Copies of the parchment are nailed to doors and houses, some floating around alleyways or generally lying around. They are very difficult to miss.
The Good Gobaithian: Issue 2
Goblins-were they really a threat?
Hello again Gobaith. As many of you no doubt realise, the big story from the last week has been the attack on the town of Trollsbane by Goblinoid forces, which was followed by a military campaign lead by our noble leaders against the goblins.
Before I begin, I would like to add that ALL of us here at the Good Gobaithian bare no ill will towards our brave warriors. To be sure, the vast majority put their lives on the line, without pay I might add, for what they were told was the good of the town. And surely, they were right! An 'unprovoked' attack, a clear threat to the lives of the ordinary people, should surely be dealt with! We would all like to clarify that the following is in no way addressed to our soldiers themselves.
However. Our leaders, are another matter. Friends, I put this to you. Why would goblins attack something clearly militarily superior to them? Why would they risk such wrath? I will tell you. Because they had no choice.
For years, Gobaithians have treated goblins (sentient, intelligent creatures like you or I; creatures who love, laugh and cry like any other) like cattle, routinely entering their lands and killing them for sport or training. Whether those who did this realised how much suffering they caused, is not clear. What is clear, is that the goblins were left with no alternative.
Faced with possible extinction, their only option was to fight back, and hope to gain some type of peace deal. But what did our brave leaders decide? Genocide. Every goblin; a whole society of creatures like you or I, have now been brutally put down, irrespective of age or gender. Scources tell us that Goblin leaders during the battle repeatedly attempted to surrender, but were slaughtered regardless. It was a massacre. And the blood of the goblin people will stain the hands of our leaders forever, though no doubt they care little. Any sane, reasonable person would've reached a peace treaty, but instead we are given blood. What few goblins are left are now treated like slaves, bought and sold, as if they are mere wares in a shop.
Friends, I am not trying to preach, but I worry for our island. As evidenced by the Goblinoid campaign, our leaders now have a powerful army at their disposal. And I don't think they mean to let them go to waste. If you don't know what a military dictatorship is, worry not. You soon will, my Good Gobaithians.
Our island is almost totally controlled by three or four individuals. I say this is wrong. I say we wake up. What do you say?
Starling - A member of the LBA? Also, where is Jefferson, and will the heroic freedom fighter ever return?
Although our sources are sketchy, the halfling Bindus, the leader of the bandit organisation, has been reported to have shouted this in town. We at the Good Gobaithian treat this with some skepticism, mostly because if she was a member, why would Bindus betray her to the town? As such, we will file this under gossip, and remind our readers to also treat it as such, untill our erstwhile reporters can dig up any further information.
Remember! Its only a true rumour if you read it here first!
In other news, Jefferson, the rumoured leader of a rumoured resistance organisation, is still at large, and some say, gone from the island forever. My fellow Good Gobaithains, if true, this would be a sad loss. We urge people to follow Jefferson's example, by actually doing something as opposed to sitting on your hands, waiting for someone else to do it for you. Protect the ordinary people, and let yourselves be heard. Let that be your rallying call!
We hope, in time, Jefferson will return. But even if he doesn't, perhaps some other brave Gobaithian will step up, and take his place?
