I think you shouldn't make proposals when drunk! Illarion is surely hard to maintain already! they do not have enough people for two separate games.

no ... something serious ... there are  no thoughts about this at the moment ...

besides the problem of making the game there's also a lack of a server for that ...

dear sean

each single grafic you see in the game took someone between 30 mins (easy ones)
and several hours (difficult ones)

this for editing the 3d object, rendering it, cutting it, fitting it into the game

so alone the gfx right now amount to several month of work.
and if you ever tried programming you might have an idea how much work that is.

i suggest you just try.

then come back and comment again.

After rendering, every item must be worked over.. in rendering, to make the things look good, their border "mix" with the background color. You have to rework it so that this border does not show (and the graphics still look good). That's pixel-work. And every moving figure has 16 graphics (they must fit exactly) : 4 for every direction.
As you can see that takes some time =)
And to make a complex figure in 3d, well, i am playing with a dragon shape, and that for several hours - and it still lacks arms and legs, as well as wings.

You can download blender at http://www.blender.nl, it's size is about 2 MB. There are several tutorials too.
The most powerful tool, or one of the most powerful, is the extrude function, in combination with scaling. You can make whole figures with that. Then you need 4 cameras, in a matching perspective (one ground square must look loke a floorplate, twice as wide as high).

Since blender is a free tool, has online tutorials in almost all functions, and will be developed further too, you have no excuse not to try it out a bit. But be warned, blender is complex. But with the starting tutorials, and a little time, you can work into it.

So you have no excuse - start making cool graphics now.

Hallo

@damien
is topic is about the "whole" work you have when u want make a graphical online game *g*
so the gfx dont help you much if you dont have a running basment and so on

if he wants to make a game let him do it and dont tell it is impossible

btw you can ask the people from "cyrin" too how hard it is to make a graphical online game

I did never say it is impossible. I only said, if it's that easy, do it, and i told him where to find a nice tool to make the graphics... now he can try.

Sean, can you stop spamming the board with useless ideas.
You well know that we do not even wish for "Illarion 3000"
And I really doubt you can make even the client for it.
So, stop trying to make the GM's mad, they have enough work right now
without having to worry about someone stirring up stupid ideas.
And for RP, you do not roleplay very well, you should work on that for the moment.
So THINK before you SPEAK. (type...)

I don't know about all the technical details and tricks needed for a server- client- stuff, and i dont have the time to do such a thing. And so you should stop writing the "YOU" big, i never said, like persons like "YOU" for example "i know all the technical stuff ". I know pretty well that Bror and Baldur do this in spare time, and i was not the one who came up with this idea. So stop trying to make it look like i was the guy who did.
Wellwell, you did not really "complain", but what you said sounded very much like "wohooo guys now make it it is easy even i could do that..." Well, and if you can make some good graphics, then do it. There is a forum topic and some stuff on the page that tell you how the things should look like that can be used, to fit in perspective and size.

Actually, i am working in the story team, and make some few little graphics from time to time.  But as said before, i'm not the point of discussion here.
So stop feeling attacked by me, i just give some facts. You don't need to try to make me look silly (that just makes you look childish, come on stop it). I don't have anything against you. I understand that you bring up ideas, what brings us back to the topic here, that was your illarion 3000 idea. And the fact is, the staff is busy enough working on the game version we have now, and would not have time to do all the work to make a second game, with completely new items that must be created in graphics and scripted in the game too. In trying to explain this, so that persons not knowing the hell of a work it is simply to do good looking and matching graphics (i didn't mention the programming, because i don't know source or programming of the game, and my C and assembler skills are developed only on school- and work- base hehe) come to understand it, and perhaps can try out making things themselves.
It's good when you bring up ideas, but you must not feel atacked if someone tries to explain why it cannot EASILY be realized (as you said : "IF IT WAS SO MUCH WORK HOW DID THEY MAKE ILLARION? ", you read Bror's answer). And that Illarion-3000-idea was a "beer-idea" indeed *g*, it would take a lot of time too, and the "old" game development would be slowed down to zero.

actually damien i do not mean to be mean but
1) i have made a new graphic in a day (ok i admit the end was a lil rushed but thats what u get pixel by pixel)
2) i said i can make concept art a story and some new GFX already
3) even if i had 4 or 5 or16 beers still dont mean its a bad idea
4) illarion will have a wider band of fans from medievil multiplayer gamers to sci-fi gamers
5) i am sure that illarion medievil wont be slowed down to much if only a small amount of work is put into illarion 3000

Do you realize that when you say, "It's Fun"
The programmers are (most likely) having NO FUN whatsoever right now
They are bogged down with not only schoolwork but moronic ideas
From a psycho who drinks yellow potions and spams the boards.
I have nothing more to say, except that:
Arguing with Sean is like trying to teach a dog to read.
It is impossible and it never ends, so I ask everyone to
just ignore the topic instead of always arguing with him!
Thanks

Erdrick is a "bit" older player than you, sean.. *g*

You can increase the speed of graphics making greatly when using a 3d program. Pixels just don't look as great, and it's a Problem to do them in the right perspective.

With the help of a 3d program, i made over fourty different armor graphics in abnout two days. They look a bit like the full and half leather armors (the form used is the same, varies in additional things and in texture).

The stuff i made with a pixel thingy before, several quite funny looking books (well about 40 or more, dunno) were not matching the perspective well. They can eventually be used for book items in a shelf or so... but the problem is, as objects on the floor, they would simply look silly.
The next i made were matching, but far too big (only possible for a huge book lying on an altair or so).
You see, it may need some trials to make really fitting stuff =) but thats okay.

You could do it much faster with any 3d program. Hmm... where did you get the ideas of the looks ? Some look a bit familiar, dunno how. Did you use some kind of model you made em after ?

but u seem to be impressed by my sword works and i have not seen ne of ur armours at all but they r not supposed to look the same as original or they have less originaly and wont have a good chance of bieing put in game
and u preach 3d software i guess u dont have the talent it takes for MS paint lol

ARGH. Now stop talking Bullshit without knowing a single fact.
(Some of my Graphics already are in the game, for example the full and half leather armor)  Martin and me had some long ICQ talks, and i had some practice, before i was able to make graphics that fit in the game. So don't start to tell me i don't know how to make stuff hehe.

Your swords may look good, but the problems are :
a) Size
b) No transparence color
c) Perspective ( Must look like lying or standing on an illarion floor plate)

The size problem is, when you size them down, they start to look stupid. Believe me, i found that out myself =) before i found out how to switch output file size in blender.

Pixel by pixel, in combination with an oversampling method like you used, may look as nice as made with a 3d Program, but it's perspective is twodimensional. It looks as if the item is attached on a plane that is mounted in 90 degree to the viewer. As if mounted to a wall that stands in front of you, lack third dimension (into te screen). With a 3d Prog you can create any view, and as i said, it's much faster too.

All items must have an "invisible", means transparence color. It must exactly be : RGB - 255 0 255.

And speaking of MS paint talent, as said before, you did not see anything i made with such program, so shut up. The things i made with it don't look bad, but they have the "old" problems yours have too : either perspective or size.
So i stopped using a pixel Program, and started working into blender.
