The Letter to Alun.

Post by Alice »

Alice sits in the library unaware of whatever Malinne and Lúthien are talking about. They aren't talking to her anyway she figures, so she begins to write a letter:

Dear Alun,

I am going away. I do not know how long I will be gone for. I'm going with Malinne, Cain and this elf lady named Lúthien. Malinne has been summoned by someone she used to know and she decided to take me with her. She is going to help me find my family and my home.

I would have told you this in person or wrote a letter just to you, but I wasn't sure if I would get to see you before I leave, and I couldn't just trust anyone to hand you this letter, so I'm posting it on the wall.

You are my favorite person on this island. You are kind and handsome and you're not that much older than me. It has been so nice knowing you and I'm glad I met you. I wish you luck while I am away and forever afterward. Thank you for being such a good friend.

I promise I will return to this island. It has become my new home. I only wish to return to my old home temporarily to find out if my father and my sisters are still alive. I have a bad feeling, but I still want to find out anyway.

I may or may not be gone by the time you read my letter, let alone correspond. I'll check the wall again before I leave just in case. I'll be in the library most of the time until we depart in the morning. I do have a feeling it may be postponed another day though. Don't ask me why.

I just want to let you know that I've fallen in love with you since I first met you. I hesitate to confess this to you because I didn't want to make my departure any harder than it already is. I also hope I'm not embarassing you by making this message public. I put it towards the end of the letter in hopes that people would get bored of reading this letter and stop reading before they get to that point. I can only hope my strategy works, I really don't want to embarass you.

Well, anyways, I'll miss you very much. I will tell you all about my voyage when I get back. Wish me luck, I'll need it.

I love you!

Malinne waits until Alice leaves to head back to the library before approaching the wall and beginning to read her message. After a couple of paragraphs Malinne stops reading and walks away taking a different route to get back to the library before Alice.

"Bah, this is just boring. Why was she acting so secretive about this? she asks herself as she leaves.

Alun wanders about the town, restless. He cannot sleep, for he feels something in the pit of his stomach that someone he cares for deeply will soon be far away. He passes by the town wall several times, checking the messages and hoping to pass by Alice, but to no avail. On his final pass, he discovers the letter addressed to him. He thoroughly reads it and smiles widely, a greater smile he has never executed. Though, he is saddened that he will not see Alice for a while, and will miss her greatly, he is happy to know that they share mutual feelings.

"YAHOOOO!" Alun cries out loudly, noticeable to most people awake in the town at this hour. He quiets down and wanders about again, searching for Alice, unsure if she has left yet.

Alice takes a quick look before she leaves to see if Alun responded to her letter. Seeing that he didn't, she catches up to the same group of people headed to Lúthien's boat.
