I often post a few paragraphs; nonetheless, it seems that people don't read them.

There have been times where I've made quite a few points only for someone to make one point that I've already brought up in one sentence. Who's message gets read? The other person's, of course.

I often, in situations like the above, wonder why I bother.

I hear a lot of complaints about posts more than two paragraphs. If you can't read the four short paragraphs that I average in a post, you are utterly worthless to society. There is no way at all that you have any idea what's happening on this planet or that you will ever manage to survive an economy that is becoming more reliant on education.

I miss Mishrack. He reads my posts. Where has he been?
