Retrieving the necklace

Post by Salathe »

Have hearing that after he fell off the boat... that veralion had picked up his necklace in the water then later, unknowing whose necklace it was, pawning to some drow merchants in Darishnia, Salathe heads out to the lizard shrine, looking to the statue, not feeling anything the way he used to. Now, only have been able to feel simple things, seeing light and dark all as blurs, not beauty, feeling touch and pain, not softness or toughness, hearing words, not voices, smelling nothing, feeling no feelings, no happiness nor anger, tasting almost nothing for the past few weeks Salathe now sets out to retrieve his necklace so all will be back to normal again.

He looks at the statue one last time, feeling nothing, he looks a way and jumps into the water and begins to swim rapidly to the east...

After haveing travelled all night and in the early morning he reaches Darishnia. As he emerges from the water, he recognizes the town from the last time he had come. Figuring that it will be quite easy to locate the drow merchants he enters the town and heads for the market. Walking into the market he looks around to see a large amount of people at different stands trying to barder with merchants. Being in the large crowd is confusing for Salathe, he had never seen so many people, and at such an early time, he couldnt find his way, he was confused at much that was happening in his mind, and even wondering why a drow would choose the trade of market.

As he was looking around he catches a quick glimpse of the emblem of his hometown. Knowing that the emblem of his hometown lays on his necklace, he looks around, not knowing the exact direction where he saw it at, since he had only seen it for just a split second. He sees it again, but still cannot pinpoint where it is exactly, but he heads in the direction he saw it. With all the confusion in his head being caused by the large mass of people around he has quite a hard time concentrating. But after walking in the direction he saw the emblem he reaches a stall with 3 elves standing in it, and behind he sees many many items laid out on a table, and some hanging from above, and some scattered around behind them, these merchants although being drow, are quite succesful at collecting items. One of the items in the back of the stand was his necklace. When he sees it there he approaches the stall.

"Lizard, would you be interested in buying some fine lizard crafted armor? It is one of the few things your kind wear."
Asks the drow as he sees Salathe
"And that halberd you carry... you wouldnt be interested in selling that, would you?."

Salathe looks at the drow and says
"Not can sell... or not does want buy lizard armor. But do wants buy necklace... that necklace, in back"
Salathe not saying that the necklace is his, because the drow would sell for more knowing that Salathe would want it more than any regular customer that just sees it.

"Ah, fine choice. This was brought in not too long ago, it is to be a fine lizard craft, fine indeed... This could be yours for... Oh lets say about a dozen gold ignots and maybe 7 silver ignots."
The drow goes back and takes the necklace tot eh front of the stall

Salathe looks into his bag, only had bringing 10 silver, not thinking that his necklace would be worth so much, since it is worthless to anyone but himself
"Is too much money! How can sell for so much? Is only a neckless."
Being so close to the necklace, he can feel the emotion of wanting it, and when not getting it, can feel anger.

"Yes but none of us have seen anything like it before, for all we know this could be an ancient artifact of lizards."

"Not is artifact, is mine! Had lost and friend sells it. But he no did know was I necklace. Can sell less? Not is use for elf."

The drow grins at this
"Oh? Some friend that would pawn ones own necklace. Well, selling for less wont make us any profit, and we do not care about you not getting it."

Salathe slams his fist on the table
"But is mine! No peoples will buy worthless necklace!"

The drow laughs at Salathe
"Hahaha. We arent going to tell anyone its useless, we are going to wait until someone comes thats interested in it, we will say that its an artifact, and make a profit. And profits are what we need, and you are not one, so leave."

Salathe bringing up his halbred, grasps it with both hands

The drows all begin to laugh even more at Salathe, now drawing a crowd as to figure out why these elves are laughing at the lizard
"Hahahaha. You wish to fight us? Here? now? Hahahaha. You are most certainly an unintelligent creature, If you were to attack us here, what would be the point? To get your necklace? At what cost. You wouldnt be able to get away, look at all the witnesses that surround you, and gaurds are everywhere! Now leave our sight you pathetic lizard."

Salathe lifts his grasp, and looks around at the crowd, and just walks away since there is nothing else to do.

He reaches a nearby tavern and sits at the window... waiting for the drows to leave, as when he will follow them and take back his necklace, no matter how hard it seems

Now night was beginning to fall, the crowd had gotten smaller from the afternoon crowd, but was still bigger than the morning crowd. Salathe had noticed many men coming from a days work trying to make a pocketful of money for what they did that day. Salathe still keeping an eye on the drow stall, sees another drow come to the other 3. He whispers something in their ears and the begin to pack everything up, including the necklace. Salathe stands up as he sees each drow pulling a wagon full of barrels.

Staying in the shadows he follows them down the streets. Soon they had left town and headed into the forest. Salathe waits until they have a good distance from himself, then he begins to follow them again, staying hidden under the darkness of the trees. They walked a long ways, and it was much trouble keeping up since Salathes eyes had gone blurry ever since he had fallen off the boat, and elven eyesight is so much better than lizard eyesight.

Atlast the drows stopped and let go of there wagons, and said something, but Salathe couldnt understand it. Then from out of nowhere several more drows appeared adn started to unload the barrels and seemed to be walking some down somewhere. When all the barrels were unloaded the 3 drows brought the wagons a ways from there current location and hid them and came back and somewhere out of sight. Salathe stayed where he was, hiding behind a bush waiting to see if there were any more drows about. Not seeing any he approached with caution. He came to where he last saw them and looked around at the ground. Hoping he could find an entrance to underground hideout or anything as to wear they went. While walking around he steps on something, a switch he thought. And as it turns out, a trapdoor opens up with steps leading down underground with torches on the side of the wall.

As Salathe walks down he starts to notice that everything is soon made of rock and not of wood. When he reaches the bottom he peeks around the corner to see he is now in a cave. Now confused that a cave would be laying under a forest he grabs a torch and runs back up and looks around for any sign of rocks. As he is looking he sees none then turns around to see a large cliff hanging over top of him. Salathe had not known that there was a cliff anywhere near the town, and he started to think how far away from town he was. Either way it doesnt matter, his necklace is in the cave. So he heads back down and peeks around the corner to see an ungaurded corridor, and thus, he begins his search of the drow cave.

Salathe starts romaing the cavern, silently, trying to follow the drows voices. Not after too long he had lost them, not know at all where he was, he started to feel he should of took more precautions, like bringing some food. Now with his mind set on food he begins to search for some. While walking through tunnels he starts to think he is no longer in a cave, since now the floor is amde up of wooden planks, and the walls with brick, and the ceiling is arched with supports going up, and he begins to wonder if he is still underground or in some quite large house, but he had not seen any windows so he believed he was still underground. He enters many rooms filled with boxes or barrels, and he looks in certain ones, some are filled with raw materials, some with tools, some with armor, and he begins to think that there are alot more than just 4 drows, and are occupied in much more than just merchandiseing.

Soon he starts to hearr many voices and laughter. Salathe follows to sound to what he believed to be a dining room. As he comes to the large dining hall he sees dozens of drows at many tables. He estimates atleast a hundred of them are there. Now seeing they have food he begins to think of ways to get some. He thinks about disquising himself as a drow, but he knew he couldnt pull it off, if someone talked to him then he wouldnt be able to responf or his cover would be blown. So Salathe decides to see if there is a way to get to there kitchen, hoping they have a kitchen, he sneaks through the hallway behind some barrels till the opening to the dining hall is out of sight.

While walking down the hallway he feels a sharp pain on his foot and he looks down and sees that he was caught... by a mousetrap. Cursing under his breath he takes it off his foot, and the piece of bread set on the mouse trap. Not quite satisfied with the bread, and the slight pain from the mouse trap he decides to look for a rat or mouse to eat, why would they put a trap out if there wasnt anything to catch. As he looks around hallway he sees a trail of breadcrumbs leading to a dark corner. Salathe takes a torch off the wall and bring it to the corner too see another mousetrap.

As Salathe bends down to get the bread he hears lots of movement coming from down the hallway, and he realizes that all the drows must be done with dinner. Quickly Salathe puts the torch back and runs into a room nearby. Watching the hallway through the the crack he left open in the door he sees a group of 10 drows or so walk by, he closes it some but still leaving a little crack so he can still see them. One of the drows notice the door is open a bit so he walks up to it and closes it. Salathe, not knowing the drow was coming is knocked back and falls on his back. As he rubs his head a mouse climbs on top of. Salathe licks his lips as he looks at the rat crawling on his face.

Salathe hastly tries to grab the rat, but he wasnt be able to put his hands on it and it crawls away into a hole in the wall. Salathe lays on his belly and looks at the hole. He thinks for a little bit then puts his hand in and sees if he can grab it. Not feeling anything he gets up. Now being tired he wants to go to sleep, but he's still hungry. He goes to the other trap he found in the corner and takes the mouse trap and brings it to the room he was just in and places it next to the hole in the wall. Feeling drowzy he decides to go to sleep. He looks around for a place that would be a safe place to sleep at.

He leaves the room he was in, since there was not a place to sleep at and be safe at. Then sneaks through the hallway and reaches to where he's in a cavern again. Now Salathe begins to wonder how long this has been around.... and who made it, dwarves he thought, then taken by drows. Putting his mind back on a place to sleep he begins to look around and sees that the room he is in is quite tall. As he looks up he sees many ledges and figures no one would find him up there. Salathe quickly starts to climb up the wall until he reaches a small little grove on the cavern about 20 feet up. He crawls as far in as it goes and decides that is would be quite safe, no one would find him all the way up here.

Salathe awakes to the voice of some drows in the room he is in. He rubs his eyes trying to get fully awake and rubs his back, since it was not a smooth surface. He brings his head to the edge and looks down at the two drows

"Wheres the merchandise from yesterday? We got some good new metals i would like to work with."

The second drow points down a tunnel
"That way, a little ways past the jail, you should see all the boxes and barrels stacked up."

"Ah, and didnt they put in a new workshop?"

"Yes. Its right next to where we put the merchandise we get, but it will be inspected to see if we got it this time."

"Its taking to long to find..."

"Be patient, we will find it in do time."

Salathe hearing that all the items he saw yesterday at the stall arent to far away gets excited, almost going now but he waits a little bit until the coast is completly clear. While he waits he starts to think what the "it" they were talking about was... maybe there was more than them just being merchants. Salathe leaves his halberd in the grove, it would be to much of an encumberment to sneak around with. Salathe climbs out onto a small thin ledge and walks against the cavern wall to above the wooden hallway which he entered in. He climbs down face first, and peeks down the hallway to see no one there, then he look down the tunnel on the opposite side, to also see no one that way, he flips down and check the last tunnel in the room, to see no one there... again.

Quickly after leaving the cavern to the wooden hallway he gets behind some more barrels and sneaks from piles to piles. Once reaching the room where he left the rat in he looks in the rat almost dead under the mousetrap. Salathe grins as he runs to it and opens the trap and takes the rat and eats it. Salathe being filled, but not to his satisfaction, but it gave him enough to not be bother by his hunger for much longer. Walking out of the room he looks down both ways, and sees the dining hall again. But this time, no voices or laughter. Still a bit hungry, and quite thirsty, he heads down to the dining hall.

He walks up the large entrance and looks in, seeing no one he proceeds a bit further in for a better look at it. Seeing no one at all in the dining hall he runs in and goes to the double doors and peeks in. Immediately he recognizes the room as a regular kitchen. Salathe grins and walks in and begins to rummage through the shelfs and bags of food looking for something of his taste. He finds some loaves of bread and starts to eat it. Then he goes to a large keg of water and drinks the water straight from the barrel. Salathe starts to pick up some food and puts it in his bag.

As he begins to leave he hears a number of drows entering the room and the he jumps back against the wall and looks out through the small windows on the double doors and listens to them talk

"This work is tireing."

"Im sure chef wont mind if we go grab something to eat"

The drows head to the kitchen, and Salathe panics looking around for a place to hide. The door swings open and the drows come in and to there surprise...

They see no one and walk in to get food. Salathe, just before the drows had entered, lifted himself up inbetween the walls and held himself up above the door by pushing against the wall with his hands and feet. As the last drow entered Salathe moved his tail down to keep on of the double doors open, and as soon as the drows were farther in the kitchen he jumped down and left the room unnoticed.

Back in the grove he finishes eating a roll of bread, then gets ready to go search for the room that the drow had spoke of. He lifts up his dagger and grabs the bottom where the emblem of his hometown hangs on a chain. He pulls out a dagger that was conceled in the bottom, that Hagen had made for him when he customized Salathes halberd. Salathe leaving the halberd there again since it would be too hard to sneak around with, brings the dagger with his emblem hanging from the bottom of it.

He walks onto the ledge and does the same routine lookout check as before. Seeing no one he jumps down and head the way the drow pointed to before. After walling through the tunnel cautiously he sees a drow gaurd sleeping in a chair. He passes him silently, and looks into the room the drow was gaurding. It was the jail he heard the drows speak of. about half the cages were full, but not all with things hes ever seen before. Salathe quickly leaves and heads down to the room holding there merchandise from yesterday.

He sees a passage in the runnel hes in that leads to a room full of boxes and barrels. Observing them he wonders where to start looking. Before looking he decides to check if these are the items from yesterday. He takes the lid off a box and to his surprise he sees his necklace laying on top. He grins and picks it up, looking at it for a few seconds, then puts it on.

He drops his dragger and grabs his head in pain and falls to his knees. Trembling in pain he clenches his teeth, but then it dies down and he takes his hands off his head and puts them on the floor. He starts to breathe heavily. While Salathe is still on the floor a drow passes by and sees him, and he yells "Itruder!". He runs to Salathe and points his sword at him "dont move!". Salathe slowly stands up and turns to the drow. With looking at him, his eyes change from the dull light grey back to the bright blue they used to be, the tattoo that used to surround his eye forms again, the confused look is swiped away from his face and looks at the drow without fear, his stands up straight with confidence, not confusion. He bends over and picks up the dagger and as he rises back up the drow jumps forward and says "Dont move or i will kill you!".

Salathe cracks his head and grins at the drow. The drow rune towards Salathe with his sword sticking straight out, Salathe steps to the side evading the attack and sticks his dagger straight out sticking it into the drows chest. More drows come into the room and get immediately angered at seeing a dead drow on the floor. They all draw there weapons as Salathe taunts them with his dagger. One drow takes out a throwing knife and throws it like a dart at Salathe. The knife hits his dagger and it flies out of his hand into a crack in a pile of boxes. The drows laugh and charge at Salathe. Doing the same as he did with the other drow he steps out of the way of the first drown and instead of his dagger, he sticks his claws into the drows face and throws him to the ground and kneels down quickly and takes his weapon and as he brings it up, underhanded, its flies into the next drow, and Salathe lets it fly in the air a little bit and grabs it in the air, not holding it the correct way. The drows stop and look at him. One opens a large box full of weapons and pulls out a long axe. Salathe looks at the box, seeing 2 thin mithril scimitars, then looking at the drow with the long axe next to it. Seeing the drow is seperated from the others salathe throws his sword at him and runs towards the box, not seeing if it had hit him, which it didnt, the drow was just dazzled by the sword flying past his face. Salathe jumps over the box, flipping over he grabs the scimitars while hes over the box and brings them down onto the drows. Stepping on the dead drow he pulls the scimitars out of him, he looks at the others and says...

"I dont take kindly to drows..."

The drows, getting more aggrivated then before all rush at him. Swing both scimitars at the first drow he brings them in on each side of the drows neck, lopping his head of, then bringing them all the way in to form a V the next drow brings his sword down, but salathe blocks it with his scimitars still crossed together, then Salthe thrusts them forward, shattering the drows sword and closeing the scimitars at his neck, thus decapitating another drow. But then, as easy as Salathe ahd killed the first drow, a drow behind him bashes Salathes head with a giant club, and Salathe falls to the ground, and all goes black.

And when he comes too, he is laying in a very dark room, his hands are chained to the wall he is laying on, and his feet are chained to the floor. He looks at a window, that is barred, and realizes that he is jailed.

Salathe had stayed there five days, no food or drinks were brought to him, the drows had left him there to die, until something happened.

One day, as a drow was going into another cell to bring food to one of the other prisoners, the prisoners in the cell had attack the drow and overthrough the gaurds, and those prisoners had unlocked all cells and had gone into the larger ones and broken the chains of the prisoners. One of the prisoners helped Salathe up and pointed out where all the possesions of the prisoners were stored, then he ran off trying to get chance to get out of the caver. Salathe made his way to the room, slowly, he was weak from not eating or drinking for 5 days. He found the gaurds food and quickly ate all of it. With his new strength he quickly searched through the items until eh found his necklace.

He heard many loud voices, and screams, and people yelling to one another, witht he sound of swords clashing in the background. Knowing this is the best time to escape, in all the comotion, Salathe ran out and went to his grove in the cavern wall. He got his backpack on and took his halberd, then he remembered his dagger, it was still inbetween two boxes on the pile of boxes and barrels. He runs to the room where the merchandise is and searches between the boxes for it.

After finding it he puts it back into his halberd. When he was about to leave he saw something in one of the boxes. He picked it up and looked at it, and thought to himself "Hmmm.... this wwould be a good gift to bring back". As he put it into his pack he looked at the other boxes and grinned. Salathe now left the room with a bag full of items he foudn that many of his friends would like to have.

He did not get far until he ran into quite a large group of drows. The drows had some prisoners chained back up and were bringing them back to the jail.

"Theres one! Thats the lizard that was chained for murder!"
All the drows that werent holding a chained prisoner drew out there weapons

Salathe grasps his halberd and prepared for the battle. All the drows charged and Salathe swung out his halberd from the bottom with one hand keeping the distance between the drows and him. Salathe moves to the right pointing his halberd out at them and the drows move the left. Now Salathe being where the drows used to be, he turns around and starts to run down the hallway. The drows begin to chase him, realizing there mistake by letting him get to the other side. While Salathe was running another group of drows came down the way Salathe was running. Salathe stopped and looked at them, then he turned to the drows behind him. Salathe placed down his bag, and looked at the drows that blocked any way out.

The drows laughed then all charged in. When close enough Salathe swung his halberd in a full circle clsoe to the floor, tripping most of the drows. Salathe fighting both sides of drows, is slowly tireing and cant keep fighting. Slaying a drow when he lets himself open he fights on. But he sees more coming. Once he sees the others coming, and he is losing energy.

But then, the blade and shaft of his halberd starts to glow green with dark green vains flowing though it. Thanks to Hagen, who customized Salathes halberd with the lizard artifact of lizardstone. Lizardstone, a long lost lizard metal, which can still be found, but only by lizards, no other race has ever heard of it, when any other race sees it, it looks like any other normal metal, but to lizards its different, it helps lizards, but when and why, not even the wisest of lizards know.

So with his new given energy, he moves his halberd with lightning speed, in only seconds all the drows are all on the ground. Salathe looks at his halberd and says "Whoa.... it actually does do something". THe glow fades from it and he looks around. He sees a large group of prisoners running down the hallway screaming and yelling. They all run past him and he looks past them and sees a gigantic ogre chasing them. Salathe eyes widen and he turns around and sprints.

When leaving the wooden area and finding more cavern he follows the fleeing prisoners, remember his path, which they are following. After finally reaching the steps out, and getting onto the grass. Salathe lays down and takes a breather, as do many of the prisoners. But then the ground starts to rumble and the ogre breaks through the ground. The ogres roars, and grabs one of the near by prisoners and swallows him whole. Salathe, knowing not even with the lizardstone working he couldnt slay this beast alone, runs away into the darkness.

Salathe runs for a while until he no longer hears anything. Then he sticks his halberd in the ground and puts his backpack down and takes a deep breathe. Then he smiles, and begins to laugh.

"Ha.. haha... hahaha... i did it. Thats twice that drows have gotten in my way. And twice that ive beaten them."

Salathe picks up his pack and halberd and begins walking. After a while he begins to see light, and soon light starts to shine into the forest, he thought the sun was rising then he looked back and say that the forest was so thick behind him that no light what so ever showed in there. As he was walking out to the edge of the forest he climbed a tree and looked for the town. He wasnt to far, he had run the wrong direction, but atleast he made it out and its only about 30 or so minute walk.

Once he makes it to town, he gets something to eat, then makes it to the shore where he arrived and head backs to town.
