and so the armored tanks go unharmed and us leather people get our bums kicked.

Multiplying armor values byu 1.5 will not work. Shadows is right. THe tanks will gain the most out of it since they already have a high armor value.

Salathe wrote:honest to god, the fighting system we had after the update was GREAT. I really loved it.

PLEASE go back to the way it was.
Okay, now I tell you something:

After the update, everyone had the same amount of hitpoints and constitution did not play a role (due to bugs).

Are going to tell me that this was "great"?

You repeat it over and over and over again, I read it, stfu.

I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY tired of hearing that.

Why?
The new fighting system gives a lot more possibilities. Of course it needs to be balanced here and there, but it has just started and as you can see: There are people working on it.

Also I think that you are slightly frustrated, because you haven't figured out this system yet. And that you (just like Salathe) are not able anymore to walk alone to the crypt with your high skills and kill monsters like other people cut grass.

I think a little bit more patience is needed?

I changed the distance fighting now and lowered its effects.

I have an 56k-modem and a stable connection and nearly no problems with playing Illarion. But when I am fighting now I have almost always a lag of around 2 secs (only when I am in fighting mode!).
So maneuvers are hardly possible...!

Happens to me as well. Every other char I trained with runs circles around me before my char even reacts to any command.

There is a large delay in which you cannot move after you have just hit someone. A simple solution, if you want to move, untarget them.

I wish Illarion had a real targetting system. As in, you can stop attacking someone in order to move, and very easily start attacking again.

Posted: Mon Apr 24, 2006 6:17 pm
by Nalzaxx
It does, you have to Ctrl Click on the person. Its not hard really...

When you're both moving? It doesn't have a REAL targetting system, as in one where you can accomplish another task while not attacking. I'd rather not have to untarget them, move, then retarget them and probably have to move again anyway. It's not a very fluid targetting system.

I will test it with untargeting someone, but as Dónal Mason said, actual it seems not very "fluid".

What about stop attacking as long as you press STRG? In that time you could easily move...

Archery is still rather over-powered.

7 arrows fired from a "magical elven bow"; me with absolutly no skill at the beginning, killed a pig..

Now I know that arrows are expensive and all, but its too much for a beginner to kill that easily.

Not sure whether it should be changed though, what do you think?

You give me a bow and i'll take down a pig in 7 shots.

Would you rather have that or having to fire something around 40 to kill it?

by Estralis Seborian
Did you hit 7 times out of 7 attempts?

I also agree, 7 successful attacks on a pig are OK even for a n00b. I will check archery, too and report back.

Edit: At a glance, archery seems to be a quicker way to kill enemies than melee, but at a good rate. Melee seems to be underpowered.

Before I agree, it was underpowered.

But would you expect a total n00b archer to take down pigs that quickly? The magical elven bow isn't particularly powerful either.

ADDED -> @ Estralis: I think so, there was always the attack sound...

I can pwn pigs with 1 bolt and I have light blue skill.

Hadrian_Abela wrote:But would you expect a total n00b archer to take down pigs that quickly?
Jupp. Pigs are weak. VERY weak. Something in the range of 5-10 hits are a good number for a n00b with suitable equipment. IMHO, every monster should go down after 3-100 hits, depending on skills, stats, equipment and so on. Numbers below 3 are as useless as numbers above 100 (=invincible).

Has anybody noticed critical hits? I didn't, are there any? If not, adding a ~1% chance for a hit to disregard armor could be nice. Same holds for wildcard hits, not sure if there are any. 5% for this (1/20, AD&D, anyone?) sounds reasonable. Also, capped damage (49.9% of HP maximum) and minimum damage (1% of HP) are also some things I'd add. -> every monster goes down after 100 hits and 2000 attacks kill everything. Quite alot, but better than invincible monsters...

That's a crappy solution. The time bonus you get is minimal plus you are hit very easy (because no dodge or parry).

I made some changes to shields and double weapon fights:
1) Using a shield caused your damage to be just 50% (due to a bug). That's corrected now.
2) Using two weapons did not make enough damage, I raised that.

Still too high in my opinion. With yellow slashing skills and bastard sword it takes me 2.

Wow...pigs killed in 2-5 hits. In my day, it took a n00b 43. And I counted. There wasn't much else to do when killing pigs. Except chase it around. :D

I think i have somehow created an ultimate orc.. :D (not Retlak)

He is learning all skills quickly including tactics. He can take loads of damage and kills pigs in 6 hits of wrestling. :P
