yes it shouldn't be like that but:

orcs = are in a town full of smart people so they become smart
halflings = maybe small but i dont see why they cant use magic if they are smart enought
elves = in a world where people cut down trees all the time kill pigs and sheep they are bound to think differently sooner or later

And thats why it is like that

Actually,elves DO cut down trees.

How else would elves make tools?

But true eles would not KIll the tree.....they would also replant a cut down tree.

Well you are acting like an orc now. You have no punctuation.

Korg, listen closely. This is a *role* playing game. *role* You are playing a *role*. You are playing the *role* of an orc. The game description says that orcs are not smart.

You, by playing a smart orc, are playing a very bad role. This makes you a bad role player.

Yes, there can be orcs smarter than the common, but this should be the exception rather than the rule.

And hobbits casting magic should bundle now and then as their spells backfire as their *role* says they do.

Plain an simple. An orc acting like a human is a bad role player.

No, a human who does not use punctuation is stupid. An orc who doesn't use it is....normal.

Argh... once again we have halflings who think they can take over the world...
Why can you not get it into your heads!?
A superfighter halfing should be about as likely as a dragon with flowery breath that would invite you for tea! If you absolutely must have a character who can bully the entire world with strength alone, then choose a race that is physically capable of it ffs.

bah!

From my observations, halflings in the game need the most change, considering it's not unusual these days to see a rune knight halfling wearing armor and carrying weapons several times their weight and size, slaying demons and being easily provoked in killing you. That is why halflings are the focus for now.

I understand this is an old post. I would just like to note that I very much disagree with that post. :)

Why would an orc observe the way a bunch of humans act in town?

Amen to that Mish, honestly, with the current lack of food, hot weather, a dress-making orc is more likely. Oh, not to mention the fact if you can find a non-master tailor halfling on the island is as plentiful as demons. Personally I wouldn't normally have a problem with this, but becoming a master in less than a month is well, thats for the gm's to decide, but selling hundreds of thousands of cloth/leather is insane. Please, you could not make 395,472,805,436,137,092 bolts of cloth out of one sheep.
And as for there being 34,579 pigs on the island is really beyond me. I sure wish the pigs/sheep were removed since the would die of malnurishment. Maybe a little exaggerated, but unless somebody has a huge store from before the drought , utterly impossible.

All you players who play hobbits...please read this link...so that bad roleplay of hobbits can be...prevented.

Please note the part where it says halflings are a laid back people that prefer a talk over a fireplace with some food...note also where it says they are a people that are refreshing to talk to due to their lack of concern of the future...a hobbit that threatens death is certainly not refreshing.

Note again the part where it says most hobbits make a living out of the earth...very few choose the path of excelling in a certain craft...this includes tailoring.

Elaralith, let the hobbits roleplay how they want. Hobbits are easily the hardest character to roleplay because everyone complains when you don't fit the typical hobbit. So please Elaralith, don't tell ANYONE how to roleplay their character.

It also seems like in the current game environment peaceful hobbits get picked on a lot. Especially by orcs and such (good RP on orcs part, I say).
Hobbit Players' frustration is understandable, somewhat, but then again, if you are choosing a hobbit to play - resort to other ways to solve problems besides battlemagic and murder.
Thanks.

It cannot be put more simply;
If you cannot play a halfling properly, then dont choose a halfling character... How hard can it be to understand?!

if you think about it the hobbits on this island have plenty of reasons to be aggresive and strong. They had a war with Darlok and with Grant. Hence they will not be the average hobbit that doesn't need to put up with people that want to make them slaves. For this I think they are fairly good roleplayers, to adjust and evolve their character.

Grant, you fail to understand.
Halflings could not possibly fight other races. Much less be master fighters. As has been stated before, they could be good with slings, but those aren't implemented.

If you look at a hobbit, give him a sword - thats nearly as big as him - How big a chance do you think he would have at swinging at you? Much less actually hurt you?

It should be physically impossible.

Furthermore, It has never been hear dof anywhere that halflings would be vicious and aggressive, which countless of illarion ones are.

i don't want to know how many halfings walk around in this game, wearring full armor, plate, knightboots, helmet and a waraxe. see, i really don't know why some halfingplayers think their halfings could use a WARAXE? or something else which is greater than the normal sword? and even a sword is like a twohanded sword for them. i think normal onehanded wepons greater than a shortsword should be carried two handed by halfings, but that is something for the proposalboard.

Who said that a halfling would want to buy a sword as big as them? they would something that fit their size. Just like they would buy clothing that fit them. And I can see halflings buying armor that fits them when they have had to fight for their freedom twice in less then a year.

and of course a waraxe for halfing is as good as a normal waraxe? ar, comeon, ya cannot be seriuos with that. see, a waraxe can hit something two areas away, and a waraxe for halfings should do that too? and a sword for halflings are just like great daggers for a elv, dwarf, human.

I am also sick and tired of seeing all these warrior/mage halflings. If you don't want to be stepped on by the other races then don't play a halfling. A halfling should think of other ways to get out of trouble rather than fighting - such as paying their way out or using tricks and being sly and cunning. They should only fight when cornered and there are no other options; not shouting out death threats at the slightest provocation. Kind of like a snake - it will run from you if it can but if you get it cornered then you are in big trouble.

There absolutely should not be any halfling body guards or assasins. What respectable human or elf would pay a halfling to be their body guard or assasin?

One point to support the halflings though. There is nothing wrong with halflings wearing full plate or using any weapons if they choose to. A blacksmith would make the armor to fit them just as they do the dwarves. And halflings can be very good at fighting. Just because they are a peaceful race does not mean they cannot be good at fighting. They just shouldn't use their fighting skills at the slightest little insult. Take for example the monks in Chinese civilization. They are among the most peaceful people on earth yet they are also among the most deadly.

You know, most halflings i know use short swords, which they get used to and get strong. Can they farm with the drought? No. Can they Do carpentry, blacksmithing, not really. Sure some know where to find proper herbs but even that costs alot to get stared, 7 gold per bottle. Halflings have to learn to fight to a degree to earn money. The drought takes away their natural hobbies.

@Went - That would be a fine explanation if the halflings were "normal" before the drought. Truth is, halflings have always been one of the most vicious races in this game and without any valid rp reason whatsoever.

@Grant - Dear grant, once again I tell you, It would be impossible for a halgling to fight properly with another race. They simply do not have the strength required to knock an opponents sword around. much less penetrate armour.

In my eyes, vicious super fighting halflings are an epitome of horrendous rp.

Well, when was the last time it was physically possible for a halfling to take down a huge demon on his own without using a firesword and knights shield? Never, actually, until I came across that Rustas guy.

They can be good fighters, but they are physically limited. As the dwarf pointed out, a one handed blade is two handed for them; a dagger is a one handed sword, and so on.

As for the war, the halflings could've easily set some booby traps around the town (requesting that they RP it, that is), or fled, or built some shelter to get away from Darlok; but no, it was easier for them to wear full plate with a knights shield in both arms.

What are talking about Bloody Moon? They couldn't have done anything other then fight in Darlok's war and guess what, they did pay Darlok off. So before you start running your mouth off find some information about the topic you are talking about.

@mishrak, do you have any clue how many times the hobbits would be conquered if they roleplayed the way you want them to? Do you think they would be saved from other people? Do you think if they couldn't fight that any would care ingame? I don't think so, I think most would want them to be slaves, and that would not be fun. And again, none of you have the right to tell anyone how to roleplay, so just stop.
That right is reserved for the GMs.

I'm not saying Halflings are useless grant. Merely, the things they excell in are not implemented. I doubt any other race whatsoever would be better with slings or evading attacks through stealth/agility than halfling.

Immagine this scenario though. An orc is defending himself with a sword. he parries, but most races could eventually have enough strength in the blow to knock the orc's sword aside and thus hurting him. That is how fighting usually works. A small halfling could never ever hope to achieve such an effect, nor could they possibly block an incoming heavy thwap by a sword. They simply do not have the strength nor the weight to put enough force behind the blow. on the defensive, a heavy armour would only limit the halfling.

Given all descripitions of halflings ever made, it's known that they are nimble and fast, and thus avoid attacks instead of blocking them. As such, any melee weapon and any heavy armour would be more of a problem than a solution to any halfling who could roleplay half decently.

Doing what they do now simply is not possible given the rules of physics and roleplaying, and thus is very very poor rp.

And I'm not telling people how to roleplay, merely enlightening them on the restrictions. This silly business is about as rp realistic as a flying dwarf or a swimming orc.
