GENERIC VBU PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS - READ THIS FIRST

Post by Flux »

I can log in my account, but my characters don't appear.
You probably haven't set your characters' info, like skin and hair colour. Go and do so on the homepage.

I can log in but my performance is absolutely terrible, or I see my character for a short time and the client can't cope and dies.
Sounds like a problem with your graphics card. Either your graphics card is too old, or more likely, you need to update your drivers.

Windows solution:
Click Start, type "run", hit return.

In the run box type "dxdiag".

In there, either note down or make a mental note of your Operating System version, if you didn't know it already. If it does not say "64-bit" then you are running the 32-bit version.
Next click the "Display" tab, and look in Name. Make a note of the device name. This is your graphics card model.

If it says AMD or ATI in it, go here:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

If it says Nvidia, or it doesn't say AMD/ATI, assumedly you have an Nvidia card. Go here:
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk

Fill in what type of computer you have (desktop/laptop typically), what graphics card you have (e.g. if dxdiag said you have a HD 3850 mobility you would select "Radeon HD series" and then "HD 3xxx series") and your operating system. Install all the recommended software, (e.g. for AMD cards install Catalyst Control Center) with all features. Restart your computer and try running illa again.

But Flux, is this bad for my pc?
No! These are the drivers written by your graphics card manufacturer. It would be a bad idea NOT to install them.

If your card is really not on either of those two websites, google the name of your card followed by "Drivers" and try and find the drivers online.

I can't open JNLP files or nothing is working!
You need Java 7. Go and get it. http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If it's still detecing the wrong version of Java, it may be detecting older Java versions. Try uninstalling Java and installing the newest version again (or older versions of java through "Add or Remove Programs" in "Programs of Features" in Start->Control Panel on Windows).

I can't use my inventory with the bag button!
Try changing Illarion's resolution in the graphics options. See if this works. If it does, please tell us what resolution you were running at that wasn't working.

Most importantly of all: Were you trying to run at 75Hz? There's a very good chance your monitor doesn't support such a high refresh rate!

And.. another thing, are you running in windowed mode, at a larger resolution than your desktop runs on? If so, the inventory window is off the edge of your screen. Like.. why would you do that? Reduce it to a sensible value.

I have an old version of the Illarion client and it won't let me download the new version!
Windows solution:
Go to your illarion install directory (default on Windows vista/7/8 is C:/users/Yourname/Illarion).

Delete the file inside called "bin".

Click start, type "run", press enter.

In the "run" console, type:
javaws -viewer

And hit return, or click OK.

In here, delete Illarion from the applications, change the tab to resources, delete Illarion resources, change tab to deleted applications, remove Illarion.

Now go into start -> run and hit return again.

This time type in:
javaws -clearcache

Then try downloading the client again from the "Play" button on the main homepage. Hopefully this should fix your problem.

I have weird inventory glitches, especially involving bags.
It's a known problem, you'll have to put up for it for now. Try to use them as little as possible for the time being.

My client occasionally goes completely dark.
Nitram thinks he has solved the problem and will try to fix it tomorrow. For now you will have to put up with it.

I am laggy in rain.
The shaders are quite demanding, if you are pretty laggy, your best bet is to stay indoors. Which is right, anyway, because it's raining.

My problem is something else.
Make a thread about it, posting the recent lines from your error log.

This can be found in the folder where you installed Illarion at:

/Illarion/usr/error.log

The default install location for this folder on Windows Vista/7/8 is:
C:/users/Yourname/Illarion/

On Windows XP it is probably:
C:/documents and settings/yourname/Illarion/

Go to that folder, open the folder called "usr", open the file called "error" and paste the last 30 lines or so into a thread with a description of the problem.

Thanks for your patience.

I found a big ol' bug.
Could you be an absolute babe and post it here? http://illarion.org/mantis/view_all_bug_page.php

If you don't have a mantis account, it only takes a minute to register one, and then you can help the Illarion project. We can't fix bugs if we don't know they exist. We may have to spend hours upon hours finding the reasons for the bugs and fixing them, and we will personally put in all those hours to make Illarion better. All you have to do is take 1 minute to post the bug up on mantis, and it really helps us.

Extra brownie points if the bug was something people could have abused to make the game unfair. We understand the temptation to abuse bugs, but this is strictly against the rules of Illarion, as it ruins the games for others. If you report bugs which pose a real threat to the fairness of the game, we will be extra happy with you, and it's always good to be on the good side of the staff.

The client options are in German, but I don't speak it
When you first log into the client it will be in German.

If your account is set to English on the homepage, then log in and your client will convert to English the next time you run it.
