Dell Mini 9 Ubuntu Resolution Problems

Post by Ellis Rearden »

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Mini 9, which has a maximum default resolution of 1024x600. My graphics card is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, the drivers for it are updated and everything is running smooth.

Upon doing some research it seems I have 2 options:
1) Get a monitor supporting a larger resolution
2) Extend the resolution to 1024x768

Considering that getting a new monitor isn't an option I am left with extending the resolution. I've looked through a few guides from Ubuntu, but none of them seemed to work. I'm not looking for anyone to do the work for me, but if anyone else had this problem and got it fixed then just give me some information, or if you have any ideas then just say them. Thanks if you can come up with something.

Thanks for the quick response, but sadly that isn't applicable. I'm not running a nvidia graphics card :(

Any other ideas?

I got it working on Ubuntu Jaunty by setting it to 24bit... but I'm able to get the 1024x768. I wish I could help, but I don't know how to do what you need. Have you tried running Illa both windowed and maximized? and seeing if either one might work anyway?

I think we have similar problems my friend.

I have found no solution, since my screen is too small.

Future clients will support smaller screens though, but sadly I found it impossible to get illarion to work on my netbook.

When I 'emulated' a larger resolution (on Windows, using the intel graphics accelerator software), the result was pretty ugly (and illarion didn't work anyway).

Guess its the larger screen option.

No matter what I do, I am never able get to the bottom of my screen when I'm in windowed mode. If I need to reach something in the bottom row of my backpack, I have to move things around until it ends up in a different row. I can't even see the bottom row.

*shrug*

Hope you get it working.

When your monitor physically is not able to display 768 dots in a column, you'll have a hard time finding a software hack that makes your monitor display 768 dot-informations with only 600 dots. LCD displays have a fixed resolution, all settings in your OS that differ from this fixed resolution will look ugly or are simply not possible.

After the big update, Illarion will support your screen resolution. So, you don't have to buy a new monitor to play Illarion.
