Day/night
Ufedhin just told my character "good night"
How in the heck does he know if it's night or not!? Not that I'm judging him or anything...but it was 6:59 am IG! The only way to check is to go to the website and see! That totally breaks immersion. I'm not sure exactly what type of system is in place. Every three minutes the game gets light, then dark. The sun isn't rising/setting that fast.
Is this in the works like it was in the last client?

What exactly is your proposal?
Re: Day/night
How about something like this:

Like.. implement the thing as an object in game, implement the website timer on it so that when you double click it it tells the time?

Re: Day/night
I do not quite see the problem. I use the IG time on the website and RP tgat my character looks where the sun is.
The time is there and has to be used IG otherwise your char wouldnt know when quests would start.
So how does this break immersion?

Re: Day/night
One would think some philosopher in the world of Illarion would question the science of the passing of time. Perhaps they measure it with the steady swing of a pendulum, that of which is set in accordance with a sun dial. Or they just judge the time by the darkness of the sky and rising of the sun.
Re: Day/night
It is not about "How do our characters know?" but "Can we, the palyers, have a fancy way to know the ingame time without having to visit the homepage"

Re: Day/night
I am not saying we need any of those fancy witchcrafty sundials. I'm just wondering if there is a way to make the game actually night. It seems like the game is in perpetual daylight to me. Except when underground.
In the last client we had on the right side of our screen a little indicator of the time of day it was. It wasn't exact, but it showed the position of the sun.
When I say it breaks immersion, I mean I have to momentarily leave the Illarion world of my client and alt-tab to see the webpage. It doesn't bother me as a player to do it. I'm constantly looking at the time IG anyways.
And it is about the characters knowing the time. There is no sun to look up to. The shadows don't change with the passing of the day.

Uh? No. When it is night it can be really dark.Lord Arcia wrote:I am not saying we need any of those fancy witchcrafty sundials. I'm just wondering if there is a way to make the game actually night. It seems like the game is in perpetual daylight to me. Except when underground. .

Edit: And of course there is a sun... YOU dont see it, but your character wll very likely.

I get your point. And this may sound a bit blunt but the RP guide tells you we have to RP around technical limitations.Lord Arcia wrote:I am not saying we need any of those fancy witchcrafty sundials. Of course things can be better but yeah iunno man, this seems a bit trivial to me. Everyone his own thoughts though.

Dwarves have an innate sense of time due to prolonged periods of underground life

New Business idea: A Dwarven time caller! At Galmair marketplace. "Hear hear yer Folks! It is 12 o'clock in the midday!...Oh, by the way, that makes 20 silvers."

Re: Day/night
The client contains the day/night cycle that is in sync to the times as provided by the homepage. At least it should contain it. If that does not work its a bug.
How ever the client is also able to get slightly brighter or darker depending on the current cloud coverage. This only changes a brightness a little but if the server changes the weather too fast, it could switch too fast. Also the client shows indoor areas a little darker then outdoor areas.
All in all: Yes there is a day/night cycle as proposed... and I do hope its actually working. If the brightness is constantly changing it might be a issue of the weather script. Also keep in mind that there still is weather. Even while the effects (rain, snow) are currently disabled because they caused major performance problems for many players. But the calculations for the weather are still around and the other effects (like changing brightness) are still in place and working.

Re: Day/night
For me, it works perfectly fine. When I log in and it is 2 ig ingame time, it is dark.Nitram wrote:and I do hope its actually working.
Edit: Well, not so perfect. It works on the broad scale, but sometimes tehre ra rapid changes from ark to bright and back. I think when it becomes morning (or evening?) it becomes shortly bright than dark agai nand than bright again. Maybe that's the cloud thingie you spoke of.

Re: Day/night
It is just annoying to me that my screen constantly goes dark after it is light for a few seconds only. It seems like there is daylight for a few moments, and then it is suddenly night time again, it doesn't seem like cloud cover to me.
Re: Day/night
The night and day seems to work fine as i can see...the twilight times of dusk and dawn seem a little strange the change over between day to night seems to rapid and seem to contain a few brighting and darkening phases as Jupiter said maybe the cloud effects?.
A darker night than normal a few days a month would be nice ...
