Kosuke no Shima, a remote island off the Albarian coast, named after Kosuke the Explorer, who many centuries ago set the first human(!) foot on it's shores.
The island has several volcanos and a large mountain range in it's middle, so most the towns and villages are squeezed on the plateau near the western shore. The climate is warm, with the winter mild and the summer humid and hot. In autumn rain comes in from the Great Ocean, often typhoons bring lots of water causing floods.
Palm trees are common, as well as other plants that prefer warmer, humid climate such as melons. In the deep mountain forest one can find large insects and monster bugs similar to these found in Cadomyr, or if one is unlucky one is found by hungry ogres or wolves.
The settlements Capital and Land-in-North, are the only ones with a habour, made wealthy by exporting wood and cloth to others islands. Silk is won from large butterfies and spun to wonderful cloth in the largest towns' tailoring guilds. The infrastructure in the plateau is built well, large paths and many inns allow travellers access to each settlement making travel for nobles and their footmen very comfortable. The common peasant is not allowed to leave their lord's land without permission and way posts make sure only those with valid papers can pass - the Ronagan temples or shrines might provide fake papers to the rest in exchange for hard coin. Many people flee their lord's lands and try to make a living in the towns as free commoners. The living conditions are harsh there, though. Slums are crowded and epidemics break out rather regularly. The rich enclose themselves behind walls in the better town districts. The growth of the settlements and the wealth, as well as the better living conditions, that came with it, also allow for lots of artistic creations. While, evil tongues whisper that in the town the nobles prefer to focus on writing poems than on wielding swords. In the provinces and smaller villages there are often quarrels between nobles fighting for land or honour, or fighting down hungry peasants uprisings. Wise men claim that in the future this development will surely lead to trouble with pirates in the wealthy larger towns, but the King's Representative, who officially rules the island does nothing to increase the cities protection. It is also very likely that he can't make any important decisions on this, because a circle of high-priests holds all the power. These priests manage all the political affairs, but not from the Capital (Capital-Town), but from Valley-Town. This place is famous for it's large temples, especially it's temple dedicated to Bragon on a mountain high above the city. Many pilgrims travel there to look at the golden dragon statue with diamond eyes and buy gifts and lucky charms for their family and friends at home. The development of temples and shrines attracting tourists, over centuries, lead to the city's influential position, the tourists brought money and information from all over the land. Today, this place is not only well know for it's many temples and shines but also famous or infamous for intrigue and murder. The nobles living in the town, are making use of assasin families to gather information or to get rid of other nobles that cross them.
Land-in-North, is the largest town in the south. It has a habour and trade is done with with the neighbouring island, but also with non-Albarian places such Salkamaerian Falmarha. Kang-Arr being the most modern Albarian city and renowned as a more liberal trading port has a trade route with Falmarha, and the small island of Kosuke sits on this trading route between these two cities. Kosuke's traders profit greatly from providing food and water to ships travelling futher in both directions, beside trading Kosuke-made cloth and wood. Rice, another Kosuke-product, grown in the fields and mountains, just won't sell anywhere else it seems.
Just like in Capital, at Land-in-North's habour all non-Albarian humans as well as non-human people are forbidden to go on land without valid papers. The only way to get valid papers is to request them in person at the habour office - or by bribing a habour worker. Special to Land-in-North is just the exceptional rule that Kosukians can enter boats without needing a valid paper, so this is the place to go, if you intend to leave the country.
