Tool breaking and trade skill

Post by Drathe »

Argument: Tools breaking ever 2 minuites is to me at least, a very big anoyance. Not only that but I find it lacking in (heres that word again) 'realism'. I can understand why the tool breaking system is like it is, for it does add greatly to the econamy of player to player selling.

Proposal: I propose that tools break less and less as your trade skill rises. Example. A carpenter breaks his saw less the higher his carpentry skill is.

Backing It only makes sence that a good and skilled worker knows how to use and to treat his tools. Example, a skilled lumberjack knows how to hit a tree with an axe to get the best cut and less pinch on his axe, so it is less likely to break. But even the best workers and sturdyest tools do break.
This system makes it that bit more 'realistic' for tool wearing but still gives a decent amount of need for new tools to be bought. It also has added vale of a fair reason as to why tools break so much in game.
It limits anoyance to players who enjoy and play their character as a skilled worker, but at the same time still gives tool makers the opertunity to replace broken tools.

i HAVE noticed this with shovels and mining, the worse your mining skill the more it breaks from my experience.

aye, it does very much depend on your skill.

I'm a pretty good miner, and I break a shovel about every 10th load of ores I bring back, whereas some people often break theirs several times on a single trip...

Well I remember not long ago when I started to try and get some wood, chop... choobreak...but as I got better the axes do not break so often trust me if you had to go to zero skill and start over cutting trees you would know :) Still I do find it peculiar that when my axe breaks the easist and most often is when I do not use it to chop a tree but accidently use it on myself or on the ground or something else unchoppable the axe breaks. Now that is annoying, but I suppose similar to bad axe wielding and bashing it in the ground would damage it.

I find it a bit random. My character is quite a good fisherman in his spare time. Some times he can fish for 3 or 4 ten minute sessions with the same rod. Other times he can drop four rods in less than two minutes. The record so far is five in less than three minutes.

From my experiences, this is absolutely random. Sometimes they break right away, and sometimes they last forever.

i'm not sure but i've found that the shovels that i make will break in notime, i'm a very very good miner but i'm not a very good blacksmith i'm wondering if the more skilled the creator of the tool then the harder it is for it to break.....

now i know thats not true. hopefully in the next client a wider range of tools break. I think tool breaking is fine how it is, its just some things should not be indistructable.
