In-charge NPC!

Post by Mr.Oldie »

Idea derived mostly from the discussion in thread "Reward for renter roleplay"

Incharge-NPC should be able to recognise people with Titles like quartermaster/Project manager/ Bounty hunter/ Commander of army etc etc..
Titles are GM controlable and editable
This NPC is aimed at helping GMs. so that not much time would be taken from them. which can instead be used for something else IG.

Purpose:
people with the same title can cordinate and do more work this way too
Even if some player due to sudden problems in RL cant enter the game, a nominee/second- in charge can access it after a certain period of time..
This would ensure more smooth continuous RP and progress in story-line instead of waiting for the other to come back.

Quartermaster-
The npc could store and give out keys (single one for each room) for the rented period..
Alteration of Renting period and retrieval of key from the npc only possible by the quartermaster, not the Tenant.
upon the ending of which period the key could be taken back automatically, with may be a message showing "you 've been evicted due to non payment of rent" :D
Optional: the tenant should be able to pay rent here in case its the last month of his contract. thus increasing the renting period.
would elminate the need to find the quatermaster in urgent cases.. but this option should only be possible in the last IG month of the renting period

Bounty hunter(s):
could collect reward/pay after sucessfully bring a character tied by rope/ after sending the person to the cross(whichever is easy to code)
A Delay time on the head or removal of the name from the wanted list could be done after the character has been successfully hunted down.

Project manager:
Could have a list of the necessary items put up.
Which can be filled by others but not retrieved (simply put.. lyk read only- write function smething like that :D )
Could use the same thing like the list that shows up in merchants.. selling to the NPC would ++ in a (0) counter of some sort and no coins will be given out.

commander/Guild leader:
Could use this as the guild chest too.. thus avoiding the problem with the common depot which cnat be done now
Depending on whichever seems better and non-abusable give access to just the leader or his choice of people
Idea from the mantis feature request i put up can be used for this.. (though it was meant to work differently; the basic things can be used i think)
check here

can be used as a money sink for guilds or group of people renting it as a deposit box in banks
who all can access it controlled by the first person who provide the coins and creates each..

I am not absolutely sure what you are going for here.

Are all these NPCs?
Because we have a raw plan to get player characters into this positions (and more) along with similar "powers".

Just one single NPC in each realm who will deal with all the titles..
Like an assisstant to the Proctor or Chancellor..

I was explaining how each character with titles would be handled/helped by the NPC.
This NPC would be needing constant change Like in forums. just a List that is editable would do.
GMs should be given power to edit the list of people who will be recognised.

Eg for responses:
"Ahh i see Don have put you in charge, how may i help you"- when the npc recognises a char with a title
"You dont have the necessary title to access my services"- When the character without the exact title tries to access something

I see. NPCs that require constant changes by the GMs are not a option and nothing that can work over a longer period of time.

Cant a list that can be editable IG by GMs possible?
It would be just like giving orders to that guy...
Like
PRoctor says: add **** to this tittle
or perhaps another editable dialog box for such things that opens uponly to GM??

If what am thinking is possible then in long run the GMs would be saving time due to usage of such an NPC
For instance i had one of ma characters Doved by GM for just showing him around the flats...
took almost an hour of the GM's time or more which this char alone wasted..
which could've been used by that GM for much bettter or creative things IG
such trivial matters should nt require a GMs attention
Just a hour long temperory key issued by this npc would have solved that issue

Each time such things... like payment for army, or collecting of rent from the quartermaster to the treasury etc happens we players would have to wait for GM or the GM would have to appear for that single deed..
which i think in the long run if such an npc as above is implemented would be at GMs Leisure to Come IG and edit..

If not for any other issues.. atleast for "projects" an npc should be used..
so that the Player could be tension-free that he is not stopping any advance in story line if he has to go away for a while IRL.
right now a single character could put a stop to all development if he doesnt show up (no offense to PO(copperhand))..
every one would be having such difficulties once in a while IRL..
They shouldnt be stopped from taking up important projects IG only because they are not sure they could play most of the time..
This npc would allow each player who takes up the lead a good reassurance that the storyline would go on.
I think more characters would take part in the issues of the realm if this becomes possible

NOT trying to argue with you.. just trying to see if i can convince you this is worth a change :D

Off topic but still on NPC's could we please have Lotte Silberstrief moved from her place at an alchemists work station and put her into one of the vacant chairs, really a lottery seller should not be sitting at this desk in the flicker swale ,"a grumpy alchemist could possibly send her to the cross for such cheek  .

Thanks :D
