Small problem with library - Evil books

Post by Dax »

Evening,

I've been pondering a bit as I read through some of the book in the library.. one of the books said something about a druids herb though I couldn't quite understand it.

I began to wonder if a new illarionite began to read the books to learn and stumbled upon this book would they gain the knowledge of druidism without actually wanting to?

I hope my point has come clear.

no idea if it is chosen in using the knowledge (when developing the skill) or reading the books. But since most new ones do not have enough library research skill to find the magic or druid books, that's not a big problem. Until now, noone complained about being given a job by that, as far as i know.

I was teaching my apprentice, Nahkn, the basics of Illarion...
When he asked me to teach him a new skill, I said,
"How about Library Research? It's a great way to learn information on Illarion!"
So we went to the library, and I taught him to read.
He was reading books left and right! Next we went to the NPC store...
I asked him beforehand if he wanted to be a Druid or Spellcaster.
He replied swiftly, Spellcaster.
When we got there I bought him a Mes book as a present.
We went back to the cave east of the zombie labyrinth...
On our way, I hacked at  few zombies... a Pen book was inside one!
Grimacing, I reached inside the zombie and pulled out the book,
which was covered with Insides.
I gave it to Nahkn and he read it enthusiastically.
Being a Druid I only heard of some magic spells, one which was very potent.
Mes-Pen
I taught this ancient spell to Nahkn and he tried it out.
"What? Theres no runes here, Erdrick!" he said.
I asked him what WAS there, and he said,
"A grey line over a red line!"
I had to figure it out, but at last the answer poppped into my skull.
"Oh No! A Desert Sandberry! Thats a druid spell ingredient!"
He frowned and said, "So why do I have an ingredient instead of a rune?"
I only knew one reason. The library.

That brings me to the conclusion that maybe, when you make your character,
you can pick which profession you will be, druid or mage.
Then, when you read the library books, you can only see the 3 secret runes/ingredients that should be known to your character. Why would a druid read of magic spells, anyway??
Think about this, Damien, and maybe you can sort things out.

Later in the game it will be possible to toggle between runes and herbs, i.e. you will be able to use both.

I only hope Bror that will not make things too far out of hand.

when this option will be available, there will be other features to restrict players so they don't get allmighty but be shaped after their profession

Well, that teaches us not to tell the newbies to put up their research skill first.
The profession syste will be great, especially with a good multiclass system =)

I've heard of the profession system in other games and it really made them awesome.
Maybe, we can gain skills quicker and/or slower with druids/mages?
What I mean is, Concussion rises better when you are a druid, parry when bard, etc.
Just an idea. Cant wait. Cya.

hmmm, thats great, but we should think of it,I mean a druid should be able to make potions and to heal!I mean a druid with attacking spells would be nonsense!

MAYBE:
In next version or two, we could fight a plant-monster, like a thornbush (?)
VERY rarely we could obtain a book from it, which acts like a weak Mes-Pen.
This would help, because Druids can't even lose mana right now.

@Bror: That would bring in a fresh wave of powergamers...
