Poison

Post by Elaralith »

I propose that poison (yellow drinks) when successfully used on another person have "poison" effects such as slowly draining health for a set period of time. To balance this I propose that the higher the constitution you have the slower your health is drained by poison and affected. Poisoning people should also be a skill in my opinion...to be added under a new skill section "Thief Skills".

Poisoning people is more Mercenary/Assassination techniques, rather than a thief.

Excuse me? An assassin is a TYPE of theif.
And a mercenary can be anyone. A warrior, theif etc. Mercenary just means "hired hand".

we have talked about poison in other topics, although i dont think there has been a topic specifically for poisoning. I am thinking poison will be eventually implemented. that way monsters can poison you like scorpians and druids can sell antidotes.

No, an assassin would use poison to kill someone. A thief would steal, not kill. I never said an assassin was a type of thief.

It was nice of you to be so kind in the way you replied

1) This word is spelled "thief", NOT "theif". I wonder when this will go in everyones head.

2) A thief steals things. An assassin kills people. At least to me, this is not the same thing.

I think what people are mixing up is the fact that they both use the same basic skills.

They are similair, but also very different.A good thief NEVER kills to get what they want, while a good assassin never takes anything.

Assassins and thiefs are both considered rouges. Poisoning is a skill belonging to rouges and therefore assassins and thiefs may use it.

My 2 bent copper cents as I love playing thiefs in storybased rpgs.

Actually, english spelling, Martin, differs from place to place. Spellings vary from Australia, to the US, to Canada, to Britain and so on.

Also I agree that theif and assassin are different classes BUT an assassin is a TYPE of theif in my opinion.

This is what i have to say,

A thief will only steal and only kill if he is needed to but he is not a good fighter,
An Assassin is good with weapons and kills when he wants to and will only steal of the corpse when he/she is dead if he wants to.

An assassin is someone who would use the poison to kill and a thief would only use it if he needs a easy, quick and quiet escape.

Martin how can people follow your "no spamming" rule when you don't?

ON TOPIC:

maybe poisoning could be an accual skill, or it could be called "assasasination" or something like it. If there is such i skill i have yet to see anyone that accually has it under one of the skills tab.

Poisoning should go under the skill "assasination" along with other abilities like backstab.

However it isnt really needed, there are already assasins living in trollsbane namely me and Xerake and together we can assasinate the vast majority of people on the island.

At the moment assasination is something you learn without the use of a skill and this adds alot to roleplay for assasins, I think by making things such as assasination as a skill you would take away some of the best aspects that are required for a good rp assasination.

Actually Elaralith your post just now was rather brainless. All it accomplished was to point out the fault of another while showing your own brainless thinking in doing so. Enduring it, indeed. At times you are the center of it, the cause. It is no insult, but rather undeniable fact. Also, I would like to ask you something Elaralith: Are you from the U.S.? If so, then it IS "thief." I realize that I have now officially jumped the bandwagon of brainless posting and offer this in return:

I like the idea of an actual cumulative health drain from poison. Though, the idea is not really fresh or original in any way, I believe that such an addition would be beneficially. Illarion has its different sides, but if it were completely different, it would be so odd that either many would flock to play this game or we would lose all our players. Most "original" ideas are merely old ideas revised anyway, so why not have it?

There is nothing wrong with that. It would be the same as someone playing an evil character. In RL they are most likely not evil but they are rp evil. Same as with the sexes.

Back to the topic...
There should be a way to put the poison onto a weapon such as a dagger or arrow. It would be really hard to force someone to drink it.
But before the poison is implemented the druid antedote needs to be implemented first.

well if the potion is drinkable, its probobly not that sticky, and if it doesnt stick, how would it stay on the arrow/blade.

Perhaps once you dip your weapons in poison they only stay poisoned for a short period of time....I wouldn't expect any weapon to stay lethally poisoned for a long time while sitting in a box with coal, iron, and other various things rubbing on it

Poison can come in many forms. It does not nessaserily have to be 'posion' to posion someone, an obviouse example being feaces or poo poo to the less educated  which smeard over a spear tip or blade then used to create a wound would in turn induce sepsis and if untreated eventual death.

Other things like dart frogs where their posion is extracted and bottled. Just like Illarions very own poison potion. Arrow heads and bolts tips are dipped into the posion and then let to dry before use.

Any how liquids can dry and leave behind what they had diluted in them. E.g salt water.

I also totaly agree with Arkadia. They should have a poisonouse life span.

Tho all this talk of poisnous weapose worrys me, there realy is enough kiling in game using the conventional methods. With the added abiltiy to kill with possibley a single penetrating hit, no matter what the opponent wears. So obviously, every body would use poison on thier blades a bows. Why would you use less effective unposioned weapons.

And as for game balancing the only way I can see this being done for poison is by yet another potion this time of antidote to be carried.
Thus increasing the intrest in druids goods two fold , what with intrest in poison and antidote.

Perhaps make it where poisons need a new ingredient...one that is extremly rare and therefor keeping the poison out of everyones hands

Or make poison slowly reduce abilities over a long period of time, thus forcing the poisoned person to seek an antidote.

I think if you are poisoned it should
1. keep you health at half-way until healed by an antedote
2. reduce movement speed and carrying capacity (considering being poisoned is like being really sick)
3.can kill you if not treated fairly soon, but not immediately
4. poison could be three or four different types, therefor needing a certain antedote....the more rare the poison, the more rare the antedote

i like the mixing with the donf blade thing, but, another idea to keep everyone from using it, poisoned weapons attack slower because you have to be careful you dont poison yourself.

i like the idea of poison but yes puting the stuff on your wepons is fine and all but have the poison that is rare is is almost certain death for the player ( if used on players ) theres got to be to be differnt types. like one takes down 1/4 of your hp and another 1/2 another 3/4 and one that kills you over w/o treatment. and all of these to take get to where they stop or are treated. reson being over time the blood cells in the body will over come the poison, thus takeing away teh poison from the body's blood stream
