From my understanding, magic isn't the forte of such races as hobbits or dwarves; unfortunately, I've seen no change in the amount of battlemage hobbits and dwarves that I see each day, and there are not many who actually roleplay those races correctly.

Normally, when I think hobbit, I think of a small, friendly, non-adventurous creature that loves food. Instead, I always come across bloodthirsty little meanies that don't mind practicing ice bolts on you.

Dwarves from what I see don't have the same problem, except that the magic they do doesn't have anything to do with smithing, and is actually used in battle rather than their hammers or swords. Moonsilver.de is the site for all of this information, as you may know.

I suggest that, if somebody were to choose a hobbit or a dwarf, their intelligence level would be very limited so the trend in magical hobbits and dwarves is cut to a minimum (for example, 5 is the maximum or something).

I know what one would be thinking; but hobbits are clever, and some dwarves are pretty damn smart! Why should we limit the intelligence?

Because, intelligence only has to do with mana and magic at the moment I believe. It doesn't effect how you speak and think in-game. After all, the roleplaying shouldn't be based on stats.

Any thoughts?

And i say, why do you always speak from halflings and dwarfes? What is with lizards and orcs?
Do you realize, that in this game haflings are more intelligent than orcs, dwarfes and lizards? So where is the problem, if they use magic? I know the description of a hafling say, they aren´t so talented like humans and elves, but there is nothing written down that they can´t use magic or dislike it.

Actually Fieps, Halflings are NOT more intelligent than Dwarves or Lizards.
Perhaps more magic-talented than they, but intelligent no.

My opinion as player is that Halflings should not generally be involved with magics.

I don't think that halflings, dwarves should have their intel stats lowered...that wouldn't make sense because intelligence measures many things besides magic.

But he is right you know Fieps...such races as dwarves (who if Rped well hate magic) should not be going around acting like an Archmage.

I think some programming other than lowering the intelligence needs to be done...something like a filter that would make it so that only certain races can choose the mage class... (I think this may be coming out when the vocation system does...)

But if something should be done about magical dwarves n halflings then we deffinately also need less friendly orcs. This makes absolutely no sense, and it has been mentioned time and again. People just don't seem to see anything wrong with a polite and articulate orc who doesn't kill at the drop of a dime. I for one would also like to see more inter racial attitudes, as it is well known Orcs and elves/dwarves absolutely loathe each other. In this game however they are all happy and merry friends. This is even more disturbing than a magic wielding dwarf or cutthroat halfling.

max int dwarf, orc, lizard = 17, hafling - 18

To reduce the intelligence of some races can´t be the solution for this problem, there exist other ways. For example, specific magic spells for each race, and of course elves or humans will have stronger spells then other races.

An idea would be to simply lower the succes rate of non-magical races when casting magic. Like the race descriptions say, you can never be sure what will happen when certain races like that cast magic. This way they wouldn't be 'stupid' according to their attributes, but they still couldn't use magic well.
Hopefully I'll be able to lower the GKQ (general kindness quotient) with my new orc character, assuming the GMs let me have 4 characters.

According to Moonsilver.de, lizardpeople don't generally do magic, although the few who do are very talented in it. This is why their intelligence should probably be about as high as hobbits...after all, it makes sense that lizardpeople who are usually very talented in magic are equally intelligent to the hobbits that aren't so talented.

I'm not sure if intelligence affects anything besides mana and/or magic spells, but lowering the success rate sounds like a good idea...SOMETHING should be done, nobody can possibly defend any reason why most of the hobbits in here are warmages.

(I have a hobbit character, so yes, I am speaking from the vantage point of a hobbit.)

I don't think each race should have their own specific spells, I just think hobbits and/or dwarves should be limited in some way or another...

The orcs, unfortunately, the game can't control how they act and think...so how we would fix the problem of tea-sipping, sophisticated, friendly orcs is beyond me. I'd say, Mishrack, it's equally disturbing as a cutthroat hobbit, although magical dwarves aren't that distrubing...they can still do magic, but it must have to do with smithing I hear.

Actually, I hear that hobbits are just very dangerous with magic. Any suggestions on this statement?

I only found limiting intelligence to be the only 'quick-fix' solution because from what I see, the never ending mounds of magical, vicious halflings coming isn't coming to a decrease.

Note: It's about time some people here wised up on the roleplaying of race animosity lately. Certain dwarves who dislike orcs are often called 'racists,' although the concept of 'racism' wasn't even created back then...

Limiting intelligence is is absolutely no solution I would recommend. Because this would be a permanent drawback, even when crafting magic is implemented for dwarves. Also, never say "You cannot do that because you are ***". This always leaves holes which cannot be explained ingame. The way I would reccomend would be certain positive or negative bonuses on different skills. Say halflings have a less high chance to succeed in their spells and dwarves generally learn magic much slower.

The subject of friendly orcs is another case. A truely orcish played character would have to be thrown out of town on sight, thus rendering it totally senseless to play such a character at all as you could only walk around alone waiting for some adventurer you could scare away. Orcs in Troll's Bane have to be civilised to a certain degree, and this can even be explained, by the background story as it was stated in the calendar topic, and in the cronicles.
Of course you are still right, we have many orcs who just act like average humans or like little children.
