"Injustice?"

Post by Xerake »

I know that somebody, somewhere, is going to bite my head off for posting this...I would post this in the Technical Forum, but it may get deleted or locked there quicker.

Xerake roleplayed as a silent killer in the past, and is known as a fighter now.

The problems began after the recent server fixes from about a month ago. My character kept losing items, and requests for getting them back seemed impossible. I didn't mind this when I began to get items back on my own, and my fighting skills were great. Once a few items were restored, the real trouble began.

I'm debating whether or not I should just get rid of Xerake, because although he has a decent role and history, he's no longer a good fighter. That is what he IS, a fighter! It would be ridiculous for me to claim I was once a great combatant from a far away land, then have my pants beat by somebody with a 43*** number.

I know what many of you are going to say; this game isn't about skills, it's about the roleplay. This is true, but if my character lacks items and can't get good in anything anymore, he's nothing more than a walking chatterbox, and I was always hoping there was a bit more to a character; I might as well go to an RPG chat room on AOL if I were just going to chat.

In my opinion, it's unfair to be called the next Muten Roshi then, overnight, reduce hugely in skill, lose more items, and have a skill freeze bug in which certain mods hate me for daring to ask for help. The worst part is, none of this is my fault; I obeyed server rules, but still play as if I'm punished.

The programmers work hard, granted, and this bug may be unfixable. However, I'm assuming it's fixable, due to the fact that there was no elaboration and I was just told 'no.'

Thanks, and post your opinions.

I completely sympathize with you, Xerake. The problem is 100% fixable, as the game programmers can give you the best skills in the world if they wanted to, let alone fix your skills. It all depends on how much they care about the end users.

Xerake, I know exactly how you feel.
Due to being target of many deranged persons who shall remain nameless, aswell as having been more or less reduced to zero skill through involuntary quest participation some time ago, I am only a shadow of my former self. There were times where I could take on demons... an now I can hardly defeat a zombie... I too thought about just starting a new main char, but decided against it as Mishrack has just come too far. But yes... everysingle time I see someone with a number about 20,000 higher than mine hit me with ease, and find myself unable to even scratch them... it hurts...

I think that in Xerake case it is unfair, although did you choose to participate in the quest mishrack?

Faramier is a prime example here, he was a ghost for a very very long time, which reduced his skills to nothingness, granted this was my choice, but after this period, I came back renwed in RL aswell as in RP and now am stronger than I ever was before, regaining skills wasnt a bore as I had purpose.

However if the deduction of skills is unvoluntary, or through no rp reason then something should really be done.

This Game, the Servercode, the Database are all far far away from Perfection.
Remember we are not really more than a bunch of Tester who abuse this current Testing for thier Pleasure.

Item/Skill/Character-Loses can occure from time to Time due Changes/Bugs/Crashes and might be unfixable.

An because you never know the real Values of your Skills or anthing else you cant just say i want them back, they where [insert Number here] high.

Granted, we are just testers, but they encourage roleplaying. How good would your roleplaying be if you're strong one day and weak the next?

I do not soley relay on my Characters Strengh/Skills, i have other Ways to reach the Aims of my Character.

Sure, it would hurt me. I am not a cold blooded and stone hearted Person (only 23 hours of the Day), i also put much afford and energy in the Development of my Character. But above all, i want to develop his characteristics instead of his Skills. And these Affords are never lost, all other Things can be replaced by Time.

I sympathize with you completely Xerake...this happenned to my character Elaralith as well. She lost all skill relating to some magic skills due to a technical problem and she never got them back. It is really bad, but then what can be said? This game is in alpha stage and we are alpha testers meaning that when we play this game we run the risk of losing all we have played for from encountering bugs. My advice would be to live with it and play with what you have, and hope for the best.

The strongest power you got is your spirit. Keep it up, and hopefully, things will get better.

@Konstantin K: Hey, stop making wannabe-wise statements, its an ooc board

@Darlok: I know your char darlok, if he d loose all of his skills, he should commit suicide or everybody else would kill him

Okay, seriousely, I haven t lost any skills due to a server crash so far, but I can imagine how you feel. For a notorious fighter it must be horrible to loose all of his skills due to a server problem, but Darlok is right: you don t know your skills, so they can t be restored.

@Berengar- Eh, give Konstantin K a break, you never know, he might actually be wise ooc. This isn't necessarily the best place to flaunt that considering not everyone is here to listen to other people's wisdom, but yeah. Oh, and not everybody would want to kill Darlok.

Malinne has never lost a noticable amount of skill from a sever crash, only items. The level of how much this sucks depends on how much stuff she had acquired. It's never bothered me that much though, it only means a little more clicking of the mouse buttons, using directional keys and trying to find a way to continue having satisfactory role playing, which never proves to be that difficult or even that time consuming considering it is often free-time I spend playing Illarion.

Hell yes, I am very wise. :D
But since I've had a taste of the game now, I really do understand what horror loosing skills can be. And still I say - keep your nose up. Life goes on, no matter how miserable you are. We all know this. Life goes on.
What doesn't kill you - makes you stronger. (well, mentally)
