Rule Breaker: drag

Post by Serpardum »

There are many MPOGS, Multi Player On Line Games.  They are broken up into a few genres, such as Stradegy, Action, RPG, etc...  They classify an RPG as any game where you play one character in a different world, but not games such as Hexen or such, where they are HTH games, head to head.  All is fine.

Illarion does fall into the RPG genre.  But, it is not only an RPG but it is a Role Playing game beyond the norm.  If you read the game principals, General Rules, Rule number 1 it says, and I quote:

Illarion is a roleplaying game. Every behaviour not according to role play should be reduced to a minimum.

And rule number 8 to quote:

The conversation in the game has to be done from the characters point of view. They don't know our modern daily slang. Sentences like "My parry is near the second R" can't be made. If you have a talk between the players (not the characters) go to a place where no one is around, whisper or don't talk that long.

That's what the difference is.  EQ and AC and UO are all also RPGs, but they are not roleplaying games, you are not *required* to stay in role in those games.  In Illarion, you are required.  Plain and simple.

I play Illarion *because* it is a roleplaying game.  Some people seem to play it in even though it's a roleplaying game.  If you don't want to roleplay, there are many other games out there.

That "akiradiablo" sounds like someone we once had to deal with...
Anyone recall that attitude?
Err, nevermind, I doubt anyone knows what I'm babbling about.

Personally, I think the name rule should be a wee bit more loose...

Take Final Fantasy VII for example. They have no qualms about naming one of their character Red XIII, but if you were to have such a name on Illarion, it wouldn't be accepted...hey, it's a name, right?

No.
Just because you have public-smoking ban in New york, why should we have it in Finland, too?

Japanese have always been very loose about naming characters in everything. I wouldn'd use them as a comparison.

Yeah, his name's Nanakin...or something like that, I haven't played in a while.

Ever heard of Myth: The Fallen Lords? The berserkers have Native American names, something like Cloud Breaker Stalking.

So you are just looking for excuse for people to have stupid names by trying to find a comparison from other games?

No, Caranthir, as I don't find a name such as Red XIII stupid...

I just find it wierd that some names are just jibber-jabber. Bloodhearte used to be just known as Bloodhearte, but somebody complained that it was an item of blood with a mispelling of 'heart,' and I had to either give a first name or change it. Some last names have 'e' on the end, so that's why I added it...like Silverlocke.

I hardly see what's so ridiculous about Red XIII, when there are Roman Numerals. There are some people on this planet that have names that oddly resemble verbs, colors, or objects...

Yeah, If I remember correctly there is a thing known as 'Exhaust pipe', but it doesn't mean that we should let person called 'Exhaust pipe' in.

Of course not! But I don't think a name such as Red XIII or Crystal should be rejected. (Gasp! Females are named CRYSTAL! What's the world coming to?)

i think what hes trying to say, ITS CIRCUMSTANTIAL. viola, is a instrument, also an exelent name for a female hobbit. Crystal, is a good name for a human, not an elf or orc. it just depends. Also i noticed the name "Henry Butterworth" i find it quite amusing as "Mrs.Buttorworth's" is a popular brand of butter flavored maple syrup. Most germans probobly didnt know that.
