To get more users to Illarion.

I have a idea how to get more users to Illarion. Do not take so much time to agree names, and skip the story-writing-thing. If you bader at roleplaying if you can´t write a god English story? Everyone do not come from an Englishtalking land. You don´t realy have many players online, so it is wery important to do so.

Well, I must also mention, this game is prodominantly german too if you haven't noticed. I think two languages is enough oppurtunity. Swedish for one thing is a germanic language just like german and English. So I think it may vary. Just my two sense.

The owners of the game do not care for quantity, but quality of players. I agree. The day I see LordChaos in game I will leave.

What I mean is that the short story you have to write is not so good thing to do. If I want to play a quite loonly human wizard, why do I have to write stories?
Do you think Ragor is a good name?

Well, story writing and role playing are a bit different in two different ways.

No asking is my name good. If you abide by the name rules, then you have no reason to ask here.

Right.

Well, the fact is we don't necessarily WANT loads of people playing. As for different languages, if this game doesnt suit you, find another.

@hermie: Yes, LordChaos would cause me to leave as well...

@Ragor : The reason we have the account system is so that people dont name themselves CompactDisc. And yes, somone has named themselves that in the past. So there is good reason behind it.

Actually those name lists are posted once in a while of the names that are tried...and there are thousands upon thousands. I like the way they handle the names and accounts. It is so amazing the only people with problems with the current system are always those who are just impatient and really really really want to play.

"LordChaos" would cause me to call someone who can ban. There is also a nice new command in the game, called "!gm", where you can send a short message to all GMs, even if noone is online.
Syntax is : !gm blablablabla...
Of course, replace the "blablablabla" by the important things you have to say.

Just my two cents.

You don't actually write the story, you finish it. They give you a situation and tell you your character. It is then up to you to show you understand roleplaying by acting out the sequence how that character would, not you or anyone else.

It doesn't matter if the increase in players is slow, it's not that people don't want new people in the game (in fact I'm sure most players do.) It's just to ensure that players can roleplay.

Names like LordChaos I wouldn't have minded when I first started because, to be honest, I had never really roleplayed before and this was the first online game I had played. The game has changed since then and the focus on roleplay has been greatly improved leaving us with advantages, and disadvantages.

If you want to check your name this should help http://illarion.org/illarion/us_name_rules.php

This is my first post, and I have yet to visit the world of Illarion, but I am excited.

This post struck a chord in me, though, on an old RP I used to belong to. Without new blood, role play can stagnate as people leave, and those who remain can become.. sad.. or maybe just arrogant. I should know; I was one of them, back in them old days.

It's very very intimidating for someone to join a world so in depth and full of strange professionals. I am only thankful my first experiences were in a world filled with general apathy.

Remember, there is a little bit of LordChaos in all of us.

How can I forgot the old days? But Lord Chaos is now called Astral, like Dyluck just mentioned. But I am sure, you know this, Returner.

I remember there being a LordChaos, but back in the older days I didn't care much. Now they game is more specific and I've grown used to it (and like the better roleplay, even though it has some disadvantages.)

Good even though the majority is 16+...

I have to agree with Returner, not all the good rpers are a bit overrated.

Heh.
Well, alright, maybe everyone doesn't roleplay perfectly, but at least we dont have those idiot Pkers hiding behind houses slaughtering everyone and 'jimmythekidofdoomX70132' is not a player.

PS. Why the huge space after the quote?

Maybe the GM's should check the name, and not the story. Its obvious that idiots and bad roleplayers get in. I think they ought to spend a little less time worrying about the story, and a little more time in game checking there actual RP. Im sure if some of the best roleplayers tried to get in now they'd find something to not let them in, then not tell them about it so they dont know how to fix it.

I'm just starting, so take this for what it's worth...

I don't normally like needing to make a story for my characters. I don't mind making one when I feel it is necessary, but I usually like taking the happenings in a game to create a story for my character, and to formulate his personality off of that. This character doesn't really have a background of any significance so I wasn't sure what I should put in the story section of the character creation. That fact brings a question to mind: do you need to have a story in your character sumbission for it to be accepted as a valid character?

No

If its that obvious, feel free to contact a GM of your choise, and complain about it.
Alternativly you can use violations@illarion.org or the new !gm - command.

By the way, I recently stumbeled upon a even heavier rp-pre-check for a roleplay enforced online game which renders our check here to a tiny nothing.

Oh and I have seen great names wasted on non-rpers,
and I dont want to ever meet one of them in Illarion.

On the other hand, the opinion who is a good roleplayer and who not differs heavily from person to person.
So maybe you think a specific person is a goor player, but because of certain views how to impersonate a role he does not truly fit here.
