Hello everyone! I am beginning to see the light after really reading through these posts on different threads. Illarion is turning into a small version of Ultima Online very quickly. I haven't been playing long (about 1 month) but I did start playing 3 weeks before the new magic system. I was doing well with my character, trying to find my place and make a name for myself (I was following all code of RPing in Illarion). Then the new magic system hit like a ton of bricks. My character, who was strong in magic before, was now a puny little fly compared to new elves that maxed intel just so they could get good fast.
I was once( and still am trying to be ) exactly like you older players. I based my stats around age and what role I wanted him to play. Everything was working out until the new magic system. About 4 days after the new system, there were master mages that were complete newbies. People were mastering magery and magic spells left and right while I, with my 17 elven intel, was left to rot in the dust. I found that I couldnt even do decent spells, such as yeg jus, hept kel, and hept sij. It became completely impossible to do any ice spells.
I know you probably think I'm pissin and moaning (everyone else seems to), but I am trying to get my point across that Illarion is turning into something that it shouldnt be. It is turning into a crime-filled, barren wasteland where real RPers are always out of town because of the newbie PKers with their master magic. I am trying to give Illarion a chance, but it seems to be failing. More newbies = more mastermage Pkers which in turn = no more older-medium players(because of them giving up) Remember older players, it isn't that the evil is getting stronger, its that the good is giving up what's left to fight for. Granted, corruption is now commonplace, but without good people to fight it...how can you ever win? I am not an oldie, or a medium for that matter. I am more of a new-medium. But I will fight on your side if you keep trying. If you give up all hope now, then you have lost entirely. Those are the last words I shall leave you with to think about. I hope you make the right decision...
Sincerely always
Cain Freemont
P.S. Do you REALLY want to lose to a bunch of newbie mastermage punks? Or do you want fix this world, and make it a better place no matter how bad they mess up the system of any kind?

There is no spell that you can't cast with a 17 intelligence.Quote: from Cain Freemont on 10:24 pm on April 21, 2002

I would agree with you Cain that this corruption is getting out of hand. newbies are taking advanteg of the new magic system to od away with the older players. I will stand to fight the tide of corruption but alone I am not strong enough. I hope that my guild will help me but that is not my disition to make and the great Korwin is very opposed to the Rangers doing anything.

I fully agree... But I think that this thread just restates what has been said before:
The new magic system does nothing as of now to improve Illarion, it just destroys the roleplay and makes newbie PKers stronger than old good RPers. But the Gods don't seem to care about what we think on that point. So the only thing we have left to do is wait and hope that it improves. Personally, I trust that it is a temporary down on the way to improvement of the magic system, as the Gods have proven that they normally do care about what the players think... wait for the new client, maybe after it is implemented, a better magic system will come?
But, to conclude: I think that enough posts have already been made about how bad the new magic system is. If the Gods are not moved yet, they will never be. So let's just stop talking about it, and hope they change it sometime to make Illarion as good again as it was once.

Now us "master mages" dont know what to expect when we walk into town! The newbie sitting beside us could have enough firepower to blow us to kingdom come in three spells! My suggestion: just leave it the old way until the better system is in place.

This is my opinion; Illarion isn't about magic and powers;
It's about getting multi-cultural friends.
In RL there is no way I could ever travel to germany or the Us or Australia (money)
But, thanks to Illarion I can gain many friends of other nationalities;
Like Ishans and Flak and Fizban and Bror and Hallmington and the list goes on.
Well that's my rant,
I'd really like to know what you guys think of it.

Illarion is a game where character meets character. Player does not meet player, although it may feel that way. It is a roleplaying game, so if you play the role of a mage, you do need magic powers. If you play the role of a bard or something, maybe not. It would not be much of a game if everyone played the role of a bard though. So skills and power is necessary (to most people).
