Lumberjacking

Post by Draakon »

I tried searching alot and could find nothing I promise, perhaps I am just no good at it but here is my proposal for a small yet rather major change in lumberjacking.

What if...you could use an axe on a tree 2 times and get 2 logs before the tree becomes a trunk?

The first chop leaves the tree looking the same (or a graphic of a more thin looking tree..but that means more work) second chop makes it look like a chopped tree does now.

In my opinion this would do two good thing or one good and one bad thing :D

1st: It is possible to gather wood without leaving the forrest looking totally ruined, it looks horrible and I am sure many a elf has been depressed greatly walking thru the massacred remains of what was a forrest (it just looks so horrible)
2nd: For those who do not really care about the forrest getting logs would be easier and so the price would be lower (I hear alot of people complain that economy for logs is messed up)

Problem is I am unsure if it would make things too easy and maybe make economy for wood even worse (as in too cheap?) so I am kind of looking for some opinions and constructive critisism :)

woods

I like it, I lumerjack quite a lot and elfs usually yell at me for destroying the forest. with your idea the forest would not look like a mess and lumberjacks would not get yelled at as much. The economy is all ready ruined, who wants to pay 3 gold for a logg??

Something like this was proposed before.
Your system would be to easy, A new Charakter needs the same time to get 250 Wood like a new character needs to get 250 Ore and Coal. But the most people buy Wood for 4 G. And Ore and Coal only for 1.

Selling wood is one of the easiest way to earn money for newbies later if you get better in mining the difference is not so drastic.

In my Eyes, this Proposal goes in the wrong direction, it makes Lumberjacking too fast.

Work should (and will) become more Time consuming.

I think you should choose a Tree and your Character will start lumberjacking.
Depending on his Skills/Attributes he will gain some Wood after a preset period of Time.
If he is good, he might gain 2 logs of Wood. If he is bad he wont gain any useable Wood.

If the Tree is "chopped down" after this might also depend on your skill.
A new Lumberjack will waste many wood to get some Logs, a used lumberjack wont wast that much wood but still gains logs.

complicated

Post by Hades »

isn't that a bit complicated?? But I like the idea. so some people will be happy from no more forest destructions and you can pick out who can not lumberjack.

Well i don't particullarly like draakon's idea, but i did have one of my own  Maybe you chop down the tree, it falls on the ground, then you chop it into logs. Oh boo hoo a fallen tree graphic should be easy for the gfx pro martin

that would work too, but the elves would be mad at the lumberjack for chopping down trees.

This may seem like a waste, and may be odd concidering I am an Elf. When someone starts a campfire, anyone notice that they only need to use one log? In real life you would have to add a couple peices of wood for a camp fire, so you should have to use 4 or 5 pieces on the same spot in the ground and than be able to start a fire. Also you should be able to add wood too the fire to keep it going, maybe one or two pieces so you dont have to waste so much wood starting a new fire. Plus, who in their right mind would wait til the fire is out THAN start a new one.. no one!

freo, you can light a fire, place logs on-top of that fire and start another fire, and you get 6 ash. This is handy so people don't think your trying to burn down a building. Well i forgot a part, you chop down the tree, the fallen tree is on the ground, you have to chop it up (use axe with fallen tree which takes up more space, you get a certain amount of logs).
This way multiple people could chop up trees, and maybe a logging business would be born? I notice we don't have a quarry business either, pity. I was thinking about starting one.

Well it was just an idea to keep the forrests looking somewhat alive, right now it is not really that bad cause very few actually go lumberjacking also making it easier would lower the price for wood and somewhat restore the trading. I agree with Darlok as well that it should actually be made harder and more advanced but that just feels a long way into the future. It would be an easy and quick solution although those usually never really work out like they should  Oh well...I still think the woods need some help from the one chop kill.

I agree, who needs one tree to start a small campfire, or to make a bow?
