yes, you are right. But I really don't know, how to detail the texture.
It gets blur and dirty, because I have to fit it in this little size!
I set Antialiasing to Extreme but nothing changed...
There are several possibilities to find a good way to create a texture, just use your brain:
1) Look at torches you like in other games (e.g. by starting the game or by search using images.google.com or www.google.com)
2) Find out what material they actually were made of (by using the correct keywords in google)
3) search a book in your library and look it up
4) ...
pasting the lantern on the screen shot of illarion and same for the torches. so on. you started that with the example with the potion and the cristal and the raft(what's up with the triangular sail) and was there one more thing? Damn my short term memory and like of ability to describe when i write. Good talker bad writer
This is something that I consider totally natural and usual for everyone who is involved with graphics in some kind. Whoever never had the idea to do this probably wastes his or her time by reading this board.
Its like telling someone who wants to write that he should try to bring "some letters on paper" by writing or printing.
That's nothing a graphical artist should be told, it's something he should know by THINKING. (Thinking=using the brain)
Creating graphics has a lot to do with thinking, observing and knowing your environment and surrounding and knowing a plenty about physics and painting.
One thing that no game ever seems to consider when drawing torches, is that they give off a tremendous amount of smoke.
A torch is a very simple device. You take a stick, wrap some cloth around it, soak the cloth in oil and light it. Works on the same principle as a candle, where the wick burns much slower than the wax that is consumed.
I've made a torch twice in my life when I needed light, and one time I made an oil lamp (The oil lamp almost burned down the trailer of a friend I was visiting at the time, and for some reason he wouldn't let me use it anymore, but it did work <g>).
The oil used was any type of burnable oil such as animal fat, vegtable oil, etc.. Just no petroleum. Those oils are not clean burning at all, and when archeologists visit ancient caves they can see soot on the ceilings from the torches used.
So when you draw flames on a torch, I think you should draw some smoke going up too to add a flavor of realism.
Actually, the Egyptians lined their pharoes tombs with a form of crude plutonium, thats why the tomb guards wore all that gold, it protected them from the "curse" so radioactive material was known back then they just thought it was a metal of the gods and they used it to curse people, thats why when you wanted somone dead, you gave them a cursed item made of this metal, and they would die from radioactive exposure.
