ah.. Im going to stick my neck out here and probably have it choped off at the shoulder, but Elaraliths last post speaks alote of truths. There does seem to be a double standards.
But on saying that, the people who do the good work of sorting through the names can not be expected to know every place, book/film character that ever was.

If Elaralith hadn't said Caranthir was a male elf's name in the book Sumirrilion (sorry for spelling) I would never have known. Also, how big of a part is Caranthir is that book? I read a few chapters of that book and don't remember Caranthir in it.
I would put up a defense for the other name she mentioned but I cannot remember it... Also, Firenze, does not sound like a name in the first place, where as Caranthir and the other person does sound like a name. Firenze? sounds like *fire-enz* does not sound like a name anyways.

The fact that both Caranthir and Fedaykin appear in another book and are there different things than in Illarion should not be a problem.
It is the person behind the screen, who has artificial need of bonding not the character. I give you an example.
You meet a person known as 'Jack' in your real life, then on second day you meet another 'Jack'. I take it that you wouldn't immediatly assume that the two Jack's act the same way and are completely identical?
Because that would be stupid, wouldn't it?

Maybe you should think about this:
Just because some writer took "Caranthir" as an elf it is still a good name for a dwarf. If you would not know the book you would think this too.
5. No names of well known persons from real life (RL) are allowed (gamemaster's decision)
well known persons from real life... are books persons? No.

I know that the diligent illarion staff who do the sorting can't be expected to know everything. That is why I brought this up to let them know. Now it is up to them to take fair action or offer an explanation.

Lol I like the way Elaralith said that. Elaralith, how do those names effect or bother your character? Because I am pretty sure that even though your character knows names of people who have never said their names before, she doesn't know names from Real Life books. Elaralith, I believe you are mixing OOC knowledge with IC.
Also, I cannot speak for everyone, but I will speak for myself. The names of Caranthir and Fedaykin do not bother my character.

Elaralith, Excuse me if I skip your 'bad Rp' arguments, since your fighting is nothing but 'Bad RP'.
Two shields, paralysis, run, fire.
Not to mention that you came back fighting after you died.
Good luck with preaching others about how to RP, if you can't obey your 'commandments' yourself.
Its funny how you didn't drop 'loose your connection' even with screen full of iceflames, but during the combat you did couple of times.

I think they are a little too strict on the name rules.
So what if a name comes from a book or movie. There are such things as more than one person with the same name.
And this thing with not accepting 4 and 5 letter names is a little overboard. There could be a lot of good names that are only 4 or 5 letters. Especially orc names. With their lack of intelligence they cannot give their children elaborate names like Methusala or Melchesadec. More like Gup, Tark, or Harg.
Don't misunderstad, I don't want to see any "Coolguy" "Bob101" "Darknight" walking around either. But this can be done without being quite so harsh.
