Rarely to I ever "bitch", but I needed to let off some steam.
Finding a good ISP these days seems to be harder and harder to do.
In the early days of the internet (I'm not referring to the old ARCNET...boy does that age me?), busy signals were the biggest problem, next to finding much real content.
Now, you have to contend with overtaxed DNS, dead sockets, viruses, worms, malicious java and DirectXcoding, and mostly kiddie scripter WANNA BE hackers.
So after dealing with all that, trying to keep your systems safe, should you have to put up with an ISP that boots active users? I am a professional geek, but I do not see a need to pay the outrageous prices for the high speed internet in my area. So I, as still better than 60% of Americans (more worldwide), use dialup. I have used a few different ones.
some major, some local, and all seem to have their quirks.
Since I have switched to AOL, I have been booted several times. When I was playing Ultima, this only mattered, because I knew I would quite possibly be dead when I got back. Runescape, didn't matter. But I am really angry now that I am playing Illarion. i actually get to do some actually RPing and what happens? I get booted. I try to train, I get booted. This doesn't just apply to the game, Surf the web, booted.
Since I subscribed to AOL, (about a week & 1/2 ago) my virus software has gone off (alrm bells, not shut off) three times. Very, very unusual.
I am already looking for another ISP.
P.S. I wouldn't have to worry about it if Illarion worked on my Linux box. Hmm...anybody think about writing a client? Think maybe developers share some code?

Oops. Don't forget the joke they call a browser. Mozilla Rules!
