Caught by Ghosts of the Past

Post by Konstantin K »

Konstantin wanders through a dark street, as usually, at night. He feels way more comfortable when no one is around, and he can enjoy the silence of the sleeping town. The sound of sleeping souls and resting buildings...

He walks out of the southern gates and exists the town, heading for the docks. As he reaches to shore, he sits on the sand, putting his camping bag and equipment beside him. He leans over the waves of water, looking into them, like in a living mirror. With a feeling of slight fear, or disgust, he opens his hood to himself a little, and once again sees a young face with old eyes, scarred over the right side. He is thinking of the past, of how he ended up on the Gods Forsaken islands... he remembers how he disassembled his little boat as soon as he reached to land... his thoughts shift to Malinne's absence, possibly, and quite probably, death.
He closes his eyes, but very soon he jumps up, like he was stung by a needle.
A sound.
Konstantin hides back into his hood, and contracts, like a rabbit.
He heard a sound.
A sound he had already heard before, a slight cracking sound of distant lightning, yet so close. He looks around, frightened, he cannot understand which side the sound is coming from. Sound of thunder, but no rain or clouds.
Knowing what will happen in the next couple of seconds, he reaches for his equipment, trying to take something long, sticking out of the bag, wrapped in a roll of hard dark cloth. He tries to unwrap it, but it gets too late.

Lightning strikes a couple of yards away from him, as the white shiny window of a portal opens. The explosion throws Konstantin several feet back, he lands on his side.

Out of a portal comes a gigantic, 7 feet tall, great warrior, all embraced in black heavy knight armor, with a huge helmet on his head, with two hornlike blades on it. The helmet only has a thin opening in it, through which two red eyes glow menacingly. The knight has a five feet long two-handed sword, the blade as wide as an average human's head.
As the portal closes, Konstantin manages to catch a glance of a head of some sort of dragon-like creature. Clearly, the warrior used the animal as his ride, and just got off it. The portal closed, and the dragon became smaller, and further away, while the figure of the warrior became clearer and closer.

Konstantin knows the creature is beyond human measurements in all the ways. Being six feet five inches tall, the hooded man looks tiny compared to the broad shouldered warrior. K gets up as quickly as he can, and prepares for a battle, assuming the combat stance. He glances at his bag, and the long object wrapped in cloth. The bag is now behind the warrior's back.

The knight speaks evilly in a loud, low pitched, demon-like voice:

-Time to die, worm! Your sentence will be executed now.
-Two months? Considering the distance, it took you long enough. Took me two minutes. You dogs are getting old, huh? - Konstantin replies, acting like he is not afraid.
-There is no escape, Konstantin!

The warrior raises his arms with the giant sword in his hands, and strikes the ground a foot away from Konstantin, who hardly manages to jump away. The knights size doesn't prevent him from being fast.
Konstantin's last back up plan is to take out his daggers and spin them continuously in front of him, trying to create upfront defense.

The next blow of a sword hits the blades of thin silverdaggers with hundreds of sparks. Surprisingly, the daggers withstand the hit. On the other hand, Konstantin's shoes go half a foot into the ground under the weight of the blow.
Konstantin tries to find a spot between the plates, but there is no such spots.
Without much talking, the warrior dodges Konstantin's attack, blocking the daggers quickly with his sword, and strikes again. The blade hits Konstantin's chest with its flat side, sending him flying fifteen yards away, into the water. The giant runs like crazy towards him, making loud splashes with his huge knees, hitting water.
Konstantin dives to avoid another blow. He coughs under water, holding on to his chest, and notices that a red cloud of blood is coming out of his mouth, mixing with water.
He gets back up, and barely ducks to avoid a strong swing of the giant's sword. He attacks again, but the warrior smacks both of Konstantin's hands with his left elbow, and the silverdaggers fly loose back to the shore, landing in sand. The knight kicks Konstantin in the head with his metal-embraced foot, and the hooded one falls down, crawling away, up to his neck in water, towards the shore.

-You will return to Maeva with me now to face your execution!

Konstantin crawls on his all four, finally reaching his daggers, as the warrior advances towards him.

-My orders are not to kill you, but to bring you back.
-No one is going back!!! - Konstantin shouts and coughs blood. His eyes glow weakly grey and he looks faint and stumbling. - You fool! The Island's magic doesn't let you open portals back from it!!
You're stuck in here.
The giant man seems unsure of himself for a moment.
-You like that, huh? Tell me you didn't know. The structure of magic energies inside this island blocks any other magic from outside. No one is going back!
-You little!!!... - The warrior turns around and raises his hand, unfolding his fingers. Konstantin rushes to his bag, as he hears the cracking sound of thunder, and the portal's gates opening again, summoned by the knight.
Konstantin looks surprised, but doesn't lose time. He opens his bag and grabs a bottle of glowing liquid from its pocket. He drinks it, and his eyes light up strongly again. He grabs the long wrapped piece from the bag, and runs as fast as he can towards the knight. As the cloth from the long object flies off, it revels a strangely designed sword with a silver handle.
Konstantin pushes the warrior back with all his might, simultaneously trying to hit the opening in his helmet with a tip of his sword, but ends up missing, and bouncing off the knight and falling on his back.
The knight steps forward, and, having to defend himself, puts his summoning hand down, grabbing the sword again.
Konstantin smiles, still spitting blood.

-Bye, mate.

The portal, having its feedback cut, starts to close again, and consumes the warrior, sucking him in, and shrinking.

-Oh shite! - Konstantin coughs and whispers to himself. - I be damned, who the hell is that. The hugest I ever saw... Holy ... How did he do that. If he can, why can't I? Why desn't the stone work? - He looks at the stone on his neck.
Konstantin now realizes how badly hurt and tired he is, he looks at his wound, and finds his chest as a one big bruise. He coughs again, and slips on the sand with his wet shoes, also realizing, that a bone or two are broken, luckily on his right, already injured side.
Rapidly, he picks up his weapon, wraps it back, gathers his things in the bag, grabs it, sheathes his daggers, and runs away, away, in the chopped down woods.

-Damnation... How did he? Why doesn't the Annathema Stone work?
Anyway, I have a week or so before they can do it again... The distance is quite large. But they are becoming better at it. I need to hide. Something helped them track me down precisely... Hide.

Konstantin reaches the Southern gates, and simply passes out, falling on his back, beside a wall, just a couple of feet from the gates. He is unconscious, but the night is temporarily providing a good cover for his black clothings...

Aradhul is walking slilently through town he is sliding from shadow to shadow. He searches the night intently for any unknown forms that may appear. His ears a pricked up for any sound that may tell of the presence of any enemy. As he walks he seems to be turning south for an unknown reason. As he reaches the South gate he nearly misses the black bundle on the ground. Watching from the shadows he begins to study the black bundle his elven eyes opening neary every detail to him. Realizing it is a living creature he looks around for a trap. Seeing no signs of an impending disaster he leaves the shadows. Drawing his blade he goes to investigate who it is.

As Aradhul reaches the body of the unknown soul he grips his blade tighter in his hand waiting for a trap to be sprung. Upon reaching the body Aradhul detects regular breaths. He thinks to himself Regular breaths mean one of two things sleeping or unconscious. He turns the body over and looks at the face recognizing Konstantin.

Hmm this is a strange thing to see Konstantin laying in a bloody heap and unconscious.

Aradhul bends down and puts his knife away. Picking up Konstantin as if he was a child Aradhul returns to the shadows and whispers

Something has happened and it is very strange. If Konstantin is so bloody he must have gotten into a fight and by the judge of the absence of blood on the daggers his attacker is still around. I shall take him to a somewhat safe place.

Aradhul exits town at the north gate and heads to a place that is both secret and safe

Walking in the dark with only the moon and stars to light the way Aradhul treads in the cut down forest. Carrying Konstantin begins to try on Aradhul's strength. He finds a small circle of trees and lays Konstantin on the ground. Aradhul lights a small fire that gives off little light with some flint and steel. He takes out a small sickle about the size of a hand and leaves Konstantin by the fire and goes in search for the specific types of herbs that will help cure the wounds of Konstantin. Walking through the woods Aradhul uses the skill taught to him by a master of herblore to search out the spots were herbs grow. Seeing some likely spots Aradhul bends down and begins to take the small portions of herbs that grow in the area. Gathering enough herbs for the time being Aradhul returns to the fire and Konstantin. He quickly checks on Konstantin and finds him still unconscious. Taking out a small bowl from his bag he begins to grind up the herbs. Mixing the porpotions to exacting measures he makes a small mixture to clean and stop the bleeding of wounds.

A quick fix for now Konstantin and once we get to a safer place we will see what can be done.

As he mixs the herbs he also takes out a small smoked fish and eats it as he works. Finishing with the mixture Aradhul with draws a small dagger and using it to apply the mixture he covers Konstantins wounds. It takes him a little while to complete his work. Aradhul Puts out the fire and scatters the ashes as to not show their presence. Aradhul use a skill that only elves can truely master he covers up the tracks and makes ready to get underway again

After finishing the clean up of the resting site Aradhul once again picks up Konstantin and continues to walk. After an hour or two of marching he reaches his destination. It is the meeting place that few ever go to. Aradhul lays Konstantin in a bed of ferns and walks back to town to gather more supplies

K suddenly awakes in ferns. First emotion - fear. First thought: "I'm not where I was! Alert!"

He jumps up on his feet and moves his arm, but a strong impulse of pain makes him heavily sigh through his teeth, calm down, and grab his right hand.

"How long? Where am I? Where's my bag? Where is Dermott?" -

Konstantin looks around and up. He touches his chest - still in pain, but he looks at his wounds to see them somewhat treated. He looks himself over, trying to investigate his body condition. "An elf." - K concludes by the signs of applied medicine, "Possibly a friendly one. Assuming brought me here."
K checks his pockets, dagger holsters, nothing taken; he finds his small bag near the place where he woke up, all its contents in place, picks it up, puts it on his back.

"Two possible explanations: someone found me and left, or I walked unconscious. Knowing myself, the second is unlikely. I think I should leave as soon as possible. I am becoming too easy to find."

Izzak soon walks into view and watches Aradhul. Looking at Aradhul, he hopes to spot a bag. It is too dark, so Izzak quickly runs back behind a tree.
