Two proposals - 1 about mead and 1 about boats

Post by Leif »

Mead, as everyone know, was the common drink of vikings
as dwarfes are viking inspired, we should have mead...
in real, mead was made of honey and some other stuff...
honey is easy to model, isnt it? just make some yellow goo...
and we could mix the honey with mushroom, maybe
(the bezerks(a viking clan) ate mushrooms , so they got mad)

and about boats... after a while, there will be more islands...
therefore there should be a way to make boats (boats are better than bridges and tunnels)
the cheapest one's should cost... ah... quite some money and it can hold 1 people
and the biggest and baddest ships should cost ALOT of silvers and hold 10 people
and to exclude boat-theft... there should only be able to use the boat if you use a key or something...
and you could make more keys (if nessecary) at a locksmith-npc....

doesnt it sound cool?
maybe someone could make themselfes a job  as a ferry man

It's always better to choose people who can't swim as a boat crew. They will defend the boat longer and more enthusiastic.

It's the same in RL armies :)

but still... isnt that good ideas?
at least the mead...
and mead is a magical drink in old scandinavia.. the recepy was given by odin
and it could heal...
it should heal both mana and heal, but it should be hard to walk straight after a few...
like each time you press a button (the arrows) then it will walk randomly...
cool? i think so

and about the boats... who of us can play illarion 24 hours a day?
not me... therfore i think the idea with the key (or a removable steeringwheel) is ok
or we could have a harbour and an npc would grant only sertain people to steer the boat...

and dwarfes are good boatsmen and swimmers too (but not with armour on)
(vikings boats where the fastest boats for over 700 years...
no boat went faster than a viking boat untill the frigatte in the 1600's
so between 8?0 -1600 vikingboats where fastest... but they where only used as fishingboats after the last real norwegian king died in 1315, and the scandinavian kalmar union started.. )

i love being so full of intelectual junk...

Not only the scandinavians had mead.
Celtic, Teutonen Hunn amd so on, had mead too.
I´m happy if we can see ale or mead in the game and i think it mustend be powerfull to fill the mana and/or heal

I dunno it right but can it be that you see the dwarfes as Vikings ?
Sometimes it sounds strange.

Dwarfs.. Vikings.. not the same. But in this game they kinda look the same. Except that vikings are bigger then trolls ;)

It was only the Vikings (From the beginning) that had mead made by honey.

And the boat thing, GREAT idea! But I think they ways of getting a boat could be more different. Maybe possible to summon a small bot. Possible to build them, but then you need alot of tree and alot of other stuff, like leather to the sail and all that.
It would be hard to find a good idea about boat guarding, and if you havent noticed it, its kinda easy to steal one irl. Boats made by a master of hmm.. boat making?, shall go fast.
And boats made by looser should sometimes even sink.

I also think it should be possible to eat toad stool (those poison mushrooms) .
You eat them, run berserk, then dieing(Or getting to wounded to fight).
It would also be kinda fun if it were possible to poision food. But only high skilled druids could do that.

Its not easy to steal a boat in rl, in the middle ages
the harbour master (i dont know what he's called)
had the responsbility... to guard the ships, for an amount of coin...
or they could have private guards....
and if we could build boats, then the lands would fill up with boats...
i think we should gather materials for the boatbuilder npc
AND give him alot of gold, this would keep the boats on a good basis...
and steering a boat should be hard, therfore we should have a seamanship skill
the celts had mead, but they got it from the norse merchants
and the huns, had something quite like mead, but it was not really mead because
it was made in a different way... not aging, but more like a cocktail cause they
had alcohol and mixed stuff with it...

do bror read this?
what do you think, bror?

I think, that it could be possible to build a ship. In combination with my idea to reform the skill learning Ive wrote, that the skills could get different at a level. So a carpenter with a high level could deside to learn a shipbuilder skill. Per action a defined number of wood, leather and cloth will be need and a defined percent of a boat can be build. First only small boats for 1 people can be build and it need 10 succesful actions to build it. If 5 actions for one boat are not succesful, the boat isnt ready for shipping, unessential how often successes will be reach in follow. Per Action need the Shipbuilder per example 10 wood, 10 leather and 10 cloth. And he need 1 minute for the action for example. If the Char reach the next level, he can build a greater boat for 2 people within 20 actions with the same amount of products per level and a normal boat in 9 actions. At third level boat for 3 people in 30 actions, boat for 2 people in 18 actions and boat for 1 people 8 actions and so on. Another important point is, that a shipbuilder skill should restrict the learning of other skills more, so a shipbuilder is a 99% specialist, who cant make many more than ships. This is a way to restrict ship numbers and give some players the chance to trade in new ways.

Since the map will be rather big later, and it takes time to walk-

What about making one depot for each town. Then build Trade carts and trade boats.

Lets say, that there isnt much tree in the south, then you buy a trade cart and travel from the north to the south with alot of tree and sell it down there.
This way trading would be alot more fun too!

Trading ways and systems would be real fun to put in to Illarion.

trading seems, great...
but that would come by itselfes, when we get a boat
but not everyone should have his own boat...
it should be hell expencive and hell hard to make...
and if we make it then each of us would have 2900304875 boats...
and if you multiple that with a few houndred... that would make...
a hell alot of boats...
but only a few might use the boat, but since its so expencive , there should ba a way
to share the boat...
by making more "keys"
one to each wh may use it...
a boat is only for the richest and most prosper in illarion

"Keys" would require programming exceptions. Every key would need an own script, that is why keys are not possible at the moment. Same for personal items, oorlocks an stuff.
Such will eventually be made possible in some time. But it will need some time.

Belongs to the boat size. But give it time, it can be discussed when we need it.
