Actually, that explains quite a lot of things.
People have said this countless times.
A lot of people are not accepted
It would take a lot of work to describe every single problem with the story.
Telling someone what was wrong with their story would mean that they only have to slightly modify their current story to pull it up to standard.
This is a serious Role-Playing game. If you cannot Roleplay well, you do not deserve to be here.
You may try again if you wish, though.

I must admit i see where he is coming from though. The application system is quite complicated and has it's quirks. First a newb applies, then after waiting a while he asks how long it will be, he is met by somewhat rude responses(as is ofter the case) of stop spamming and you'll get a reply when the GMs can manage it, then after waiting several weeks he's still hasn't heard anything what would you think? Then finally he recieves a reply saying he isn't accepted. And when he tries to find out why? He gets responses such as the posts in this topic.
Imagine yourself in his position (although many of you have been in it and know what it's like), you must admit it is quite a tedious process. I mean i know we want serious roleplayers for illarion, but just because someone may not be imcredibly patient, doesn't mean they're a bad player. I think we might be scaring away a lot of potential with the newbs these days.
just my thoughts.

I see what you mean, however I don't show much simpathy for those who ask questions that they have the answers to, or have been written on the main page. Perhaps make a new page on the site where it tells why the gm's don't use an automated system and how it works. This would be a little repititios, but not everyone remembers without repitition.
As someone who just discovered this game, today.. but, who has played RPG's before.. I can see where everyone is coming from...
Veterans see the same thing being said over and over again, by new people..
New people, not having encountered whatever problem before, ask questions, and hope to get guidance for whatever information they are lacking, or a nudge in the right direction, so they can answer their own questions...
That long tirade being said... I think the GM's, who review the application process, should not send 'we can't tell you why' responses. They don't even need to be verbose. It could simply be things like:
-Story too simple
-Character name is bad.
-Story lacks substance for an RPG environment...
Any number of simple one sentence responses can speak volumes to the new people, and will at least lead the new person to reflect on the category of what's wrong, so they (not the GM's) can spend the hour or two rethinking what they wanted to do.
I could go on further, but I don't want to leave a novel here, especially not knowing how this will be received... as I get the feel of the environment here, I will likely be more in line with what's going on... but... until then, I will carefully plod along, and hope I don't step on any dwarf toes, without looking down first... (then again, if I look down, and step on their toe anyway, that doesn't speak too well of ME, now does it...)

My thoughts
Well my thoughts on this are if we have a bad name and a good story you may decline us and we may spend 2 hours correcting our story even though it already matches the criteria, we would then wait and find out it is declined again; wasting your time and ours. I'm not saying that you have to write a paragragh or even a sentance about whats wrong with our character but even if you just went.Keikan Hiru wrote:If I tell you your mistakes, you would simply correct them at the next application.
That doesnt show me much of your rp-skills.
(I am using 'you' for everyone out there.)
-story
or
-character name
or
-title
it would save us a lot of of time and you a lot of time.

Hmm.... well... as being someone who has yet to get their first email, one way or the other (then again, it's just approaching a week old), I'd like at least some notification one way or the other...
It would be nice, if it's IS a name issue, to get notification, then I'd know to think of another name.... not wait 3 weeks, beyond the unknown time that it was rejected, when I could have had a perfect idea, 3 weeks ago...
You see the dilemna.. especially for 'first timers' here...
And, while not a programmer, I know how to set up autoresponders, or how to send a long form email, with just a couple of clicks... takes 10 seconds... anyone who can't spare 10 seconds isn't delegating well *evil grin*

Useless.
Read http://www.illarion.org/illarion/us_name_rules.php and you will know if your name is bad or good.
By the way, choosing a Name is the first step of getting an account. So you have to use your brain and not try until our automated system lets you pass.

Okay.. well.. the name I picked, I don't think it will be refused.. it's not.. shall way say.. ludicrous (if I spelled it correct)... I guess I just have issue with not being able to 'check something', to see if my request has even been noticed yet...
What is the automatic system going to be like? I had an idea, but if it's the same thing as what you all planned to do anyway, then there's little need for me to rehash something, even if it's prior to being said

There is NO automated system, and there will never be a real automated system.
Because you have to PROVE that you are able to find a fitting name by using your imagination, fantasy and reading-skills (name rules).
If there would be a auto-system, you could simply submitt names until it lets you pass.
Which poves nothing of the skills we want to see from you.
If you wrote "ludicrous" like you did it here, you are surely rejected.
(Due a lack of your reading-skills)

No.. the name isn't "ludicrous"... I was just concerned I hadn't spelled "ludicrous" correct... hence, the comment.. it was about that word, not about my choice of a name...Keikan Hiru wrote:There is NO automated system, and there will never be a real automated system.

And, as to the 'automated' comment... I can't find it now, but another gamemaster mentioned something being debated, but never explained it.. I was wondering if that was something being discussed among the game masters, or just one of them making an offhand comment..
And, Keikan.. I'm not sure if my comments, in general, are being misinterpreted as to their intention... I am not making attempts to speed *my* application along, by postings things, nor am I trying to change or offer change to how 'the collective "you" ' do things... I am simply trying to understand the process, and maybe help others, in the same boat as I (since I'm just like them, and haven't been in the game yet, so am an outsider, wondering what it's like)...
Regardless, I am curious why the hostility, and if it's because you think I lack intelligence, understanding of the game (which I have not been in yet, so have yet to have had a chance to get accustomed to the game's environment), or lack of roleplaying ability or the conceptual understanding of what it is... The last point, I won't mention anything more about, because it will seem as if I am trying to impress someone, or interject subliminal thoughts to aid my attempt at entry... but.. if I am misunderstanding your intention, behind your comments, please set me straight... I am not here to infuriate anyone, frustrate them, nor antagonize them will silly *expletive deleted*... and maybe I have a bad habit, from my time in the air force, but a common training tool is to ask a question, which you already have the answer to, but phrase it in such a way that when it is answered, it will answer the questions of the people you know to need it.. even if it makes you seem like a moron, at least the teacher gets to feel good about their imparting of wisdom, and you get to sit there and know that you did your part to teach, without taking that away from the teacher...
Okay.. and I'm rambling now.... but seriously.... I'm not trying to get on anyone's nerves, by what I say, and if I am: Outright tell me what it is that is doing so, so I can stop it, and be less of, or not a, mental or emotional burden on someone...
Keydokey... novel done for the day.. wasn't intended, but I noticed a few trends I had to address, even if nobody listens...
Trager.
