The Ogre Cave Search!

Post by Grant Herion »

Grant Herion made his way into the Library to study a bit on the Black book with Red print. But when he got to a shelf, the very first book he got was an old tattered one. It read something to the tune of, when a bad time is near Ogre's will take all the eatable animals into their caves that they hide very well.
Grant's heart leaps at this sound of news and immediately decides to go on a search for the cave.
He finds out where the first attack was, it was to the east, so he gets a small party that will begin to cut down all the trees in the south-eastern forest. He believes that the cave may be hidden in a clump of trees.
The search party is made of 5 brave souls: Hagen von Rabenfeld heir to the Rabenfeld castle, Jackson son of Dagger, Aylord new comer to the island, an unknown orcess and Grant Herion prince to the kingdom of Herion.
The search party begins cutting down the trees, they worked out that Aylord and Jackson will get the logs they get since those two probably need money the most.
Sadly, after searching the south-eastern forest they find no cave, but that does not dampin the parties spirits. Grant tells them the time they go it will be the Northern Forest, possibly the largest forest.
Grant knows that cutting down the Northern Forest will be a very hard task, but he believes his party will have the willpower to do the job.
Grant walks up to the town wall and puts a paper upon it.

Townspeople, I am on a quest to find the Ogre Cave. I have 4 other brave men and women who are working to find it as well. They are: Hagen von Rabenfeld heir to the Rabenfeld castle, Jackson son of Dagger, Aylord new comer to the island, and an unknown orcess.
We have searched the south-eastern forest and have come up with nothing, but we shall not stop. We are now going to search the Northern Forest, wish us luck.

Malinne wishes them luck.

I will continue looking myself, though not as the same party as you. I've been searching a while for something, anything that might make a difference in the island's situation, but have found nothing yet. Perhaps there is nothing to be found, but I will continue to look anyway when I am not too busy working.

After a long seach over all of the Northern Part of the island with Hagen von Rabenfeld, Grant heads to the library, hoping to find a book about the habits of Ogres. Maybe even where they prefer to make their caves and how 1 can get into them.

Shoni the orc hears of the party and desides to talk to Grant Herion when he comes back

Grant Herion! Hail! I am Shoni, I wish to join your search party. When are you going out into the forest again? I will search with you whenever you go out again, just be sure I'm informed. And what have you found so far?

I have searched and cut down trees in all the clusters immediately south of the tavern, around and east of the prison and the far tip of the island (south of the prison) and found nothing. I broke my last axe so had to return to town to acquire some more axes.

I will leave this note while I am in town and then I will rest till tomorrow. My shoulders are killing me. I am used to swinging a warhammer not an axe. While the axe weighs less you have to swing in a different manner in which I am not used to.

I will continue my search in the morning.

My original search party cut down most of the trees in the South West Forest (south of Fiep's inn). We did not find anything there. Right now I am preparing to search the Northern Forest. I will leave a list with lines in which all who wish to accompany me will right upon.
Please note, that when you place your name there you are on this quest and whatever follows you will not be alone. Please note again that you will need axes that can cut down trees probably around 10.
After enough people have signed on this list I will try and find a day where all of us can begin the search together.

A few hours ago Cavalorn, Dendthor an Thorin searched nearby the Oger castle. But without any result. After that we continued to search the spider cave and the demon cave.

The Ogers must be somewhere. Is Silberbrand a possible hiding place? I cannot believe that.

And another question.....for Grant:

Good luck to all the sign up!

In the dead of night Freo walks to the boards and reads the messages. Upon coming to a message about the ogres, he takes out a quill and piece of parchement.

"You have my help, my blade is at the side of anyone who wishes to find the ogres and other animals.

Freo"

Freo walks off into the darkness in search of some flint stone, in which to sharpen his blade.

Tzi has been reading these notes for a while now. Finally she decides to add a note of her own:

I will help any way I can; I have little experience with fighting, if the animals happened to be discovered, but I suppose I could join the others who are looking through the library for more clues...

Tzi shrugs and walks off, not certain that she can help

I think you will find the ogres cave, when they attack the town and leave they're cave because of that.

I have an Idea, why not grab Kzarak Zhoruch (His avitar is an oger, I only presume he is RPing an oger of sorts *shrugs*)and steak him out on the ground to the north east. You know...as bait.

Then when the ogers get wind of him, out they will come to rescue him, or take him back to eat. Then we will follow them back to the cave.

Now is that not a plan and a half or what?

I have also been searching the isle with some of my friends, but we didn't find anything.

But in spite of this, we won't give up hope and we will keep our eyes open!

I just wonder, has it occured to anyone why more than 10 people have searched the WHOLE island and found nothing. Maybe we are missing something. Maybe we don't have the answer to the riddle yet. Maybe we have to figure this out before the answer will be revealed. I personally have traveled many a weary mile looking for signs and found nothing. I think that we have overlooked something. And once we find whatever it is the path will be clear. Or at least I hope so. However we find them, we need to find them quickly, and I am ready to go on a search whenever you are. Just find me as soon as you are ready.

With this Shoni the ork adds his name to the list

I guess the answer to this riddle lies in the inactive portals northwest, but i didnt find a way to activate them. One is blocked by a old statue, another is unreachable, the third seems not to function.

By the way skip the idea that the entrance to the ogres cave is in the desert, i searched every meter of sand there and found nothing at all.

Someone built fortifications on the island to the north and whoever did this might also have something to do with the dissappearence of the animals. Although it might be possible that the ogres went by ship from there id say that it is a difficult thing to transport more than 50 ogres on a ship without letting them destroy the ship. Transport by a magic portal or via tunnels seem more plausible. I will continue to lend my blade and eyes to everyone who might have a idea what to do now.

truly yours,

I think the problem is, not only do we not have the answer to the riddle, but I am not sure we even have the riddle yet. Yes it is true that ogres will take animals and other food stuffs to their caves to last out troubled times. When was the last time you saw an ogre feasting on Beholders. I think the ogres are a symptom not the problem. Something has caused them to hide and it is that we need to find, not some sheep.

Miliae walks up to the various posts and reads the newest ones.

She sees the last one, smiles, and gives a little laugh.

"But some sheep would be nice, " she says, smiling.

I think more research needs to be done in the library.

I tried but I am not as good at it as some others may be. I live by strength and am not very intellegent when it comes to books.

We need to get our most intellegent people together and do some nonstop reading in the library.

The point is that the symtom "Oger cave" is the only clue we yet have. Solving this problem would improve our situation. Perhaps we will find out what caused this all. Ogers can't change the weather, can they? :D
