Quality of clothing being shown when looking at someone

Post by Galim »

hi!

I noticed the following...when I was wearing an excellent dress with my char, aswell as very good boots and an excellent crown, she was still looking just "normal dressed" to others. Reason seems to be the fact that i werent wearing anything on the fields for a cloak, trousers and gloves. I wondered if it would be possible to have any empty field being deactivated and not taking influence on the "seen quality" of the whole outfit. Cause with the current way you HAVE to wear very good gloves, trousers and cloak with a great dress or other outfit if you want to have its quality being recognized. That is a bit unlucky in some situations. Like when going to a festival or a formal dance...you can't cut a figure in your outfit aslong as you dont wear gloves and cloak aswell...and a pair of trousers under a gown ;).

so...just wondered if that can be changed a bit ^.^

I know, it isnt urgent or important at all...but would be still very neat *smiles and waves*

p.s. And no...that char was NOT my dwarf Ghorn :P

It would be nice not to have to wear the trousers under a dress (greaves are better btw)/helmet etc. among other things to look more then shoddy  (this hopefully has already been addressed in the big update)

PS and was that char who I think it was?

Oh I thought you meant Samantha for a minute there >_>

Kl'urk is ftw!

But it's how good the item is, not the quality AFAIK. So like. a perfect shirt and trousers isn't as good as a crap master mage robe.

Although that may be complete bs, so don't trust me on that.

like the idea, but as we try and get all this information in text form, which we have already been told is limited. I see more and more need for paper dolling, as we come up with more things we would like to be able to see. I think that is one of the next big steps this game needs to take, and would greatly improve it IMO. i hope that i will be able to contribute with the actual creation of graphics in the near future.

This is already implemented.

"You see a shabbly dressed man"

"You see an excellently dressed man" ... Or something along those lines.

To further it would just be needless work imo.

Solved.

What Matt means is... The well dressed and shabbily dressed descriptions aren't based on the condition of the clothing. Or, I think that's what he means.

i understand. so its not the quality of the outfit, but the item itself determining the description. you may wear an excellent shirt but it will still be shown as lowlevel outfit, but a shabby magerobe will be shown as noble?

The problem is, not counting the empty slots could result in someone only wearing e.g. an excellent shirt being shown as "noble". If you have a good solution for this problem at hand, please tell us.

what about assigning a range of items of similar type a value.

for instance. a low quality ring of any type is worth 1 point, a high quality ring is worth 2, an enchanted ring is worth 3, and an empty slot is worth 0,

then somethign similar for clothing.
'regular clothes of poor quality worth 1 point, regular clothes of good quality 2 points, high quality clothes of poor wuality perhaps 1.5 and high quality clothes of good value worth 3.

and so forth, then you add up the points and the total determines the 'outfit value' armor could be given a similar rating based on relative cost and condition, but overall be lower than clothing of the same 'grade'

A royal knight decked out in his parade finest would look impressive sure, but a well dressed royal would still look better.

Maybe what could be done is the apperance could be separated into two or more sets:

Wearing very little vs wearing a lot.

Within those sets you could have varying words to describe their clothes based on quality.

If someone is wearing a simple but excellent shirt and pants, they don't look as nice as a noble with excellent robes and crowns and whatnot, but they still look better than someone who simply piles on a bunch of ugly clothes on.

I don't know if the idea is feasible though.
