A nameplate

Post by Jude Atelhier »

A gruff looking artisan can be seen by any passersby in the northern burrow of Trollsbane. He stands before a door of a small home, chisel and hammer in hand as he slowly knocks away at a copper wood and copper name plate. Two names are present and well worn on the plate. They read:

Felix Atelhier
Caynwyn Altehier

Below these two names the artisan etches out a third; the families newest arrival.

Roused from sleep with a rhythmic scraping sound heard in the general direction of the door, dark eyes travel immediately to her daughter asleep in her arms at the same time becoming aware of Felix's absence yet Cay wasn't alarmed knowing he would not be gone long. Perhaps it wasn't the door but a branch from the cherry tree in the garden scraping along the window in a sudden breeze? Only partially awake but satisfied with that explanation, Cay's lips move to Maddi's head giving the lightest of kisses to her feathery soft hair while taking a deep breath letting the wonderful smell of a newborn babe coax her back to a deep slumber.

*planting in a nearby field and looking for herbs passes a home where the sun hitting something metalic catches her eye and after a closer look smiles then realizes that she had missed the wedding and now the baby was here...A gift was definately in order. She wanders the field and gathers as many pink colored flowers on long and viney stems as she can then sits near the river under the shade of a tree. patiently and intricately she weaves the vines and flowers into a decorative wreath and one did not have to look too carefully to see the name woven in the design ~MADELYN ATELHIER. Satisfied that it would bring a smile to the new mothers face she left it resting on the stoop at the door.*

~No name of the gift giver can be found~

Obviously treasured since after a month the pink flowers long faded have been carefully removed from the dried vines that continue to be filled with fresh herbs and flowers as it hangs on a prominent wall inside the house. There are two parchments newly attached to the door of the house under the nameplate. One is folded carefully with the name "Kitten" on the front, the other is in large letters for all to see with red letters boldly written.

Temporary Quarantine

Unfolding the other the writing is smaller.

Felix,
I hope you haven't gotten this rash yet, but wanted to warn you before you came home. As you saw, Maddi started having a small rash yesterday but she seemed fine, well later in the day the rash practically covered her. Today I am itching all over so I figure whatever it is can be contagious. I believe she may have caught it from another child though am not sure. We have ointment to use for the worst of the itching and she is looking slightly better today.
Love,
Cay
