it came to my attention that monster spawn a little too often. Let me first explain how monster respawn works:
The map and all dungeons are separated into distinct "spawn zones". Within those spawn zones, a maximum number of monsters is defined. Each 10 to 30 minutes (random) the game checks that all monsters are alive in their zone. If a monster has left its zone, e.g. by getting killed, the game respawns a number of 1 up to the maximum number of monsters on random. This is done for each individual monster type. An example: The game detects that in a spawn area, there are 3/4 (actual/maximum) skeleton mages alive and 1/4 normal skeletons alive. The game respawns 1 skeleton mage and 1 to 3 normal skeletons. This means that the maximum monster number is not always restored immediately.
The question is: Are you fine with that frequency of 10-30 minutes for each check or do you want to see that doubled? The pros and cons I see for a longer time between checks:
Pro
- Save areas after killing monsters there
- Higher need to explore the map and dungeons to get loot
- Less spawn camping
- Less monsters respawn over time
- Less loot
- More moving necessary in dungeons to find monsters
- Reduced challenge of dungeons
