Character turning/facing

Post by Hew Keenaxe »

I am now playing this game for the first time on a laptop. So now I dont have a numberpad. To rotate the character, shift/numpad is needed. We used to be able to do this with the center mouse wheel. This should be brought back. The mouse walk / pathfinding is working good. So the only need for the numpad is to face the character. I do have a remote keyboard. But needing it for one function seems excessive.

You can also use ALT+WASD or ALT+arrow keys. Hold down two keys at once for intermediate directions (e.g. ALT+up+right turns you up-right). There is no need for the numpad.

Good to know. Still would be nice to have the mouse wheel back.

You know that you can turn your character the same way as you walk (with mouse dragging) if you keep the mouse cursor very close to the character?

I'm sorry but he combo shift + 2 keys doesnt always work, It is clumsy, more often just sends me running in a vague direction. The mouse drag? Either I'm not doing it right, or it just doesn't work. Both are poor work arounds to the simple and proven way of rotating that we had before. The mouse wheel. Those other options could be retained for those without a mouse wheel. How hard can it be to add this function back. Plus, it made dancing so much easier. :D

It is ALT, not shift IIRC.

What ever, it is not wheel. i'm not asking for something new, just bring it back. What else does that mouse wheel do? Nothing. JUst make it easier. Nothing bad can happen from that.

The mousewheel is used for scrolling the chat box. This is the obvious use of a mousewheel. In other games, it is sometimes used to zoom. There is no zooming in Illarion. Turning a character (instead of scrolling the chat box) is just not robust GUI/input design. But Nitram might want to comment on this.

The bug that ALT+(direction) does not always turn your character is tracked here: http://illarion.org/mantis/view.php?id=10389 We should fix this instead of adding yet another method to turn the character, properly having two broken/inconvenient methods rather than one that works.
