Using graphic programs

Post by martin »

Part 1: Using Curious Labs Poser to create graphics for Illarion.

1) Create a new scene.
2) Place, model and put textures on your character. Set the background color to a very dark gray (rgb ~ 30,30,30).
3) View through the "Main Camera" and set "zOrbit"=0°, "xOrbit"=-28°, "yOrbit"=-45°. Your character should now look to the bottom right corner.
3) Turn the "Focal" spinner to something around 600-1000.
4) By using the "Scale" spinner, resize the character in such a way that it has the desired size. If the camera does not see the character, use "DollyY" (or Z or X) to correct that. You should now see your character in the middle of your screen, still staring to the bottom right corner.
5) Load my "Lights"-settings.
6) Very important for later: Select a part of the body of your character, go to the "Figure"-menue and set the "Figure Parent" to "GROUND". This means: Whatever you do with the GROUND-plane, it will be done with your character too.
7) Animate your character either by hand or using the "Walk Designer" ("Window" -> "Walk Designer"). When using the walk designer, I play around with the parameters, click on "Apply", check "Walk in place", set the affected frames to "1 to 9", check "Always complete last step". We will skip the last (9th) frame afterwards. Done.
8) Set the number of frames to 8. (This will delete the last frame -- which should show the same picture like frame 1, if everything went fine so far)
9) In the "Animation"-menue, disable "skip frames". Testplay the animation within poser. If this looks good, proceed to the next point.
10) in the "Render"-menue, select "Render Options". Make sure that "Anti-alias" is checked (as well as "Use bump maps" and "Use texture maps"; usually I don't use "Cast shadows")
11) "Animation" -> "Make Movie". Sequence Type: Image Files, Resolution: Current, Quality: Current Render Settings. "OK". Chose an appropriate name.
12) When the rendering has finished, select the ground plane and set "Turn" to 90°. This will turn your character as well, but it will leave the lights and the camera unaffected. This way, the lightning and the perspective fit together for all directions.
13) Go to 11.

I hope this helps.

Why do people rather ask me than google?
Because I am busy? Because they want to annoy me and make me angry?
Tell me the reason, I'd be interested. Google does have enough time and it will tell you everything. Why is it that people ask stupid questions?

I think it would be a good idea to leave Martin alone when it comes to these small questions. If you have a question like, "Why doesn't my blah blah blah work?" Then maybe he can help, if its related to Illa of course ;)

Then again, maybe that will be a stupid question too, in which case, you probably shouldn't be asking it.

He started this because when someone made a graphic he said:

"It looks awful. I don't know what you do that for, but I am sorry to tell you that you will never ever see such things in Illarion because they simply don't look good.
And no, they are not "cool" or something.

Save your time, learn some maths or something."

And people like me said:

"Don't dis them for trying, help them to help you make graphics, by teaching him you will have more help."

NOW STOP YOU'RE BITCHING!

I don't have the time to teach people what they can teach themselves. I can give them some hints, but I think I gave enough hints here. You only need to read them.
I SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE TIME AND THE NERVES TO TEACH YOU!

It's alright, I'm pretty sure some tutorials would work better for um "dummies".

No need to yell, it's not like someone makes you post all this important information to educate and help out the uneducated masses.

There are tons of tutorials out there on the net.
Tutorials from people who are actually experts at what they do, something martin never claimed to be.
Tutorials for every kind of person, from beginners to professional artists.

All you need to do is search. And for this task the great technology of search engines was developed.

yes most freeware has tutorials online, if you accually have a retail version of something they usually come with a complete line of tutorials for beginners and professionals. Martin, if your reading this can i ask why you spend your time attempting to educate people. IF they want to learn, they'll find out on their own.

Martin reminds me of an Admin from a game I once knew. An admin who hated me. For no apparent reason. Who banned me because my guild leader happened to be an admin and I got annoyed at him and told him to.....I think you can guess from here.

I don't like you as well, and I have apparent reasons.
I deleted most of your postings on this board because they were so senseless. Please don't post such crap here anymore. This is my first and my last warning, next time you'll be banned from this board.

Have a nice day,
