Crafter's College (Reference - updated 6/2025)

((This topic is only for asking and learning the crafting arts. Please do not spam this topic with business questions))

Welcome to Crafter's College!
sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce

~"By faith in yourself, others, your skill and tools, anyone can obtain great prosperity" ~ Bernie Bottoms

Mission: To encourage and educate future apprentices and entrepreneurs about the crafting arts

Vision: To create Grandmaster craftsmen in all cities able to trade with each other and be available for customers in all walks of life

Welcome to the Crafter's College!! We are here for free to offer you the wisdom of years of crafting experience and wisdom to get started, enhance or perfect your crafts!

What are crafts?
We define crafts as anything you can naturally gather, collect, create and sell that avoids magic or the supernatural. Magic and the supernatural are often unpredictable at best and dangerous at worst. Crafts are processes and recipes we can repeat over and over again with no changes or unpredictability. Therefore, Alchemy, Glyph Magic, Bardic Magic, Druidic Magic and any Magic overall, will not be covered by this College and we recommend you seek out a teacher for those pursuits. For everything else, we can teach and mentor you! Good luck Crafter!!

Making Coin:
Crafters of all levels create and sell their wares to make coin. Usually the best prices can be had from wandering warriors or fellow crafters. However, when you're unable to sell your creations or they have defects, I recommend selling them to one of the many vendors in all three towns and the Hemp Necktie Inn. Crafter Beware!! The prices they will pay vary from vendor to vendor! To get the best prices, look at the types of coin the vendor has. If the vendor mainly deals in Silver Coins ((Illustrated as Silver Coins on your items to sell)), then he will rob you of your hard won efforts by offering 5% or less! Go to another vendor that has plenty of Gold Coins ((Illustrated as Gold Coins on your items to sell)) and he will at least be fair at 10% of value. Be smart!

1) Basic Unskilled Gathering ~ College of Lifestyle Crafts

Although not truly a craft, it's the basic skills and materials needed for almost all other crafts. We've all been there. New to the area, getting hungry so you pick some apples to live, but how can you make the money you need to buy those first basic craft tools? Sell your time! These tasks are so important, I can say that all craftsmen have started here and continue to need these items in their crafts. Often, craftsmen would happily pay a few silvers to someone who can gather these basic items for them so they don't have to. It's a matter of paying for your time! Let's get started! ~BB

Random Item Drops - Occasionally walking through the countryside, city, woods, hills, caves or swamps, you will notice a single Herb, a single Magical Shard (these glow), or discarded equipment lying on the ground. Get next to it and Pick it up ((Push "P")). Sometimes these are rare herbs Alchemists look for, such as Fire Root, Life Root, Oneberry, etc! Mages use the shards in their enchantments of objects! Finally, you can sell old equipment to merchants. Easy money!

Gathering Fruits - Apple, Cherry, Orange and Banana Trees are your friend! There's also Grape, Tangerine, Blackberry and Berry (Don't eat!) Bushes. Not only as a beginning source of sustenance, but a way to make money! From the early days ((Tutorial)), you should have learned how to pick these fruit trees and bushes. Just in case you didn't, simply walk up next to the tree and pick ((Double click on the tree)) the fruits. They usually have 10 fruits that take a little time to pick. Start collecting them and store them in a local depot, you'll thank me later! Then find a local craftsman. Here's a list of who to look for:
* Cooks or Bakers - Apples, Cherries, Strawberries and Blackberries for pies and cakes, and Berries for elite Venison Dishes.
* Brewers - Bananas, Grapes, Oranges and Tangerines to make Juices and Berries for a special Liquor.
Also remember, they also buy those random Strawberries, Blackberries, Berries etc. too!

Killing Pigs, Chickens, Rabbits, Deer, Cows and Sheep - Upon arrival ((Tutorial)) you should have learned how to kill pigs. Just in case, it's a simple matter of walking next to them and hitting ((left click)) them with your fists, dagger, knife, club, whatever you have handy until they die. Then collect their carcass and sell it. This works for chickens, Rabbits, Deer, Cows and Sheep too! Start collecting these materials in your local depot. Several Crafts use these materials. Here's a list of who to look for:
* Cooks - Buy all kinds of meats (Pork, Chicken Meat, Rabbit Meat, Deer Meat, Raw Steak, Mutton)
* Tanners and Tailors - Buy the Wool, Raw Leather, Feathers, and even Horns for light Armor Helmets.

I hope we've taught you enough to start surviving and even making some coin with just your bare hands and some time. Very quickly, you'll start to learn other crafts too, but you'll never forget these basics. Now go out there and help your fellow craftsmen save time, it pays!!

2) Husbandry ~ College of Lifestyle Crafts
((Best Attributes: Con & Ess))

Husbandry is the art of collecting, caring and gathering from animals while NOT killing them. It is taking care of them, reaping the benefits and saving them for later use. It takes time and skill to collect things more and more exotic, but this skill allows you to collect these benefits for the many crafts that need it. Let's get started! ~BB

Chickens - Tool: Nothing
Occasionally walking through the forests, you'll encounter nests of Chicken eggs. Like unskilled gathering, you can walk up and simply collect ((double click)) the nest to collect up to ten eggs. However, as the chicken is unharmed in this, you will learn the basics of Husbandry. The chickens will usually lay more in a short while.
Here's who we've discovered uses eggs:
* Cooks - Eggs for Egg Dish
* Bakers - Eggs for Egg Sandwiches and Custard Pies

Cows - ((Lvl 20+)) - Tool: Large Empty Bottle(s)
Cows have milk! You'll need to obtain some large empty bottles either from a merchant or a Glass Blower. Hold the bottle in your hand and walk next to the cow. Then milk the cow ((Double click the Bottle)) and watch the milk flow into the bottle! You can hold several bottles to do this and cows will usually fill up to 20 bottles. The cows will recharge themselves after a while.
**Warning - Do not milk Bulls! They don't have milk and they might become hostile if you try!
Here's a list of who uses Cow's Milk:
* Cooks - Cow's Milk to make Cheese, soups, etc.

Sheep - ((Lvl 30)) - Tool: Large Empty Bottle(s)
Sheep have milk too! You'll need to obtain some large empty bottles either from a merchant or a Glass Blower. Hold the bottle in your hand and walk next to the sheep. Then milk the sheep ((Double click the Bottle)) and watch the milk flow into the bottle! You can hold several bottles to do this and sheep will usually fill 20 bottles. The sheep will recharge themselves after a while.
Here's a list of who uses Sheep's Milk:
* Cooks - Sheep's milk is a newfound delicacy in special creations coming soon!

Collecting Honey - Tool: None
Near several towns there are Bee Hives. You'll be able to harvest honey with your bare hands. Approach the beehive and examine the Beehive ((Double click the beehive)) to scrape the Bee's honey out.
**Warning - Be ready for combat if an angry bee happens to come out of the hive, angry that you took it's honey!
Here's a list of who uses Honeycomb:
* Brewers - Honeycomb is pressed into Bee's Honey to make Mead, and the "Bear Slayer" Liquor
* Bakers - Honeycomb is pressed into Bee's Honey to make Cookies and Blackberry Muffins
* Candlemakers (Chandlers) - Honeycomb is used to make wax and candles

Pressing - Tool: Press and Collection plate
Although technically not a craft, this skill covers the basic needs of several of them. Once you've collected Honeycomb or Black Thistles, the essential substance must be pressed from them to bottle for customers. To do this, stand in front of the Press with the collection plate in hand, and the honey or thistles and Honey Jars from Potters. or oil bottles from Glassblowers, in your bag or belt, and use ((double-click)) the Press to squeeze the substance out and into the collection plate, which then easily pours it into the appropriate bottle. This pressed Honey or Lamp oil is a little more valuable.

Recipes:
Lamp Oil
  • Lamp Oil - 2 Black Thistle, 1 Empty oil Bottle
Wax
  • Wax - 2 Honeycomb
Honey
  • Bee Honey - 1 Honeycomb, 1 Empty Honey Jar
Firewasp Honey - 1 Firewasp Honeycomb, 1 empty Honey Jar
I hope we've taught you enough to start surviving and even making some coin with just some basic tools, a care for the animals and some time. Very quickly, you'll start to learn other crafts too, but you'll never forget these basics. Now go out there and help your fellow craftsmen and yourself, it pays!!

5) Farming ~ College of Lifestyle Crafts
((Best Attributes: Con & Dex))

Farmers are the best! The smell of fresh air, sun shining down and the feel of rich dirt between your toes! Farmers are always outstanding in their field! (chuckles) Seriously, If it can't be mined, it must be grown! The Farmer is essential for cooks and bakers, even brewers to make their wares. It's an easy harvesting craft that requires little effort and lots of patience. Perfect for those who enjoy the slow life! Let's get started! ~BB

Sowing Seeds - Tool: Seeds in hand
No matter the crop you are growing, the process of sowing seeds is the same. Hold the seeds in your hand and find a nice dark patch of farm field. Then spread the seeds ((Double click the seeds)) over the field into empty spots of farmland. Then we wait!!
*Hint: For any crop except Wheat, don't harvest more than half of it. Let the other half mature and go to seed. After a time the seeds will drop and you should have enough to plant the next round of crops! As you get better, you'll discover ways to get more from your crops and seeds.

Wheat
Harvesting Wheat: Tools - Scythe
When the Wheat has grown tall AND turned a light brown, it is ready! Hold the Scythe in hand and use it ((Double click on Scythe)) to reap the wheat into bundles. Be careful, these get heavy fast! Drop them off in a depot as soon as you can and get more!
  • Threshing Wheat: Tools - Flailing Pole and Threshing Floor
With the Wheat Bundles, now it's time to separate the Wheat from the Chaff. You'll need a Flailing Pole and a circlular Threshing Floor as well as the bundles of wheat in your bag or belt. Use the Flailing Pole ((Double Click on the pole)) to separate the wheat bundles into wheat seeds. Be sure to save enough for the next crop you plant!!

Milling Wheat: Tools: Wooden Shovel and Millstone
Bakers and cooks won't want your Wheat seeds, but prefer the finely ground powder called Flour. You can make this flour by standing next to a Millstone, hold a wooden Shovel in your hand and wheat in your bag or belt. Use the Wooden Shovel ((Double click on the wooden shovel)) to collect the fine flour into bags as the millstone grinds up the wheat. Cooks and Bakers will need these bags of flour and you can earn coin this way!
Cabbages
Harvesting Cabbages: Tools - Sickle
Cabbages go through four stages. First you have the baby sprouts you plant, then they grow into mid-size cabbage heads, and then finally the larger Cabbages. You could Harvest them at this stage by Using the Sickle in your hand ((Double click the sickle)) next to the crop and harvest them! These are good for Cooks for dishes and Tailors for Green Dye!
However, if you do not Harvest the Cabbages, they will then go into a fourth stage and turn into seeds. To collect the seeds, walk over to them and use the sickle ((Double click the sickle)) and collect the seeds.

Tomatoes
Harvesting Tomatoes: Tools - Sickle
Tomatoes go through four stages. First you have the baby sprouts you plant, then they grow into mid-size tomato plants supported by poles, and then finally the larger Tomato plants with fruit on them. You could Harvest them at this stage by Using the Sickle in your hand ((Double click the sickle)) next to the crop and harvest them! These are great for Cooks!

"Food, Glorious Food!!" Everyone cheers and worships good food! Cooks and Bakers have no enemies, only friends. Cooking and Baking is the fine art of turning the mundane into something made for Gods, and sometimes the Gods bestow their favor upon the eater of fine foods too! A Good, Healthy Diet will come with temporary benefits from the Gods! ((We Note them like this: Benefit)) Very useful if you're out of potions or enchanted items!! ~ BB

Congratulations!! You are now a Journeyman Craftsman, no longer gathering for others, but creating your own products for customers, friends and family! ((Updated Feb 2025. Disclaimer: It may seem like a spoiler to list recipes and benefits, but I added them in the hopes it will encourage both; an interest in cooking and interest in trade for foods. A more popular Game would have Fan 'Wikipages' with all this information. It's for the good of the game. If it's bad for the game, I will remove it by request of the Admin. Thank you!))

8 ) Digging ~ College of Furnace Crafts
((Best Attributes: Con & Str))

Although it's only a gathering craft, it's the basic skills and materials needed for all the other furnace crafts and even treasure hunting! Collecting and Gathering sand and clay for Pottery and Glass Blowing is very necessary and can seem tedious at first. However, good diggers are always valued as members of a treasure hunt to find buried treasure from treasure maps! Due to the danger, be sure to bring some muscle with you!! ~BB

Clay - Tools: Shovel
Gathering clay is as simple as standing next to a mud pit and using the shovel in your hand ((Double click the shovel)) to dig out the clay. It gets heavy quickly, so watch how much you collect before going back to a depot. Clay is necessary to Pottery, in which you can make clay cups, bricks and all manner of items for hearth and home!
Locations:
  • Cape Farewell - Southwest of Cadomyr, this is generally considered to be the safest and largest group of mud pits. Best place to dig!!
Dewey Swamp - Northwest of Runewick/Norteast of Yewdale
Slime Swamp - South of Galmair Harbor, North of Nargun Plains. This has no official name, so I'm naming it!! (Danger - Slimes)
Sand - Tools: Shovel
Gathering Coarse Sand is as simple as standing next to a sand pit and using the shovel in your hand ((Double click the shovel)) to dig out the coarse sand. It gets heavy quickly, so watch how much you collect before going back to a depot. Coarse Sand is necessary to Glass Blowing, in which you can make Glass Ingots, Bottles and all manner of items for hearth and home!
Locations:
  • Cadomyr - Just outside the main gate and nearby are plenty of sand pits and considered the best and safest place to dig for sand!
Yewdale - On a small island with banana trees is a couple sand pits, but not much. Still very safe!

Sifting Sand - Tools: Wooden Shovel, and Sifter
Although technically not part of this craft, sifting the coarse sand into fine sand is necessary to make use of the coarse sand. Just like wheat must be ground into flour before the baker can use it, so too must the coarse sand be sifted before the glassblower can use it. Besides, many gems and other treasures have been found during this process!! In order to sift the sand, simply stand in front of a sifter with your wooden shovel in hand and use it ((Double click the wooden shovel)) to sift through the sand and collect the fine sand.
Gathering Ashes - Tools: Hatchet, and any type of Logs
Although technically not part of this craft, gathering Potash is essential for Glassblowers too! In order to start a campfire, simply stand in front of a pile of wood on the ground with your hatchet in hand and use it ((Double click the hatchet)) to start a campfire. Now we wait a long while for the campfire to die out and gather the remaining potash from the ground to sell to Glass Blowers who desperately need this!
Warning! Do not start campfires near flammable objects or inside towns without permission. Town leaders tend to frown on this!

There is a second way to collect potash, but that is a way known to Glass Blowers!

I hope we've taught you enough to start surviving and even making some coin with just ya shovel and some time. Very quickly, you'll start to learn other crafts too, but you'll never forget these basics. Now go out there and help your fellow craftsmen save time, it pays!!

9) Pottery ~ College of Furnace Crafts
((Best Attributes: Dex & Agi))

Pottery is unique in that it is a practical, yet beautiful art. It is by far the least popular and therefore the most unknown of the crafts. From the common clay, a Potter can fashion building bricks, clay mugs and various earthen wares. Irmorom may be the God of Smiths, but Ushara is the Goddess of Potters! ~ BB

Congratulations!! You are now a Journeyman Craftsman, no longer gathering for others, but creating your own products for customers, friends and family! At this stage, you might consider tossing some coins to those less skilled than you to help you gather your ingredients. Trust me, your time is now worth spending on your craft instead of digging Clay!! The way to Master is clear, set and only takes time, work and patience. Start crafting!!

Pottery - Tools: Tongs and a Kiln
Pottery is the art of taking muddy, dirty clay and turning it into something beautiful or useful. Once you have the clay, simply stand in front of a Kiln and use the Tongs ((Double click the Tongs)) to start baking clay into all sorts of things!

Recipes:
  • Bricks - 2 Clay
    Clay Plate - 2 Clay
    Clay Bowl - 2 Clay
Empty Honey Jar - 3 Clay
Clay Shot Glass - 4 Clay
    Clay Cup - 4 Clay
    Clay Mug - 5 Clay
Clay Serving Jug - 5 Clay
Clay Tea Cup - 6 Clay
    Clay Teapot - 8 Clay
Mug with Lid - 8 Clay
    Porcelain Plate - 8 Clay

10) Glass Blowing ~ College of Furnace Crafts
((Best Attributes: Dex & Will))

Glassblowing is one of the "Luxury" crafts, which like Finesmithing, creates beautiful trinkets and trade goods! It's most well known for Bottles and wine glasses used by Brewers and Alchemists, but with citizens building and refurbishing their homes, Mirrors, Vases and other beauties have found new homes! Glassblowers make the World sparkle!! ~ BB

Congratulations!! You are now a Journeyman Craftsman, no longer gathering for others, but creating your own products for customers, friends and family! At this stage, you might consider tossing some coins to those less skilled than you to help you gather your ingredients. Trust me, your time is now worth spending on your craft instead of digging sand!! The way to Master is clear, set and only takes time, work and patience. Start crafting!!

Sieving - Tools: Wooden Shovel and a Sieve
Seeing through Glass requires sand so pure, it can have no imperfections. To change coarse, raw sand, we have to sieve or sift it clean first. Once you dig up some Coarse Sand, simply stand in front of a Sieve and use the Wooden Shovel ((Double click the Wooden Shovel)) to start sifting the sand into clean, pure Quartz Sand!

Potash - Tools: Wooden Shovel and a Glass Melting Oven
Glass also requires potash to hold the Quartz Sand together in an amorphous matrix. As we saw earlier with digging, there is a natural way to gather potash, but this is slow. A faster way is to incinerate (burn) the wood really fast at high temperature and gather the potash. Once you cut some logs, simply stand in front of a Glass Melting Oven and use the Wooden Shovel ((Double click the Wooden Shovel)) to start incinerating the Logs into Potash!!

Potash from Cherry Wood:
  • Potash: 1 Cherry Log
Potash from Naldor Wood:
  • Potash: 1 Naldor Log
Potash from Conifer Wood:
  • Potash: 1 Conifer Log
Potash from Apple Wood:
  • Potash: 1 Apple Log

Glass Melting - Tools: Mould and a Glass Melting Oven
Glass Blowing, like Smithing, requires ingots to be made from raw materials. Once you have equal parts of quartz sand and potash, simply stand in front of a Glass Melting Oven and use the Mould ((Double click the Mould)) to start melting the sand and potash into Glass Ingots!

Glass:
  • Glass Ingot - Quartz Sand, Potash

Glass Blowing - Tools: Glass Blowpipe and a Glass Melting Oven
Glass Blowing, like Smithing, can create a variety of useful and beautiful luxury items! Once you have Glass Ingots, simply stand in front of a Glass Melting Oven and use the Glass Blowpipe ((Double click the Glass Blowpipe)) to start melting the Glass Ingots into beautiful items!

Recipes:

Bottles:
  • Large Empty Bottle - 1 Glass Ingot
Vegetable Juice Bottle - 1 Glass Ingot
Berry Juice Bottle - 1 Glass Ingot
Fruit Juice Bottle - 1 Glass Ingot
Empty Rum Bottle - 1 Glass Ingot
Tea Bottle - 2 Glass Ingots
Empty Oil Bottle - 2 Glass Ingots
Empty Liquor Bottle - 2 Glass Ingots
Empty Ink Bottle - 2 Glass Ingots
Empty Potion - 3 Glass Ingots
Glasses:
  • Shot Glass - 3 Glass Ingots
Glass - 2 Glass Ingots, Sapphire Powder
Glass Tea Cup - 4 Glass Ingots, Obsidian Powder
Wine Glass - 4 Glass Ingots, Obsidian Powder
Glass Mug - 4 Glass Ingots, Emerald Powder
Other:
  • Glass Plate - 2 Glass Ingots, Sapphire Powder
Glass Bowl - 2 Glass Ingots, Sapphire Powder
Glass Serving Jug - 4 Glass Ingots, Emerald Powder
Glass Teapot - 4 Glass Ingots, Emerald Powder
Empty Salve Jar - 10 Glass Ingots, 1 Topas Dust, 1 Amethyst Dust

This list is complete to the best of our knowledge. We are currently exploring other designs to use for Glass and as we discover more, we'll update this. However, welcome to the fine art of Glass Blowing!!

((Updated May 2025. Please let us know if anything becomes outdated or changed and we'll update accordingly for the benefit of our newer players. Thank you!!))

11) Mining ~ College of Metal Crafts
((Best Attributes: Con & Str))

Although it's only a gathering craft, it's the basic skills and materials needed for all the other metal crafts! Collecting and Gathering rock and ores for Blacksmithing, Armorer, Finesmithing and even Gem Cutting is very necessary and can seem tedious at first. However, good miners are the foundation upon which all the other metal crafts rely!! Be proud to be a miner!!

(Sings) "Brothers of the Mine, rejoice!
Swing, swing, swing with me!
Raise your pick and raise your voice!
Sing, sing, sing with me!
Down and down into the deep,
Who knows what we'll find beneath?
Diamonds, rubies, gold and more,
Hidden in the mountain store!
I am a Dwarf and I'm Digging a Hole,
Diggy Diggy Hole, Diggy Diggy Hole..."~BB

Mining - Tools: Pickaxe
Gathering rock and ores is as simple as standing next to a rock in a mine and using the pickaxe in your hand ((Double click the pickaxe)) to pick at the rock. It gets heavy quickly, so watch how much you collect before going back to a depot. Ores are necessary to all the metal crafts! The ability to find and mine various metals gets harder as you learn to harvest the more valuable metals. It's best to start with Rock ((lvl 0)) and gain experience finding the right places to hit the rocks.

Note: Ushara, Goddess of Earth will randomly gift you various Gems, Pure Substances, Old Torches, Treasure maps or even hostile slimes during your mining. Learn to enjoy and collect these experiences for the extra profit and strength they give you! Always be ready to kill the occasional slime!
  • Types of Rocks:
Rock ((lvl 0)) - releases chucks of Rock, which can be refined into Cut Stones for construction and Ammunition for slings. To make these, simple use a Chisel ((Double Click the Chisel)) in your hand and chip away at the rock.
Coal ((lvl 10)) - Releases chunks of Coal Ore, which are needed to make ingots of all other metals! Very Important!!
Iron ((lvl 20)) - Releases chunks of Iron Ore, which with a Coal Ore creates an Iron Ingot
Copper ((lvl 30)) - Releases chunks of Copper Ore, which with a Coal Ore creates a Copper Ingot
Silver ((lvl 40)) - Releases chunks of Silver Ore, which with a Coal Ore creates a Silver Ingot
Gold ((lvl 60)) - Releases chunks of Gold Nugget, which with a Coal Ore creates a Gold Ingot
Merinium ((lvl 80)) - Releases rare chunks ((2-3)) of Merinium Ore, which with a Coal Ore creates a Merinium Ingot

    Mine Locations:
    • Malachite Mine - Southeast of Galmair, this mine has many Rock, Iron, Copper and Gold veins available. A Dwarf named Bruno Blackhole may offer help and is considered the largest and safest mine on the continent.
Dark Hole Mine - North of Galmair through the Tunnel and then down a ladder, this mine has many Rock, Coal, and Silver veins available. A Dwarf named Daerbur Wimbert may offer help and is a very safe mine!
Liberty Quarry - From Cadomyr main gates, go east, then north and this is a safe mine filled with Rock, Iron, Copper and Gold Veins. There is no-one supervising this mine so be careful of wandering critters!
Cornerstone of Candour - From Cadomyr main gates, go south, then into the mine and this is a fairly safe mine filled with Rock, Coal and Silver Veins. There is no-one supervising this mine so be careful of wandering critters nearby like hostile dogs and fox cubs!
Prison Mine - Teleport to this from any town. Although not open to the public, prisoners have been chained to it's depths to work off sentences of hard labor in the past. Unfortunately, no-one currently knows what secrets are within!
Glittery Mine - Teleport to the Prison Mine, go up the ladder, then travel west to a bridge, then north to the mine. There are terror beasts in the area and slimes in the mine, so be careful! This mine has Rock, Silver, Gold and Merinium veins to collect! This is generally considered a dangerous mine at times due to wandering Skeletons and Golems.
Pauldron Mine (Extreme Danger!) - Take a ship to the Northern Harbour and venture across the bridge South. At the southern end of the Isle is a Mountain, within which is the Pauldron Mine. Inside, there are outcrops of Rock, Copper, Iron, Coal, Silver, Gold and Merinium! Rumor has it that Gemstones are also easier to obtain here! Beware though! Multiple types of Undead inhabit the Isle and inside! Not only that, but the mountain is infamous as a Bandit Hideout, remains of their camp can be found above the Mountain. This is the most dangerous mine known!

Casting - Tools: Crucible Pincers and a Bloomery
Although I have never found this to be part of any craft, it is essential to refine any of the ores into Ingots before the metal smiths can begin their work! To cast metal Ingots to sell for the Smiths, simply have a chunk of Coal and the Metal Ore you wish to smelt in your bag or belt, and the Crucible Pincers in hand, Use ((Double Click the Crucible Pincers)) and melt the ores together in front of the Bloomery into an Ingot! These will be easier to sell or use for the Armorer, Blacksmith, Finesmith or even Carpenters for shields!

I hope we've taught you enough to start surviving and even making some coin with just your pickaxe and some time. Very quickly, you'll start to learn other crafts too, but you'll never forget these basics. Now go out there and help your fellow craftsmen save time, it pays!!

16) Woodcutting ~ College of Wooden Crafts
((Best Attributes: Con & Agi))

(Sings) "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night, I work all day"

CHOIR
"He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and works all day"

"I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavatory
On Wednesdays I go shopping
And have buttered scones for tea"

CHOIR
"He cuts down trees, he eats his lunch
He goes to the lavatory
On Wednesdays he goes shopping
And has buttered scones for tea
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and works all day"

"I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars"

CHOIR
"He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps
He likes to press wild flowers
He puts on women's clothing
And hangs around in bars...?
((The choir begins to look uncomfortable, but brightens up as they go into the chorus.))
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and works all day"

"I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspenders and a bra
I wish I were a girlie
Just like my dear papa"

CHOIR
"He cuts down trees, he wears high heels
Suspenders and a bra?!?"
((The choir mumbles angrily, and the song breaks down.))

"Ahh!! I remember my days as a woodcutter in the great Kantabi Forest! Leaping from Tree to Tree!! I cut so many trees, it's a desert now! Haha!!
Woodcutting is the timeless and labor intensive skill of cutting down trees for use by the Carpenter, Glass Blower or even the builder. With so many trees, how do you know which are good to cut? Well, Eldan Oak Trees and Ceriden and are especially sacred, Banana Trees are especially delicious and Thornbogs are especially Ugly! Don't cut these types! Otherwise, enjoy cutting all the Apple, Cherry, Conifer and Naldor you can! Occasionally, the Gods will also gift you pure elements and magical Heartwood, so save them!" ~BB

Wood Logs - Tool: Hatchet
Occasionally walking through the forests, you'll encounter trees that are suitable for cutting. These are: Apple, Cherry, Conifer and Naldor. Don't forget to gather their fruits & seeds before the final cut! Apples, Cherries and Conifer Sprouts. To cut the tree, simply stand facing the tree with Hatchet in hand, then use ((Double-Click)) the Hatchet. About 10 swings later, the tree will be felled. Occasionally, you'll also get Branches from Cherry Trees and Boughs from the Naldor trees. These can also be used by Carpenters. The Gods may also grant you gifts of pure elements and Heartwood from Naldor trees. These are rare, so hold onto them.

Making a campfire - Tool: Hatchet and a Wood Log
Occasionally, you may camp out or decide to just burn some wood. This is easy enough to do. Simply put the Wood Log on the ground, face the wood with Hatchet in hand and use ((Double-Click)) the Hatchet. The Wood will be split, stacked and lit into a warm comfortable campfire. After a long time, it will burn down. Collect the ashes for the Glassblower!

Sawing: - Tools: Saw, Sawing Trestle
Before any wood crafts can be done, you'll probably need to saw those Wood Logs into boards that will be easier to carry, carve and plane into what you need. This is often a tedious process, but well worth it. If it's any consolation, Smiths have it two times tougher! Not only do they gather the ores for their Ingots, but once it is cast, they end up with half of what they started with! Carpenters saw one log, get one board, and that's a comforting thought. To saw the Logs, carry the logs to the Sawing Trestle. Face the Trestle with Saw in hand and use ((Double-Click)) on the saw those logs into boards.

Boards
The type of Board you get depends on the type of Logs you are using. Generally Apple is softer, useful for handles, Spears and Trinkets, Cherry is harder, useful for weapons, Conifer is even harder and useful for Shields and Wooden Tools, while Naldor is the toughest useful for heavy loads on Bows and Magic Tools like Wands. Heartwood is magical and cannot be sawn into boards.

Recipes:
  • Cherry Wood Boards - 1 Cherry Wood Log
Naldor Wood Boards - 1 Naldor Wood Log
Conifer Wood Boards - 1 Conifer Wood Log
Apple Wood Boards - 1 Apple Wood Log
I hope we've taught you enough to start surviving and even making some coin with just a Hatchet, and gain some materials for your own future in Carpentry at the same time! Very quickly, you'll start to learn other crafts too, but you'll never forget these basics. Now go out there and help your fellow craftsmen and yourself, it pays!!

17) Carpentry ~ College of Wooden Crafts
((Best Attributes: Dex & Will))

The Carpenter is primordial! The first Journeyman craft existing before history began. Spears, Bows and Arrows and even wooden shields have been discovered in prehistoric ruins all over illarion!! If prostitution was the first profession, surely Carpentry was the second! Be proud, you're a Carpenter!!~ BB

Congratulations!! You are now a Journeyman Craftsman, no longer gathering for others, but creating your own products for customers, friends and family! At this stage, you might consider tossing some coins to those less skilled than you to help you gather your ingredients. Trust me, your time is now worth spending on your craft instead of cutting trees!! The way to Master is clear, set and only takes time, work and patience. Start crafting!!

Carving: - Tools: Carving Tools, Carpenter's Table
The Carver must have the flexibility to make rounded edges, long pieces and even intricate designs! The items a Carver make are finely detailed. To make them, you must hold the carving tools in hand, ingredients in your bag and face the Carpenter's Table, then use ((Double click)) the carving tools to carve a whole number of items!

Arrow and Bolts

18) Tanning and Weaving ~ College of Wearable Crafts
((Best Attributes: Con & Will))

Shearing Sheep - Tool: Scissors
You'll need a pair of scissors and some sheep. Hold the scissors in your hand and walk next to the sheep. Instead of attacking the sheep, use the scissors ((Double click the scissors)) to easily remove wool from the sheep. Sheep will usually yield 20 bunches of wool before they wander away. No harm and the sheep will regrow their wool shortly. Here's a list of who uses Wool:
* Weavers and Tailors - Buy the Wool to spin into yarn, to weave into cloth for all sorts of things!

Tanning - Tool: Razor ((Doesn't currently give skill))
You'll need a razor, Raw Leather in your belt and a Stretching Rack. Hold the Razor and face the Stretching Rack and use ((Double click on the Razor)) to stretch, scrape and tan the Raw Leather into Leather. Here's a lit of who uses Leather:
* Tailors - For Light Armors and expensive clothing
* Armorers - For padding in Medium Armor
Or...Make Parchment. Use the Razor, select other and 1 Bottle of lamp oil and a leather later, you have Parchment!
* Tailors - used to make books
* Mages - For their spells and books
* Alchemists - to record recipes
* Anyone to write messages or pages

Weaving - Tool: Scissors ((Doesn't currently give skill))
Once you've got some wool or silk, you can use one of the Weaving Looms to weave into a fabric, usually Grey Cloth for wool, or Silk for the Balls of Silk. To create your fabric, stand in front of a Loom, with scissors in hand and supplies in your belt or bag, use ((Double-Click)) the Loom and start weaving! Here's a list of who uses bolts of Grey Cloth:
* Tailors - Used to make all sorts of clothes, Hats and Robes
* Armorers - As padding for Medium Armors

Collecting Silk - Tool: Scissors
You'll need a pair of scissors and a bush that crawls with silkworms. It takes great skill ((level 80)) to avoid damaging the silk! These are usually deep in the forest and dangerous to get to, so be careful!! Hold the scissors in your hand and walk next to the bush. Instead of attacking the bush, use the scissors ((Double click the scissors)) to remove silk from the worms. They will usually yield 2-3 Balls of Silk before they wander away. No harm and the silkworms will regrow their silk shortly. Here's a list of who uses Silk:
* Weavers and Tailors - Buy the Balls of Silk to spin into silk, to weave into cloth for all sorts of advanced clothes!

I hope we've taught you enough to start collecting supplies and even making some coin from Tailors and Armorers with just some basic tools, and simple skills. Very quickly, you'll start to learn other crafts too, but you'll never forget these basics. Now go out there and help your fellow craftsmen and yourself, it pays!!

19) Tailoring ~ College of Wearable Crafts
((Best Attributes: Dex & Int))

Ever since the time the first two halflings were sent out of the Garden by the Gods, we've always created clothing to cover ourselves from the elements, wild animals and "less than ideal" body issues. I often wonder if we keep our feet exposed in memory of this great time we could freely move naked through the first Garden! ~ BB

Congratulations!! You are now a Journeyman Craftsman, no longer gathering for others, but creating your own products for customers, friends and family! At this stage, you might consider tossing some coins to those less skilled than you to help you gather your ingredients. Trust me, your time is now worth spending on your craft instead of shearing sheep!! The way to Master is clear, set and only takes time, work and patience. Start crafting!!

20) Craft Guilds and other miscellaneous notes

"Each town has it's own craft guilds to reflect the town's strongest crafts due to resources, tools and people. As a consequence, this separation of craft tools and resources helps to promote trade and interaction between the towns. As you'll discover, it's very difficult for a lone craftsman to advance in all the crafts without obtaining permission or a license to work in other towns. The Craft Guilds also only work with and reward citizens of the towns they are in.

Don't make the mistake I did!! I was a Patrician of Galmair and renounced my citizenship to join another faction during a war. In hindsight this was a mistake, for after the war ended, I rejoined Galmair and discovered I had lost all previous titles and was going to have to work extra hard to please the Don! After 3 years, I have finally done it and have the title Patrician again. I would not recommend anyone renounce citizenship, lest to never return!" ~ BB

Craft Guilds: These are Town Guilds of local craftsmen formed to teach and reward local crafters. Often, Experts ((Level 80)) will receive a certificate of merit from the guild, then a Master ((Level 90)) will recieve a special tool from the Guild, then Grandmasters ((Level 100)) will recieve a special amulet or necklace as proof that they are recognized as "Grandmasters" of their craft. It takes a lot to earn one of these necklaces, but seeing one will ensure you are the 'best'!

~A Notice is posted in all 3 Towns and at the Hemp Necktie Inn~

Hello!

After months of writing, research and verification, the long awaited Crafter's College is now open for students, apprentices and Journeyman Craftsmen to peruse and benefit from this wealth of knowledge! This is the culmination of my life's work and someday, in the not so distant future, we will publish this material in book form, in both the New and Old Tongue, for a planned College Classroom within a future Guildhall for the Chamber of Commerce. For now, these Boards and my mentorship from Galmair must suffice in our goal to create Grandmaster Craftsmen all over Illarion!

If any Grandmaster Craftsmen out there would like to add to the information here, please send me a dove or meet me in Galmair and we can discuss your contribution to the College.

Study, practice, trade, make coin and by all means, ask questions! We'll continue to update and add to these boards as information is acquired as we stretch the boundaries of known knowledge for the benefit of our crafts! Happy Crafting!
