A World Alight

Post by Roscoe Arrowtree »

Roscoe takes a deep breath and wipes his brow with his free hand.
In his other hand he holds a small hatchet and before him is an impenetrable forest of cherry trees.

He mumbles lightly to himself "This is going to take forever" before taking the hatchet with both hands.
He starts chopping down a particularly large cherry tree when suddenly a glimmer catches his eye from within the forest.

He pauses midswing and lowers his axe to watch the glimmer of light.
He wonders to himself what it could be when suddenly there is a loud "whoosh" and suddenly one of the trees inside catch alight.

He attempts to climb between the densely packed trees with a groan but even his small frame is not small enough.
Suddenly the fire spreads to the trees surrounding the one already on fire and the temperature in the area rises rapidly.

"Oh... Hellbriar!..."

Roscoe stands stunned momentarily before his wits return to him. He yelps and runs away from the trees as several more catch fire.

"Water! I need water!"

The small Halfling runs to the edge of the water at the south gate of Trolls Bane to realise he doesn't have a bucket.
He cups his tiny hands together and dips them into the water.
He runs back to the trees and throws a miniscule amount of water onto the bark of one of the trees before cursing loudly.
"I knew this would happen!"
Roscoe sobs lightly as all of the cherry trees in the areas are slowly burned to the ground. He looks up at the sky and shouts "Why Brágon! Why!"

He sits on the floor heavily, tears run down his face and his hands are clenched into tiny white balls.
A tall Halfling walks behind him and pats him lightly on the shoulder.
"Roscoe. It's Borbulas. Are you alright? I saw the fire from my field and i'm very sorry."

Roscoe looks up at Borbulas and nods slowly with tears still spilling from his eyes onto his lap
"I guess it was inevitable. Too many trees packed together on such a hot day..."
He trails off and looks at the floor
Borbulas pats Roscoes shoulder again lightly before turning to leave
"If you need anything just let me know"
