I always found the bulky guardhouse inappropriate for Runewick. That's why I made a suggestion years ago to build a Great Hall there, reminiscent of the lost Great Hall on Tol Vanima. The proposal shows the lower floor of the hall, the upper floor should be designed similarly to Tol Vanima, possibly with a small corner tower.

Personally I do not think the guard house necessarily needs change. It serves a vital purpose for our realm's defenses. As well as a place for our guards, lacking as they may be presently, to organize themselves and lock up any criminals that are not sent to the prison mines or hold them until they are.

However, the following sketch would be my suggestion for a remodeling to make the "bulkiness" and presence of the guard house less prominent for those that dislike it for such reasons.

It includes a size reduction of the present guard house, with the addition of another outdoors seating area for our citizen to socialize while being able to keep an eye on who leaves and enters the realm.

The small sparring pit is removed as a result, since we already have a much bigger one available in the form of the arena which the portal inside leads to.

As former guard captain of Runewick, I agree with Teagan. No town is complete without a town guard, and a town guard needs a headquarters where they can be garrisoned, train, store equipment, and jail trouble makers. Not the guard house is a problem, but the current lack of guards to operate it. There is hope that in the future Runewick may yet recruit new town watchmen, and the guard house should be ready for them.

As for Teagan's plans, though I'm not strictly opposed to them, but I see little gain in them either. Do we really need to downsize the guard house just to place yet more tables and chairs outside? Our inn is just a few meters away, the whole purpose of which is to offer the locals a place to sit and socialise at. The inn's balcony offers also a good view over the main street for those who want to keep an eye on who enters and leaves Runewick. On the other hand, removing the sparring ground would mean that those who want to train would no longer be able to take notice of anything happening outside the guard house, as they would be forced into the isolated fighting pit deep underground, which is rarely ever visited. The sound of sparring inside the guard house also alerts passersby to the presence of townsfolk sparring, making it easy for them to find help or training partners when they need it.
